WHY DID SKODA EVEN BOTHER? CAN ANYONE TELL ME?

Featured Replies

Right Briskies riddle me this then.....

Why the hell don't the side light bulbs work in the new black Monte Style headlights on the 2012 VRS? They are fitted but don't do ANYTHING!!

I get the whole thing about the DRL fogs are on....then turn the switch to sidelights and they dim down thus creating your sidelights....then turn to dipped beam and obviously the headlight comes on in the optical lens unit.

I've been told by two "master technicians" at skoda that they are just "blanks" and do not work, as the DRL's act as your sidelights. but i just think its **** poor to have real bulbs in there when they just don't do anything.

PLUS......on the pre facelift ones they seemed to get it right, although the chrome units looked weak at the side of the black units. They infact are different..... but they work kinda in the same way....DRL's on.... switch to sidelights....they dim....then you switch dipped beams on, they light up in the optical lens as normal, then where the new "blank" sidelights are now, they have your main beam lights! which WORK! is it just me who thinks that skoda should have just stuck to the pre facelift light and done it in black? so everything WORKED?

aannnnnddd the on the MONTE CARLO the sidelights work! When you turn the switch to the sidelights they turn off the drl's and the sidelights come on.

sorry for the rant guys but it just seems pointless.

The dealer is correct regarding the sidelight bulbs in the vRS, the DRL's are also the sidelights so they dim when the lights are switched on. The sidelight bulbs are in the headlights, because the same lights are used across the whole range from the base model upwards. The vRS does not even have the wiring to drive these bulbs. The same headlights are used to reduce costs, it makes no sense to use bespoke headlights in the vRS without the sidelight bulbs as they will be more expensive (supply and demand).

It is also the same the with the Octavia vRS. The sidelights are also in the headlight but non functional as the DRL's again function as sidelights.

Yeah mannyo, I guess your right, was just really annoying when I looked at them and nothing happened haha. I just wish they would've done the pre facelift silver units, just in black, so the dipped and main beam were separate, then it would have eliminated the sidelight from the unit anyway.

Not just the 2012 model. My 2011 has exactly the same thing. Just after I got the car (almost a year ago) I spent an age in the cold trying to figure out where the switch was, even had the wife pressing buttons and switches in the car while I checked for anything!

Suppose it is cheaper and aesthetic just to blank the holes witha dummy bulb. Think there is a thread somewhere where someone has wired them up, but all got too technical for me.
