Octavia vRS

My detailer is applying gtechniq, have used autoglym on all my previous cars, but as mentioned is being messed around by the rep. Had a look around on line and YouTube and the gtechniq looks a good product. Just got to wait for the car now !

  • Can't see that anyone has posted this yet, so though I'd pop it up. New video out today.  I noticed I was the second view.   Have to say, it looks good.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WbzoVrIZ

  • Can you not take this to a new thread. I'm subscribed on here for mkiii vrs updates. Not the age old argument of diesel vs petrol. Christ you'll be slagging off macs and pc's next :(

  • I will never understand those that defend their own car make by slagging other makes off. OK, if you've had a particularly bad experience with a certain car make, tell the story, etc. but don't sugge

have the corrida red ones we have seen in the pics been detailed or should I expect mine to be as shiny on arrival at the dealer?

Tbh I wouldn't take the life shine treatment unless its free

I still wouldnt take it if its free, nothing wrong the products they use, its all about the application, will they remove all the glue residue before application, will they remove any metal fall out before application, will they do a full proper preperation of this before the product is applied?  Also, I believe the warranty is dependent upon you maintaining the car in accordance with the kit and its instructions?

Personally for me I would get a local detailer to do the car when new, for around £200 you will get a better job and it will make the new car thing even better!!!

As for GAP I have taken the dealer one in the past, but only when it is either the same or slightly more expensive than any other options out there.

I'm not sure this is worth it on a brand new car. If the car is written off within the first 12 months, you'll get a brand new car anyway.

Totally agree that if your insurance company will provide a new car if yours is written off in the first twelve months then the GAP insurance is not required for this period. For this reason Which recommends finding an insurer providing GAP who will actually take this into account and defer the start of the policy until year two.

Gtechniq products are in deed very good. Again the key to the products are prep prep prep but when prepped properly they perform very well. I've got it on both mine and will be applying to my parents new Elegance when they get it.

My local detailer is recommending Gtechniq too. I'm planning to drive it straight over to him when I pick it up.

Detailers say that to get the best finish the car should not be washed at all prior to them seeing it.

Like it or not, the guy cleaning the cars at dealerships is not a detailer.  It's water, soap maybe and a quick wash.

By the time you get the car it's already going to have some swirls in the paint from it's dealer wash.

If you care enough to pay for extra protection, don't let the car washer give it a wipe over first.  Get in touch with a reputable detailer.

Also I've never seen these add-on purchases of protection applied 100% by any dealership.

I too went to my dealer today to have a look at one in the flesh for the first time and to be honest I was rather underwhelmed too by their RB vRS estate. It just didn't seem to have the same build quality and feel my Blackline has. On the outside it just looked 'ordinary' maybe some of that was down to the silver alloys (But the mkII vRS looks good with silver neptunes) but IMO it really needs the anthrasite alloys and the black pack. I quite like the look of the normal hatch though so I'm not going to make any lasting decision until I see a vRS  with those alloys in the flesh. Other things I wasn't keen on were the vRS sill covers- on the MkII vRS they cover all of the inner sill , on the MKIII just the top, leaving the outer bottom layer to get scratched to death - what a **** up. The mirrors seem smaller too- think it's because they are angualr they've chopped some of the edges off- another really good idea (not) when there's going to be a spoiler on the back to restrict visability.. The standard sound system was pants compared to the Amundsen, no sat nav as standard on a car over £22k! I thought the seats were a let down too. The dash is obviously angular to copy the external lines but I thought the climate controls looked out of place- as if added as an afterthought by Blue Peter.

My dealer said he could sell my BL for £1k more than I paid for it tomorrow! he also said no one so far had ordered a stock vRS model and it was easy to rack up the cost which is starting to sound like the same game the Germans play! I used the configerator and ended up with a RRP over £25k just to add the back pack, amundsen and leather, oh and there's no cruise either. I accept there's things on the MKIII I don't have for that price tag but my BL was less than £19k and came with 3 years free servicing.

Sorry Skoda but you'll have to up your game if you want me to buy a MKIII vRS. All in all it was a sad experience as I was hoping to get some wow factor

That is a shame to hear your experience.

My Blackline price brand new was £18,200 (including VAT off and £500 VW finance contribution) - equivalent Mark III VRS model including say 5% discount (to same as Blackline spec) £24,240....

Think I need to go and sit down now, am feeling a bit weak.

Have arranged for the dealer not to touch the bodywork, my detailer is going to the dealership will check the bodywork, then carry out the gtechniq treatment. The dealer has been pretty good about it all. The last dealer I purchased a skoda from commented on how long he took ! They told me their guys take around an hour ! Must be a good finish ! ?

I had my vRS done by a detailer when I bought it new 3 years ago.

The dealer (Kings Heath, Brum) were brilliant about it.

The detailer came to see the car 3 days before I picked it up to check panel gaps and paint depths/quality to make sure all was well; then on the Saturday the dealership let him in to totally detail the car from top to bottom.

I made sure they didn't touch the car with anything before my detailer arrived to sort it out.

Makes a hell of a difference.

Iv asked my dealer to leave my car also as i am very much in to detailing and would rather them not touch it before i receive the car. My sales reps reply was "under no circumstance is the car leaving here dirty". Well...if it scratched and the b pillars marked then i wont be having the car :).

I need to speak to the sales manager however as I would really prefer to prep the car myself using the products i know work such as gtechniq, swissvax and carpro.

I'd be saying "It's my car, I'll pick it up in whatever condition I choose!"

I can be a bit anal about being overprotective about my car, don't like parking in super market car parks, or anywhere it might attract door dings. I secretly spend almost every moment in said supermarket/cinema/cafe/restaurant thinking about some family with kids throwing their doors open into my pride and joy.

But you detailers are on another level

It is a bit anal i agree haha, but I'm spending £26,000 so rather have it how i want it haha, ill not tell you how much the wax retails at that I'm putting on it ;).

I would just let them get on with it i'm afraid.

If they are a good dealer and will let a professional detailer do it on thier premisis then all great but if they won't then just let them get on with it.

The problem with accepting a car that is dirty is that you are essentially saying you are happy with the condition of the car because the second you drive it off the forcourt there is nothing to stop a stop chip doing damage.

You might get home to find a big scratch but you will not have a leg to stand on trying to get the dealer to fix it. If you are lucky they might do it out of good will gesture but legally your on your own.

^^^^^ they can still see any chips and large scratches so that wont be a problem as ill check before it leaves anyway

A6 is what I have now. Awesome car!!

Just got beaten to one that I think I'd have bought.

It was a 12 plate A6 2.0 TDI 177 SE, about 6000 miles in a lovely pearl red with about £6 of options including sunroof, technology pack, 19" alloys, BOSE stereo and a few other bits and pieces for under £24k. That was a £37k car when new!

Didn't realise Audi options were that cheap! :giggle:

+1 my thoughts exactly! Each to their own and all but in quite happy for my dealer to prep and wash my cars, saves me having to do it. Also not sure a 25k Skoda warrants that amount of lavishing IMO, no disrespect to anyone here they're a very good car but hardly an object of desire that needs to gleam like a mirror in Buckingham Palace are they. Id probably feel a bit different if i had a car that cost the same as a half decent house though.....

Sorry but a 25k car deserves as much attention as a £500 or £100,000 car if the owners feels that they have worked hard for the money to afford teh car and wants to have an asset that will hold its value better than a similar model of a similar age that hasnt been cared for, my dealer knows I am anal about the condition of my car, he knows its always A1 condition, and that reflects in the PX that is always offered to me, as well as the fact that they never look at my car at any point until they park the car up after its been traded in and paperwork signed etc, it always makes me laugh that people who dont give a toss about there car take it for trade in and when its valued they are surprised as its been 'classes' as poor condition, well if you dont want your car in 'poor' condition get of your arse and give it some love sometimes!

Skoda or not, every car deserves some love!!!

I don't think anyone is saying others on here "don't give a toss about their car", it's just extremes. At one end you have the people throwing fag ends, discarded McDonalds and chip shop wrappers on the back seat and at the other end you have people instructing their dealer to "STEP AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE = YOU MUST BE QUALIFIED TO WASH MY CAR!"  ;)

Somewhere in the middle (not saying I am, I am pretty careful) you have blokes who wash their cars every 4th sunday with a sponge and bucket of warm soapy water.

FWIW, I just got a decent PX on my 3 and a bit year old vRS, you can see it's been looked after, that's all the dealer cares about. He didn't have a magnifying glass out for swirl marks

It's a shame the pictures no longer work, but anyone remember the epic Vauxhall Astra detailing thread? It was amazing/funny/sad http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=81391

He spent months doing that then sold it for a Focus RS. I used to clean my car weekly but now I'm lucky of I do it a handful of times a year. I hose the bird carp off it and any bugs off the windows but that's all. I'd need a few days to get it to a point I'd be happy with it. Once I start cleaning it I can't stop until it's done.

It's not about resale, it's about personal satisfaction IMO.
