Octavia vRS

Yup. I've pretty much ruled out a Mk3 now :(

I sat in an A6 today and loved it. When you can get a nearly new TDI 177 for under £23k, a VRS TDI doesn't have the appeal.

  • Can't see that anyone has posted this yet, so though I'd pop it up. New video out today.  I noticed I was the second view.   Have to say, it looks good.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WbzoVrIZ

  • Can you not take this to a new thread. I'm subscribed on here for mkiii vrs updates. Not the age old argument of diesel vs petrol. Christ you'll be slagging off macs and pc's next :(

  • I will never understand those that defend their own car make by slagging other makes off. OK, if you've had a particularly bad experience with a certain car make, tell the story, etc. but don't sugge

^^^ things like the lack of cruise control I still can't get my head round.

Not in a car with the correct CO2 figure to make it popular with fleets and at the price it is.

The engines are easily the best bit of the Mk3

They are good, in terms of flexibility, running costs and performance.

Hoping the new Yeti gets the upgraded engines and some of the spec like adaptive cruise.

I don't think that will happen. It'll get stop start and the regenerative braking like the Superb FL did but will keep the 140 and 170.

Damn, no "dislike" button. :D

Rather depends what A6 we're talking about. For me an SE spec would just be plain dull and its only going to have adequate go with the 177 TDi lump in it. I would slum it for a Black edition Avant with that engine, 20" wheels, black pack and BOSE surround making up for the lack of go but that lists at nearly 38k OTR....cant see DTD getting the price below 30k on that badboy and as lovely as it is wouldn't pay that for a 4 cylinder diesel A6.

Give it time and you'll be able to get a good spec vRS at reasonable money again, I wont be buying one until there is a bit more of an incentive to do so and I don't think UK sales will be as strong as they expected. IMO anyone specing one out much beyond 25k needs their head reading....its generally much better equipped than the MK2 as standard anyway and does it really need ACC, front assistant, crew protection, Columbus.....I think a TSI manual hatch with just a couple of choice options is all anyone really needs......diesels great particularly if yours doing big miles or using it/sourcing it for work but the petrol really is the sweet spot.

A6 is what I have now. Awesome car!!

annoying as it is not fitting cruise might be for the better (for the private buyer) fit cruise=large fleet sales=less chance of decent deals on new vRS's and poorer residuals. could be the end of an error....

I noticed someone mentioned electric folding mirrors earlier on.  I went to look at the Vrs Estate Diesel and the dealer couldn't tell me whether I could get electric memory seats or not, looking online some stuff seems to suggest you only get it with electric folding mirrors whilst some seem to suggest it's not an option on the VRS but is on some other models.

Does anyone know if they're an option on the VRS estate?  Due to me and swmbo sharing a car this is a must for me, I find the mk1 fabia almost impossible to get a comfortable seating position and as soon as I do she messes it up. :D

Hello All

Had a look at a RB VRS Estate today at my local dealer. After speccing one (220 DSG petrol) in Black with Black pack, sat nav, heated seats etc came to over 26k. With their finance deals, a deposit of 7500k left me with monthly payments of £292 pm this included what dealer suggested I need, GAP insurance (£399) , £299 for car kit (door bumpers, Boot mat, window etching and mud flaps) and about £300 for some paint protection.

prior to looking at a Skoda I was going to go for an Audi A4 s line. What drove me to Skoda was their 0% apr and that for around £3k deposit I could get one for about £257 pm.

Does the deal I got sound good? I'm not sure I really need the GAP, Car Kit and paint protection.

I also noticed that privacy glass is not an option on the new VRS. Dealer said this is not an option but I saw previous threads on this forum of owners adding  this option.

Torn between buying the new VRS if the price is right or a low mileage last years model.

I did enjoy the test drive :) Car felt quite smooth and nippy.

Thanks in Advance

from the dealer....NO

GAP is an interesting one. If your putting down 7.5K you should not be needing it unless it REALLY drops in value....that said it can be got much cheaper else where if you want it for piece of mind.

Car Kit - That sounds like a lof money for those parts. I suspect they will be able to be sourced much cheaper

Paint Protection - 99.9% of the time No, unless they are employing an external professional company. A good question to ask them is how long does it take to do the protection. Anything less than a half day is not possible and half arsed in the real work most will spend a max of 2h often way less and its just possible to do a good job in that time.

I would highly recommend contacting a local Detailer and getting them to do a new car service on it which for £300 will give you a result 10 times better than the dealer will. For a bit more you could also have some very good long lasting protection added.

What are the "door bumpers"? Just rubbing strips? I think the Octavia needs some additional protection on the sides.

Off to look at/drive the Mk3 tomorrow - not doing the miles and need the estate practicality so thinking of swapping the Mk2 TDi for a Mk3 Petrol.

BIL having the Mk2 so no px, and have seen the reputable brokers offering ~2k off the VRS already - it may be mentioned in an earlier post but I'm too lazy to wade through 54 pages - but anyone got a decent discount direct from the dealer yet?

If you are paying cash, the dealer has 14% to play with. If you go with the 0% PCP, they lose 6% of that.

Is that right? I was confusing the figures a bit and thought they lost 8% to the PCP and had only 6% to play with.

Anyone know which way round is right?

No they definitely lose 6%, a few dealers have said this to me.

Agree with the above post regarding cheapness.

Had a look at a petrol Race Blue vRS estate today at my local dealer. I was underwhelmed, in particular by the cheap plastics inside. Lower door, under the new small glovebox, around the new smaller and non-cooled jumbo box.

Ie. the bits you will probably never touch again in the next 5 years of ownership? Perhaps you are right to expect more on a car costing that much, on the other hand I prefer if they concentrate on the bits you do regularly touch, and ensure the car is rattle free e.t.c.

I like the Mk3 Octy RS interior aesthetically.

I do wish they had sorted the 19in wheel option for factory builds though as I think they make the car look a lot better overall and would give people a better first impression.

At the end of the day I think it will sell well. It's a bigger, more powerful, more economical car with more modern technology than the Mk2 RS. Doubt the Mk2 was available quite as cheap as the run-out models from launch either.

Placed my order today

TSI DSG Hatch

Race Blue

Sunset glass

Cruise Control

Park Assist

Autoglym lifeshine thrown in for free

GAP insurance thrown in for 199 (didn't mind paying a little extra than I can get from a 3rd party)

£25,250 on PCP

Dealer says I might get it in December but early part of January is more likely, first hatch they've ordered too

GAP insurance definitely not from the dealer. Look around as you should be easily able to get this for at least 50% less. Take a look at the Which web site on this subject. There are a number of hints on what to look for and the type of GAP insurance available. As my new car is going to be on finance I am thinking of taking this out for the first time.

Paint protection, probably a good idea but not at £300. I checked with a local detailing firm who are authorised to do Autoglym which is what my dealer will do. The detailer offered to do this for £200 just on enquiry. Rightly or wrongly the dealer has matched this price so I have agreed to let them do it.

Car kit, not entirely sure what door bumpers are so can't comment on these, window etching is possibly a bit out of date (my opinion) mud flaps are £50 for the pair from Skoda (note it already has front mudflats as standard) and either £60 for the rubber boot mat (Skoda accessory) or £75 for the reversible boot floor that you can spec when placing your order.

Sunset glass from the B pillar back is either a £150 or £140 (sorry can recall without looking it up) option that can be speced at time of ordering.

Hope that helps :)

The only thing you have to be a bit careful of at the moment with the autoglym lifeshine treatment is that a lot of the independent detailers/valeters have recently (april i think) had their authorisation from autoglym removed. So they might still have the kits to apply but can't register the warranty. Worth checking cos a lot of guys still advertise on their websites who aren't registered now. I'm sure most independents do a far superior job to most dealerships, but if you want the warranty....

Matts right - Autoglym are really messing around the independents at the moment and a lot of people are very frustrated by them. All they are doing is driving them to other (arguably) better products now. That said the warranty you get with these products is virtually worthless.

The reason the dealer will match the £200 is they will still make a good chunk of money on that, <£50 for the kit and <2h to apply I bet. I would still go the independent route as the dealer will not spend enough time prepping the car and with these sorts of treatments prep-work is everything. Screw that up and the protection will be gone before you know it

What of protection are we talking about here? UV protection?

not just UV protection but also stuff like protecting against things like bird poo damaging the paint etc. Alloys being protected from brake dust.  It will also help keep the car cleaner and make it easier to clean.

Tbh I wouldn't take the life shine treatment unless its free

I'm not sure this is worth it on a brand new car. If the car is written off within the first 12 months, you'll get a brand new car anyway.

As for the paint protection, I'd go with a local detailer too. Even if they apply it properly, they won't prepare the paintwork properly first.
