Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Still a couple of unregistered Seat Exio STs knocking around fairly cheap. About as spacious as the Leon ST I should expect but a way off the Octavia' size in the rear seats.

  • Can't see that anyone has posted this yet, so though I'd pop it up. New video out today.  I noticed I was the second view.   Have to say, it looks good.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WbzoVrIZ

  • Can you not take this to a new thread. I'm subscribed on here for mkiii vrs updates. Not the age old argument of diesel vs petrol. Christ you'll be slagging off macs and pc's next :(

  • I will never understand those that defend their own car make by slagging other makes off. OK, if you've had a particularly bad experience with a certain car make, tell the story, etc. but don't sugge

I agree some of it is class creep of course. But a big part of this readjustment (in terms of price - regardless of size) will be if, and I say if, Škoda does kill the Superb as a car and replace it with an SUV. Which, in the current climate of big non German cars not selling at all (look how Passat and Accord type car sales have fallen off a cliff) and in contrast how SUVs are selling like hot cakes, is exactly what I'd do if I was running Škoda.

If Land Rover can ask a premium for something as small and dinky as the Evoque then Škoda can ask a premium for something as "small" as the Octy III in the Superb segment. Or offer something bigger than a Golf in the Golf class. See my reasoning?

All I'm getting at is that the Octy III will have to stradle both the Golf and Superb segments in future and thus its value for money in either segment will be viewed differently vs a Golf, Leon OR Passat.

Except skoda doesn't have the brand cachet to pull that off, whereas JLR does. VAG already has premium soft roaders in its product range, why offer a cheap version when the market is driven by premium exclusivity.

The D class saloon market has indeed almost vanished, so I'd make a vrs coupe and maybe some 4x4 options although the new Leon will probably take the cheaper S3 got hatch mantle. Personally as a customer, I'd be interested, that or a big capacity diesel Superb estate.

Which would be fine if Skoda were seen as a premium brand, but they aren't.

One may argue they are the very opposite as budget brand with good value which makes it a completely different proposition to bring out a premium product.

I'm well aware of that.  What I meant was that the Octy will be SMALLER than the other cars in the Superb class...  Hence it will APPEAR to cost a premium.  I never implied that Škoda could be a "premium brand".

Except vRS diesel is not cheaper than Leon FR 184 TDI. It's nearly a grand more expensive. And so is just about every extra option.

I've no idea if it is or no, just reporting what the magazine said

I think you're right if I've understood you correctly, the Octavia (which is essentially VAG's utilitarian "Tesco Value" brand) is now wearing a posher frock for which you've got to pay somewhat more for. Some will be willing to do that out of historical brand loyalty, others perhaps not. Taking all of VAG's brands upmarket is the obvious direction, but doesn't hapen overnight, and takes several generations of model to successfully turn it around. Personally I just don't see the Octavia as the leading VFM proposition that it once was because of this brand/price shift, but then I really want an Alfa so what do I know :)

So, after 57 pages, have we actually concluded anything ?

I have.

Nice car, petrol is better.

Only colours that won't be common are left field choices, like yellow, green and primer.

Spec too tight at the price, would buy something else personally.

I also believe it won't hold it's money that well, it's an Octy so going to be quite common. £15k drop in 3 years on list or more?

Perfectly summarised I'd say Richard.

I think Richard hit the nail on the head. The more I think about it the more I think I should keep the mk2.

Ok the mk3 is a better car but it's not as good as what the mk2 was.

Skoda have been working on a project rumored to be called 'Snowman' which is supposedly something along the lines of a 7 seat Yeti -whether anything will actually come to fruition is another matter.

Bit OT but it sounds as if the concept will be at Geneva March 2014 and debut early 2015. This may be the replacement for the Superb as has been rumoured (current one treading on Passat's toes too much?)

If this happens, it won't be because its taking sales away from the Passat. It will simply be because they think they can sell more cars if they have a large SUV in the range instead of a traditional shaped car.

Every new vRS I've seen at various different dealers has the non-standard silver 18" alloys on them. I thought the standard wheels were the anthracite ones?

I was told the first cars would come with Pictoris Alloys (the old style) as the new ones (Gemini) are just going into production. Not sure when the switch over will be. Hope to have the anthracite Geminis on my hatch in Jan though!

There are a number of cars already for sale on the Suchen.mobile.de website with Geminis, and at least one with 19" wheels so at least in Germany those wheels seem to be available.

.

Plus, you want to see this: Enjoy!

LOL

Did anyone notice how much petrol it used for 27 kms   :whew:

Better car, worse value. (IMO)

Considering a lot of people bought on VAT free, what's the cost difference?

25% ?

I'd keep the mk2 and enjoy relatively low depreciation, by comparison to upgrading to a new car (£££) that will lose more faster.

I think I will....I did have a itching to go petrol but dealers aren't interested in offering much on mine (two offers so far I walked out laughing).

Shame as it's nice and I'm sure if it wasn't as much it would have impressed me more.

Just got this through from Skoda in my email... damn!! yellow looks good! :D

That suspension is lowered

they should have put the DRL's where the foglights are :(

See I think the DRL looks best how it is on the mkIII

Leon that does look great. Kicking urself now I'd say :)

The drls look way better on the mkll.
