Picked the Monte up this afternoon and it has been fitted with 4 new Pirelli tyres and had an alignment and it drives strait as a die! I have had a loan car for the 16 days it has been in the dealers

If it was new Jan 2012 they would not have serviced it in september. They might have changed the oil. So now the car is 12 months old or 10000 miles it is telling you it needs servicing as they would not have reset the computer

My VRS had a slight pull to the left... I reported it to the garage who swapped the wheels front to back which instantly fixed the issue, unfortunately I have an annoying drone now so I'm presuming I have a buckled rim??

Your tyres are more than likely stepped. does it on all vag cars. something to do with the suspension set up. find it on mk6 golfs and CCs and normal passats all the time. if you read the manual for the passats it usually tells you to swap the wheels back to front like every so often to stop the stepping being as bad. too proud to admit that they messed up lol.

Well if they haven't actually serviced my car then they will defo have something to answer for as they told me i do not need another service until sept 2013, i set up a service plan for then and everything.

It being serviced was one of the conditions of me buying the car as the fiat 500 that had been traded in has been serviced and taxed the month prior to me selling it to them :)

I'll update and inform you :)

Hi Vickey.

Have you had any results re, the pull to the left?

Today I took my Monte 1.6 tdi back into dealers to have them look at the car.

First they tell me its an alignment problem & would be sorted.

They had the car all day and when collected the problem still there.

Asked me to bring the car back and they will swap a set of wheels with a new car & re test.

This looks very much like an old tale.

10 miles to dealer in 2 cars, drop off & come home.

Back to dealer, pick up car & come home.

Total miles 60.

Plus an hour each time.

Not going to be so next time as I will ask for a loan car.

So I will keep you all posted.

Hi CD,

I had my wheels realigned and the pull was much better.

Although the problem is significantly still there, I have admitted defeat now.

It was causing me too much stress and amongst a messy break up and working a 52 hour week it was all making me pretty poorly.

Please keep me updated on how it goes!!

Just put my standard wheels back on after the winter 15" 195 tyres, and the pull to left is back, it's not too bad but noticeable after the very neutral behaviour of the winters. It just seems VERY camber sensitive, the standard Dunlops will be swaped soon so hoping for better behaviour from another make of tyre, any suggestions welcome .

Update on this thread Car Pulling to the Left.

Car went back into dealers for 2 days.

They have swapped wheels with another new car.

Re realigned on Laser.

Still the same.

They have contacted Skoda re this issue.

Now waiting on Skoda's reply and what to do next.

When I had words with the dealer, I expressed my concerns about the problem and stated that if this cannot be resolved soon I will require a replacement car.

He seemed to agree over the phone, but will wait to see if this actually happens in real life.

I recently had a rear axle replaced on my VRS for the same issue.

The garage were completely denying there was a problem to begin with but I eventually got them to talk to skoda enough times that eventually someone listened. Turns out somebody else had been having the same issue.

It's better than it was but I don't think it is perfect.

Had ours looked at today; agreed something is not right and tried moving wheels and tyres around, only to make it worse. Going back in for a full alinement shortly; ran out of time today.

I'm getting the feeling its not an alignment problem.

Some thing else is causing this.

Time to think out of the box.

Could be that the steering rack and s/ shaft needs centralising and checking.

Modern cars should just not do this.

I look at it as a very minor irritation with what is otherwise an excellent car, which only really becomes anything more on a long run, as your right arm starts to feel tired from subconsciously keeping the wheel weighted to the right.

Noticed with ours, that the steering wheel likes to 'centralise' itself left hand down and if you find a nice long gentle sweeping curve to the left, then the car drives as if it was on a neutral camber in a straight line, with the wheel in that slightly off position.

Oh and we have run the car on 195/55 R15 winters, which slightly reduced the left pull tendency; to be expected I suppose with the narrower tyres.

I'm fairly convinced it's something not quite straight with the car; whether that be wheels, steering, sub frame, engine or maybe even the chassis, who knows but whatever it is, was built into the car on the production line and the factory rigs did not pick it up. Had a very similar issue with a Spitfire while I was in the Air Force; came to the same conclusion that there was a very slight almost undetectable twist in the airframe.

Anyway will await the outcome of the alignment checks and hopefully they can dial it out somehow, oh and get rid of the intermittent wheel wobble at 60 they have left the car with :wonder:

TP

When all is correct and checked, then look at the tyres.

http://www.wheels-in...p?showtopic=165

Just had a look at our factory fit tyres and found all the lines that are still visible between the tread blocks, are roughly in the same place on all four tyres but on the offside edge not the nearside bar a fairly broad white line. so if I understand the article correctly, if anything the car tyres should pull her right not left :wonder:

TP

Mine does the same thought it was just a safety feature just incase you fall asleep :/ should I get it looked at ?

  • 2 weeks later...

After a couple of long runs lately the pull to the left is now a problem.

Of such I am not prepared to live with it.

The 3rd attempt to rectify this is due next week.

Each time I have booked it in with another 3/4 weeks lead time and it is getting frustrating.

So next Wednesday is the last time before I reject the car.

I will keep you posted.

By the way, Skoda's response to dealer was to make sure your wheel alignment machine is calibrated correctly.

Change wheels with another new car....that does not pull to the left.

Reassuring?

YES Sam.

Just had ours in with the dealer in Lincoln again, following running out of time on the last visit (my late arrival).

Rebalanced the front wheels for a second time and carried out a full aliment check, which revealed that the factory hadn't set her up properly.

Car still pulls left a little but more through following the road camber and the steering wheel no longer automatically 'turns left' if you move your hands slightly off the wheel. They have also got rid of the wheel wobble which they introduced with the first wheel rebalance.

This pulling to the left thingy has been discussed before. I posted along with others well over 12 months ago as mine has always had a tendency to do that. It's something you learn to live with. I've had wheel alignments front and 4 wheel and I put 2 new Avons on the front but it still has just a tendency on occasions to want to drift left. it is more of a drift than a pull. I haven't picked up my new (to me) Fabia yet but on the test drive I never noticed it but it will be interesting to compare and see if this also follows the trait.

Quote " It's something you learn to live with" You might I don't. Its a Fault. Should not be there.

I have never had a new car that pulls...full stop.

This on my car is a Pull.

On the last long journey my shoulder started to ach.

Even the tech guy in the dealership agreed its not right.

In yesterday (Wednesday) for 3 days to rectify once & for all.

I had a phone call to tell me, they have re checked the alignment. 3rd time... &

Skoda says now change the tyres. So they are waiting on 4 tyres. Crazy.

I'm beginning to believe that changing tyres, going for several alignments wont change a thing. Something else is the problem. I live in Greece where my fabia is left-hand drive and the moment I got the car brand new from the dealers, the car was pulling to the right, the exact opposite!!! Went back the next day for an alignment, a bit better but still the car was pulling to the right, also went after a period of time elswhere for an alignment and still the proplem persists. Has anyone checked their steering rack, as mentioned by Carlo diesel?

p.s. I'm on 195/55/15 wheels from factory.

The front subframe, wishbones etc. are different between your new and current Fabia's. The majority of the pre FL Fabia II's used the same set-up as the Mk1, late production and the FL use the present Polo set-up.

As a side note our previous 2010 Elegance had no tendency to go left, nor does my lads 59 plate HTP but the Monte does (less so after tracking). Believe this strange left pull also afflicted the Mk1; some would drive straight others not. Also come across it in Fords.

Update Friday 24th.

I'm off to the dealers now to collect my car. They say it is now corrected.

They changed wheels again with another car.

They re re re aligned the alignment.

Skoda said this will correct the problem. It didn't.

So Skoda told them to fit new Pirelli tyres.

The dealer now says they are confident this has cured the problem.

We will see in 1 hours time.

I was generalising with my comment, I don't mean to imply you don't know a 'drift' from a 'pull'. I was merely inferring that some Fabias do drift to the left as can be seen from the number of previous posts. It does seem that you have a specific and genuine problem with yours and I do hope you get it sorted. The 'drift I refer to on mine is so slight I was happy to go for another Fabia, however Plumbers reassuring comments regarding the different front suspension set up on the newer cars means I may be lucky and not encounter the problem when I take delivery of mine. Do let us know how you get on and I wish you the very best of luck and that the adjustments the dealer has made does the trick.

horkin.

Hi. No probs my friend.

Yes it was a pronounced pull.

But all's well now...I hope. We will see when I get chance to test it properly on a journey.

After 4 re alignments and now a new set of Pirelli tyres.

The dealers, Barnstaple Skoda, have been fantastic.

They even reset the door locking modes to lock when pulling away and unlock with the key removal. Nice touch.

Even valeted the car.

Will ring them next week to report my findings.

So glad it seems to be sorted and to hear of yet another good experience with Skoda dealer. The function you have had added where the doors lock at about 5-10mph is nice to have. I have it on my HTP and will have it enabled on my Tsi when I get it. Looking forward to you reporting all problems solved mate. Best wishes.
