How Fast are Briskoda #3 - 1st June

Featured Replies

There are some comedy posts in here. The amount of thought being put into a simple trackday, especially one like this where time on track is at a premium compared to an OPL full day is hilarious!!!

Just turn up with some uprated brake fluid and drive the car!!! then when you find things you didnt like about the stock setup, look at ways of making it better.

I cant wait to read the write up after the event, its going to be like an F1 debrief!!

War and Peace springs to mind :)

  • Right, after my annoyance at the organisers' letting us out at Combe, and wishing to at least have a truly 100% brisky session along with a smidge of tracktime desire, I'm up for this. Won't be a work

  • We've had the practice times, we've had the hot lap times, now we have possibly the most important table of all (for obvious reasons), the improvement between practice and hot lap times 01. +5.317 -

To get the best performance out of the brake fluid preferably it needs to be new and should be either a DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 fluid (SAE J1703 or J1704). Use racing fluid if you want but you will be paying for that privelege and may not actually reap the benefits unless you are continually doing a lot of high speed stopping.

One thing everyone should bear in mind, and not just for a trackday is that brake fluid does naturally degrade through the absorption of moisture. When moisture is absorbed by the fluid it has the affect of reducing its boiling point, therefore the amount of energy it can absorb before it starts to vaporise and thus give rise to spongy brakes (note on any spec sheet for brake fluid it will quote both the dry and wet boiling points in recognition of this fact). This is why changing the brake fluid is part of the scheduled maintenance programme. The specs have been designed to reflect the typical uptake of water over a two year period of use and hence is what the wet boiling point is equivalent too, which is almost a 100 deg C drop in boiling point for the fluid when new. Still want to put off that fluid change?

RBF600 for me. :) Have some to go in mine when the new brake kit arrives and gets fitted. Still not showed up yet. :(

What anchors are you fitting in?

Halfords finest dot 5 for me, never lets me down :D

I just got some ATE Super racing fluid. It's Dot 4 but interestingly is blue, so good for knowing when you've fully flushed the old fluid out :D

Does it cost to just come and watch? I don't think my new car would do much good :p

Specators are not encouraged by MSV.

There is no viewing area and you have to stand in the pits.

But you do get the odd passenger go in with one of the registered cars and take pictures from the pit wall.

I think even this has a £10 charge against it...

Is your car Ford StreetKa?

I was actually thinking if there's any dye I could add to my Gulf RF1000 for that exact purpose?
