Why would boy racers want an Annie Oakley sticker? Wouldn't a Wild Bill Hickock one be more appropriate? Or is this a generation gap problem? rolleyes.gif

Misguided sarcasm, there. Bloody HELL, I'm bored. Won't one of you ring me to moan about something???

I want an on-board MP3 too, all my tunes sound like cack in my car's stereo.

But then it could be because all my current car tunes are by Good Charlotte etc., thanks to my daughter. Ick.

Is there a secret password we can use so that we know who we are speaking to? :D

Good Charlotte- the latest lot of lads with sticky-up hair and eyeliner out of suburban America. They're actually not bad, seeing as she gave me the choice between them and Busted...

Sorry but am a bit too knackered to indulge in those kind of shenanigans... plus the money never gets to the girl on the phone you know.

Don't ask me how I know that, please. I just seem to.

Hmm so I take it that nitrous is not a good thing from a warranty point of view :(

Are they going to frown on my water injection system then? 'Tis good for the engine, honest. What about the flowing and porting of the head? :D

Damn, so many mods, so little time and so little warranty cover :(

Niki, thanks for asking about the NoS, now what other mods can I think of that will induce apoplexy and consternation amongst Skoda Technical? :D

Fair nuff lads, but the response to 'Why don't we authorise 1 or 2 companies to do the chipping?' was 'BUT THAT WOULDN'T BE FAIR!'

Ah, there you are, the official proof - Skoda UK are still living in the pre-VAG days of socialism. :D

And how is it unfair to the competition anyway that you will charge £750-1000 for an "official" modification while they are allowed to undercut your price by almost half? ;)

Must be the only part of the UK that is, then (apart from a few honourable exceptions..). We certainly haven't seen much Socialism from the current occupier of No. 10 :(

:soapbox: New Labour == Old Tory (Hell! even Harold Macmillan would have been to the left of Tony Blair!)

I still don't understand how the other countries can do "Official" upgrades -- they sell identical cars from the same factory - presumably using the same warranty -- so what is different for the UK ?

Do the other countries have to under-rite these upgrades themselves or is it done through normal warranty channels ??

And whats not fair -- anyone trying to get a franchise or a loan or a job -- has to meet certain criterea -- if you do great - game on -- if you dont that's it -- normal life -- those that want to will.

I havn't won the lottery yet -- that's not fair either -- doesnt stop me playing every week(although £2 a ticket might)

A serious question....those of us who have modified there cars whilst still under warranty..does this totaly knacker our warranty -- or would it be just item's directly effected by said modifications.

i.e -- doorlock goes pete tong -- sorry you have it chipped - not covered ??

Just wondered

AFAIK, the importer takes over the 2-year factory warranty (and doesn't add to it, in Holland's case, but that's another point), with a deal made with the (German) tuning company that they are responsible for damages. The tuning company will take out an insurance for this. The premium is paid for by the profits made by (almost) doubling the price of a non-warranty upgrade. These profits are cut between the importer, the tuning company and the dealer responsible for the sale and local install.

Hence the importer's willingness to introduce official upgrades - no risk, mo' money, USP against competing brands. Hence the tuning company's eagerness to be authorized - insurance to cover the risk, access to full-size foreign distribution network through highly visible brand dealers (instead of some backyard tech supplier). Hence the dealers' aggressive sales tactics - for same reason as importer's.

Now spot the downsides, please... :D

Good Charlotte - at least you get the impression they do it out of enjoyment, instead of the boyband culture that busted are close to displaying!

(Disney Rock.... Offspring Junior.. :D)

My daughters are split, one is a rock fan, one is a dance fan, I'm not too fussy.

That's about the size of it, yes. You modded the car when we expressly advise you not to, you pay the consequences. You go ahead and modify, you have no warranty.

That said there's always us lot here to fight your corner in situations like this, and we do try our best against the Mighty Corporation.

And yes, other Skoda Europe companies do underwrite the cost of agreeing mods; we in the UK don't because we've heard too many horror stories.

Hey - Offspring are a *great* band, got all their albums and seen them live....

It's just in my house Busted have aquired the nickname "offspring junior" as in a teenage \ wannabe version of the above.

LL, or Niki, or "enemy within" (just kidding! :D)...

Thats ludicrous as you know! I've fitted an alientech window controller - this allows me to open and close my windows using the remote - I know fully well that if my windows start doing strange things I'll investigate that first \ remove if needs be before sending to the dealer.

It would hardly be fair to turn up at a dealer saying "I changed part X and now part X is giving me problems......

However, in no way does that controller can that controller be blamed for, say, a DV failure, so I expect those parts that are stock to still be covered if not affected by the remap.

But that's not how Skoda see it Ian- if you fitted a chip, you messed with the control system of the car... it's brain, if you like. Therefore you ignored our advice, so we have discharged our responsibility to you. It sucks the Devil's big fat one, sure, but *that* as I say is why *we* are here to argue with Warranty.

Who for the record are miserable ******s incapable of normal human conversation.
