  • It's taken me a week to read this thread after my own Superb purchase! I can only say how gutted I am you sold Audrey! It was like a soap opera I didn't want to end. What am I going to do tomorrow?!

  • That's one hell of an aerial on the back there!...

  • It's not an aerial; it's the pole that makes contact with the ceiling grid.

Had the wheels off the new car for the 1st time yesterday to change to winter's (Good job I did, couple of inches of the white stuff here today!) - 4 feet of scaffold pole was required to get the bolts out!

Couldn't imagine getting them off at the road side!

Would suggest anyone with a new car (2nd hand or new) to try their bolts or nuts (oo'er) at home, to make sure you can get them off with what you have in the car!

(ps - I'm a 29 year old, and consider myself to be fit and strong!)

Lol Al

I couldnt get my flat off (nor my burly neighbour).

Hence looking for a long wheel brace wrench!

And got a torque wrench since considering swopping summer and winter tyres each year too.

U got one?

Quick 2bucket wash this morning:

But does yours waterlogged like my Audrey (fuel cap)?

These seals ok?

This waterlog under the 2nd pic seal above:

Water at the filler cap is common.

Other image suggests you have a drain blocked - Mk1 Superbs shared a problem like that with Passats - get it cleared pronto!

Also, Chan - don't be tempted to use your torque wrench as a wheel brace - seen a lot of guys use a torque wrench like it was an 18" breaker bar (an 18" arm with a swivel at one end for 1/2" drive sockets)

Use it strictly for torqueing up the wheel bolts to the prescribed setting.

PS - glad to know you think enough of the car to give it a two - bucket wash. I snow foamed all three of our cars yesterday, jetted all the dirt off, then washed them - you would still be amazed by the amount of dirt and grit in the bottom of the rinse bucket! (also noted that it takes me as long to do the wheels as it does to do the car body!)

Eeeek!

That dosent sound good! Yikes!

How do I clear the blockage?!!!

Eeeek!

Need to look around to see where it is. Often, a rubber grommet with a flap will allow water from the scuttle area under the windscreen to drain down to the road. These often get blocked with leaves, and need someting prodded down them to clear the blockage.

Sorry I can't be more precise - haven't seen any build up of water on mine (apart from around the filler after washing)

Cheers KSR

I ll have a prod around sometime to see if i can find source of blockage.

Yep!

Been warned abt tht torque wrench.

Hence looking for a separate loooooong wheel brace wrench now :-)

Thks for the reminder.

2bucket wash and detailing cars is still quite new to me.

But amazing results from eye-opening research abt how to clean cars.

Most obvious is the NOT TO USE SPONGE rule!

Anyone know wot this threaded hole is for?

don't think there is a problem, mine makes a noise not a rubbing sound but like a very quiet electric motor and only lasts for about 3 seconds after turning the ignition off

Racing boy.

Hmmm i think mines more of a mechnical rubbing noise.

But maybe i am wrong.

Can u not work out from video tht pic i posted link to?

well wouldn't go to the dealer about, not a major issue and all superbs make the noise anyways and with the miles yours has done compared to mine it's maybe just wear and tear, my car has got 4,600 miles on it and don't know if my binnacle is just quieter, but don't worry about it

Excellent sheepskin pads - best thing I've ever used for washing cars.

Re sockets - you'll need one for the torque wrench anyway. Probably make sense to buy impact one - 17mm
