Combi electric boot closing operation

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if you can change the settings of the buttons to close as well as open the tailgate?

Its great being able to open the boot from the drivers seat for the kids to get their kit out of the car when dropping them off but they are to short to be able to press the button on the tailgate to close the boot and the button next to the gear stick only appears to opens the boot so i still have to get out run to the back to press the button to close the electric boot defeating the purpose of the electric tailgate.

Can the key fob also be reprogrammed to close the boot so after you carried everything in to the house you don't have to run back out to the road to press the button on the tailgate.

Have i missed some thing in the manual or is the only way to close the boot via the button on the tailgate not able to close via the key fob or button by gear stick?

hi

all you can change is the hight the boot opens by stopping the tailgate at a certain hight and then pressing and holding the close button for 3 seconds.page 40 in the manual. at least the lads will be able to reach the button then.

Hi

Can i easily connect 2 new wires behind the tailgate switch on the boot and route them through the inside of the tailgate, through the car up to the gear stick, buy another electric boot switch to install in one of the blank position's and therefore have the closing working like a two gang light switch on your landing stairs at home so i can close the tailgate or from either the drivers seat or at the boot?

Will then have two separate buttons next to the gear stick that will have the same symbol on but one will close and the other open.

Will this work or cause any problems with the cambus system?

Anyone think this will work and how would i wire off of the back of the boot button so both buttons work?

That is possible, the other solution is to fit the kufatec module, it is £119, but will offer a much better solution - you can close it off the remote and off the current button, so no loom to run, less trim to disturb and no extra button to install.

Hi

Have you fitted the Kufatec unit? Where does it fit into the car and does anything need to be reprogrammed before i start looking on web for any video on how to fit?

I know nothing about vcds!! does this need to be done after installing, also where can i find out about what and how vcd works? Is it just a cable that connects to my laptop with software! Can i do much damage if i do something wrong. Is there an undo button

I do not have the unit no, TBH in the last 25 months I would of only used it once anyway, plus it wouldn’t close the luggage cover either.

Kufatec are normally very secretive with their installation guides… they only let you see them once you have purchased the hardware from them.

Yes VCDS is basically that, it is possible to do damage with VCDS…. but it is unlikely if you 1st save a scan of the car (this also saves all the codes on the car) and do your homework before you change anything, there are a couple of controllers that can only be coded one way (there is a speed limit that can only be LOWERED!) but with the correct precautions taken it is pretty safe.

A brief insight into VCDS

Thanks for the link will start reading.

Looking at buying a VCDS cable, but there are loads on ebay do you or anyone else have a link for any recommended cables for 2012 combi model?

Then can turn off those tailgate bleeps will be my first test!!!!

And look at fitting a second button for closing tailgate from inside which should be the cheapest option as will only need a second tailgate button and some cable

Many thanks

Yes, buy the original cable from Ross-Tech. They use your money to develop the software VCDS, give you support and updates of the software.

No you need a CANBUS interface, why not find someone local to you with VCDS to do the coding you require?

(there is a list and map of VCDS owners in my signature)

Looks like someone deleted my post! Buy a copy-cable from China, untill you know if you´re gonna use it or not. The original costs 25-30 (!!) times more, than a copy with the only difference, that the "copy" cannot be updated. I spend my cable 1-3 times a year, so for me it is to expensive by choice, to buy the original.

In fairness, you might as well put up a poster for counterfeit watches, fake jeans and copy music. If a company spends money developing a product and building up IP, they deserve to have their rights respected rather than promoting some counterfeit knock-off from China.

The "only difference", as you say, is one is a genuine original, the other is from a company who have stolen the design.

Gizomo68 can you program the button next to the gearstick to self close? or will the vcds only do self close from the keyfob?

Anyone in the south west got vcds? or do i need to buy vcds and do myself?

Yes I can close the tailgate from both the remote and centre console button.

Great information.

Want to sort out the coding on tailgate but from the list of VCDS owners none with in an hours drive.

Alternatives, do you or anybody know if a Skoda dealers do coding changes?

If i buy a cable to do myself are there any members who have done a utube video showing how to install the software and do the tailgate coding change? Not interested in doing faults or scans just changing codes but do not want to cause any damage. Just want to turn off bongs and do self closing but would like to see a video clip first if possible.

Not seen any video’s but it really is simple to do (but ALWAYS save a scan of the car before doing ANY changes, this will store all the factory codes… just in case)

You may drop lucky with Škoda…. but I doubt it very much, the std reply is normally “sorry that cannot be done”

What is your location?

Location between bristol & Gloucestershire

Thinking about doing it myself but could do with some simply tips in very basic format to get me started if i order a cable.

Like how to install.

How to do first scan and save.

Step by step guide from turning on VCDS right through from first scan to changing tailgate self closing would be really helpful and may be give me some idea of the input required!!!!!

What else have you changed that you think is a benefit?

Can see tailgate self closing.

Tailgate bongs off.

Emergency brake hazards

Front fogs come home.

Can you change the settings to fold in the mirrors whilst driving? Only seem to fold in when stopped where other cars i have had can be closed when driving in heavy traffic when you can see an on coming car about to hit your mirror

You can fold the mirrors up to 15 kmph. I've not seen anything in VCDS that this can be overridden, but I'm still finding new areas within the Superb modules.

My original post explains the coding step by step. For your first scan, just use the 'auto scan' button and save the results.

Leave well alone mate. The official suppliers are on the ross tech website. If you go anywhere else its knock off - its not worth the risk to yr pride and joy to save a couple of hundred quid. Plenty on here will help with genuine cables if you cant stretch to a genuine cable yourself. There is a list of owners on the map in the diagnostic and vcds folder.

Cheers

Adam

I have a genuine Ross-tech cable and wouldn't purchase a fake. The team at Ross-tech are fantastic, respond to queries and are active on many forums. They do great work, help me save lots of money by DIY-ing and I want to support them as much as possible.
