I'm gradually loosing faith in Skoda

Featured Replies

Love that Steve ----- No dashes, no numbers. The Original. Accept no imitations.... :giggle:

Numbers I can put up with - putting a dash immediately after the username is a bit much for me :)

bluevrs2- looks quite similar to yours doesn't it, and could be easily confused.....

Just choose another properly unique one - maybe if they'd done some proper research they'd have seen the original account was very much active :p

Anyway, rant over. Back on topic :)

  • Quite surprised to hear that they only clean them. Think i may just change mine after its first service as well. I cant stand having wee nagging doubts in my mind that a dirty air filter is in some wa

  • It's a 40,000 mile service item. Years ago probably pre-Octavia times, they were done a 20,000 miles, but when Skoda started doing free servicing deals they changed to 40,000 miles and it's been like

  • Depends how much pointless maintenance you like doing I suppose. What will you gain? Nothing.

I'm aware of the fact that filters have developed over the years

I would rather have it changed after 2 rather than 6 years.

Thats why I have ordered a new one

In fact Chris, I've completely dodged this entire issue - dealer or independent it doesn't matter to me as I've got a Pipercross filter in mine. I just hoover it and the airbox every 3-6 months :)

I'd agree though on your point; they're still using paper filters, the design has not changed in a decade. For the money and clear filtration benefits of a fresh filter, fit one at each service. Even if that's not admitted to in the Skoda service schedules, probably to keep fleet managers happy and overall running costs down (blinkered view IMO) there's absolutely nothing wrong in going above and beyond the replacement schedule :)

New filter arrived today fro Eurocarparts

When i get the car back from the dealer I'll be fitting it

Pictures of the old one all being well...after 3 years (24300 miles)

Good stuff Chris. Get the vac out while you're there, see if any debris has collected in the airbox

Someone mentioned on this forum abt a plastic or metal tray inside the air box...

Chris - u leaving the tray in there or removing it ?

DMK didn't change my fuel filter in 60k miles and 4 variable services (all done each year - Splitting the difference between the fixed/variable debates).

It went to an independant VW specialist in Leeds last week for a full service where it was changed along with all the other filters. And they spotted a problem that they estimate DMK had missed on 2 services.

If you want your car to last, don't rely on dealer servicing. The whole newtork is set up for cars to last 3 years/ 60K miles. In which case 1 filter will do.

My faith in Skoda is good but as my sig line states...

That DMK link lists 2 prices for a major service, £ 249 and £ 199

Can you tell me which Indy you used as I'm in Leeds and would like to avoid DM Keith when the time comes. Cheers.

It could be an idea to weigh each filter to get a more objective assessment of its condition.

Ive never looked in Chan...I assume I undo the screws and pull off the cover..Then pull out the filter..I know nothing of a 'tray'

@ Fordfan: Then weighed the Old v New...Old filter (same make) 27g heavier

Skoda were expecting me to go another 3 years before changing it...What a joke!!

Wow - now i thought my air filter was bad Chris (pics on the R36forum) - but jeez!!!!

Holy smoke!

To tell customers that this filter can go another 3 years without replacement is totally rediculous!!

For £12 and 5 mins work...!!!

See, what did we tell you?

Youre not wrong Steve

It's just a really daft shift in procedure, one which has never been properly explained!

The tray that Chan 110 is referring to, is visible in the last picture, it's a louvred panel that sits under the filter.

Wonder when mine was changed... Car is 7 years old now :)

Though I actually prefer to take my car to my Skoda dealer. I took it to a back street garage for new pads once - Man was that a mistake. In the end needed up having new brakes again, new disks, and a new caliper ~£400.

Bad times.

Oh ok....The louvres are there for air swirl, not for looks I would expect. Therefore removing them could alter the air flow into the engine and adversly affect performance rather than an attempt to improve it

Swirl in air-filters is usually used to throw out leaves, bugs and about 50% of the dust before it lodges in the filter media.

There is not that louvered tray in the TFSI . It was a doddle to change compared to the TFSI, but the pics really don't show how dirty it was, glad I was wearing gloves, but 27g is nearly an ounce ,which in particle terms is a hell of a lot

I thought they said it would be changed next year (yr 4) ?
