Estimated Fuel on trip computer not reading correct, help!

Featured Replies

Right....

So I just had my car serviced and I changed my side lights.... And either when the car has been serviced or when I changed my sidelights my estimated fuel left in the tank has went funny...

I put a full tank of diesel in after the service and the estimated fuel miles left usually say about 465 or something and now it's saying 200 miles or 210 miles and won't go up or down, it's doing my bit in I don't know it it's done it when it got serviced of when I changed the side lights and took the battery out...

Can someone help please??

Also I've had a new radiator fitted on VRs in November because it was leaking and now when I checked my coolant levels again today they are low again I'm sure the cambelt and water pump were changed only 14000 miles ago too! What else could it be, I had a service 8 days ago and the coolant was okay then... :(

Any help will do please

Cheers

Service doesn't involve messing with your fuel sender and a battery off shouldn't either. I'd disconnect the battery again and see if it comes back.

When you checked your coolant before the service was it low and was the system fully bled after the work was done? If it's only a minor drop it could have been an air lock that's worked it's way through.

Disconnected battery again and didnt do anything but I will try that again!

And yeah I figured it could be a air lock I will top it up and then check it after work tomorrow see how it does!

Cheers mate

The calculation is based on recent miles driven, so if you drive at a steady speed in top gear then the range should increase. If you do lots of start/stop short journeys then the range displayed is a lot less than after a long journey. When I had my old Octavia vRS at the Nurburgring a full tank of fuel would indicate a range of less than 100 miles after it had been driven 3 laps of the track with an average of less than 10 mpg.

Correct, but that doesn't work when the battery has been off at least twice now unless the op has been ragging it round immediately after reconnecting it.

Nope wasn't ragging it after I just connected the battery definately didn't seen as tho engine was cold! I Never rag it until engines warm! But problem has solved itself, the tank had just came on to red light so put £30 in and it went upto 310 miles so Its near enough what it would be usually so i think it's cleared itself now! Also coolant is also now ok I topped it up must of been a air lock as I've been to work in it today and its all ok :)
