Castle Combe Summer Acton Day 2013! 14/9/13 2! x Tracktime & Clubstand

Featured Replies

It was quite interesting we had something like 4 people go off on the last session, if you include the one who ran low on derv and sucked air...

Shows people were trying harder after the first session as they had got a feel for things.

We rarely have anyone go off.

In that case, i'll offer to take you round in it :giggle::rofl::rock:

Id happily jump in and chuckle my way around a few laps

I feel i went in the deep end with mr sox fox and his GTR lol

Good thing about passenger rides is i can have a good nose at who is who when passing or being passed :)

Trouble is i think i need u guys to do a thousand sessions so i can sneak a few laps :D

As for that mk2 :D MAD-UN :)

I seen it appear in daves and marks mirror

Somehow remain on the track then warp ****ing factor 4 it up the straight lol

The dirty side of the track was horrible I had 2 pre slide moments before the "boring off"

it felt like driving on ball bearings

+1, as I was on the left most of the time, I did notice a hell of a lot of marbles :( Quite disconcerting when you slide over them.

On the plus side, they may have stuck to the underbody so will guard against salt this winter :)

Probably a silly question, so apologies in advance. Do you need to get yourself specific insurance for the day?

I'm genuinely inspired by this and would love to come along and take part in one of these days.

You don't need insurance to drive on track.

But if you want insurance cover, then yes you do need to buy trackday cover and there are only a few insurers that offer this, and it's not usually very cheap (although it is cheaper than a new car obviously).

Some of the insurers that offer trackday cover, will not cover castle combe though.

There are several insurers who provide track-day cover. I'm not sure what's covered but as I was going on with Briskoda, I didn't get any. In hindsight, if I had, I might have pushed even harder and come a cropper :D

Monday tomorrow. Back to boring **** like taking pics of my car with SWMBO's knickers hanging off the aeriel :(

You can get track day insurance, but some don't cover Combe because it has a fair number of "moments".

Hence the prefered Briskoda sessions.

I have to say, I've never bought track day insurance for any car/event.  But the Briskoda sessions are a good place to avoid the loonies if you are sensible.

I've fixed that for you ;)

Probably a topic for later when it's actual finished rather than send this Castle Combe thread off topic.

But copilots will also need to have a screw loose...

I'll probably be scared and I'll actually be in control.

Don't know about having a screw loose, but I've got the biggest balls on the forum.............

Thanks guys appreciate the responses. Must admit I'm so tempted for the next session, but listening to Leepatrick's advice - handling mods are a must! :)

I have been participating in track days on most of the Uk and some European circuits since 1989 and in various chariots. Had plenty of moments and a fair few offs. However when you do come off its normally just a gentle cross country jaunt and then carefully back to the pits to remove debris. Certainly more satisfying and much less dangerous than exploring your cars ability and your own personal talent ( or lack of it ) than on the public roads. Ohh and I too have never taken out dedicated track day insurance. Get booked in for next April you will I'm sure have an amazing time. If in doubt book one of the driving experience days at your local circuit using one of their cars and with a racing instructor guiding you.

I've fixed that for you ;)

Considering everything I am giving serious thought to joining the "other loonies" in April.

In the GT-R it never bothered me, you just need to stay ahead of them.

I wouldn't want to be in the middle of them.  But that's unlikely.

Plus I can probably pee a load of them off. :giggle:

I might seek Jason's advice nearer the time.

400bhp per tonne and newbs may not be an ideal match.  Closing speeds could be quite severe.

Yep I know what your saying, maybe there would be enough interest for a "novice only briskoda session" ?

Then the more experienced (read as hardcore loonies) amongst us can have our own sessions or even get a deal and do mixed sessions as we ended up with in april ?

I'm sure there are plenty more novices on here, that want to have a go, but are worried even on the briskoda sessions atm.

With the uphill struggle Jason has filling one/twin sessions it's unlikely IMO.

Maybe a better idea would be car order, with quicker people at the front.

Experienced to the front, novices to the rear so other than a few odd cars lapping after about 9 minutes or so it's quieter.

Just an idea.

The only other choice is to limit the sessions more so I can potentially pick & choose, and there is less crowding, but this puts the price up.  As it is, £50 odd for entry and 2 sessions is a bargain.

Or quite simply line the faster guys and girls up so they get on track first. As with our 15 min sessions only the exceptionally fast are going to be lapping more novice drivers.

^^^ this. :)

liked both of the above points. (Cossie and Boss Fox's #889 and #890 ) Both good ideas IMO. But, that may incurr higher charges if not enough people sign up for the sessions if things were to be kept Briskoda only, which I liked as I knew, or vitually knew, almost everyone out there.

Organising that is both a nightmare to try and sort out, and then a nightmare if someone thinks they are being picked on a bit.  I know - Brisky qualifying session first. :D

Just ask the less experienced to leave the stand last?

I believe they'd get at least two thirds of the session before a quick car came past.

Thing is Jason, I think you do a cracking job and keep it affordable.

What I don't want to do is scare people off.

Keeping it Briskoda only lies at the heart of it IMO, getting people out there having fun together.

Personally don't see why further planning into faster drivers at the front needs to take place. The driver briefing states, use your mirrors and if someone is faster than you, move over. I think April showed how difficult it can be getting everyone onto the correct session, now we've got to sit around while everyone compares BHP as to who goes 1st, 2nd, etc. If you're good enough and fast enough, you'll get past.

you'll get past.

and you all did

Just ask the question novice intermediate or advanced. This will work well it's a tried and tested method and will ensure a more comfortable experience where you can get on with your own driving without having to worry as much about what others are up to.
