Mk4 (If I remember rightly) Fiesta 1.25 zetec engine.

Great engine. Horrible car. Was never happy about the off-colour drivers side passenger door either. It was my dad's old car that he gave me when I passed my test, only 4 years ago.

Cost: dignity :giggle:

Hillman Imp.

I wanted a Mark 1 Escort like absolutely everyone else had, but my Dad had other ideas because his mate told him what a "great car" the Imp was. It was a piece of crap.

Bought a MKII Escort when I'd saved up.

1976 Vauxhall Firenza,

Acquired in.1989.

2x bottom ends.

3x cylinder heads.

4x gearbox.

1x clutch.... (surprisingly)

Got totally fed up with breaking it so I transplanted a Ford Xflow (711m) into it complete with oil cooler, home made inlet manifold for carbs, (remember them?) and running on the bump stops. I loved it and drove it every day right up until 1999. I dove it carefully every where.....

droidscan-scan-20130521_085909173_zps8bd41e1e.jpgFound a picture under the bed in a box.

What was your first car, how long ago and how much did it cost?

Pics if you've got them please..

oops, forgot.

18 years ago. £1200 quid, which was a small fortune to me then.

second car was a mini with angle grinded springs. went round corners like nothing I've ever been in since....

I passed my test in 1996. My first car was a 1982 mk1 golf which I bought for £250. It was an 1100cc, manual choke which was a nightmare in cold weather and had a bit of rust but all in all it was a beauty. i loved it and had many trips down to bournemouth in with the lads!Had it three years and did about 15k miles over 3 years. It only needed one tyre through three MOT's. I sold it on for £220.

Those were the days.

(photo for illustration purposes only but chuffing close) Mk1 Vauxhall Astra estate for £350. I wanted a Nova SR for my first car, dad came home with this. I wasn't amused until he pointed out it had the 1300 ohc engine from the Nova SR in him. Cheapish insurance, relatively pokey and mechanically unbreakable. If only Vauxhall's corrosion protection was so robust.

Dark Blue 1956 Wolseley 4/44 (1250cc of XPAG engine, column change, umbrella handbrake). Cost me all of £35 (in 1968).

Reg No was a near miss as it was TFJ 445. No photo though.

Ran it for 6 months then got a 1959 Rapier, but that's another story.

1303?

My first was a MkII Fiesta 950 Pop Plus. On a B reg. Paid £800 in March '97, wrote it off after 2 months.

Yep, 1303. Good car, but lost a bit of the Beetle IMO in the 1303. Had a plastic shaped dash, instead of the flat metal and the front bumper curled under more. Still loved it, rear wheel drive, went quite well. Had the brakes of the QE2 though. I had a habit of missing when changing down and going from 4th into 1st. It was like hitting a dead cow every time i did that!!

Also, if someone parked up your arse, could rev it and turn off the ignition, hit the accelerator right down and restart the ignition and a blue flame would shoot out the exhaust and teach them a lesson

It was also wierd that the windscreen washer ran off the air pressure from the spre tyre. Clean windows=flat tyre

Really glad i found the picture, although now i remember its 18 years ago it scares me

fiat-panda-750-01.jpg

A Fiat Panda 750cc. 34 stampeding horses.

Cost: what little "cool" I had as a teenager. It really was the crappiest car in the world. And yet so awesome at the same time cos it meant a bit of freedom. Utter paradox.

Passed in 97, didn't buy a car until 2001 - 1992 Peugeot 309 1.4. Ex-Met Police (complete with the holes in the roof welded up) and it was a complete knacker. I gave my mate £100 for it and then fitted 205 GTI 16s, replaced the knackered interior for £30, Bilstein suspension and then I went on secondment in London and came home to find it had been scrapped (although at that point if had a War and Peace MOT refusal list and hasn't moved for sometime). I then went to work in London for 2 years and the now wife's uncle face me their J plate Mk 5 Escort Ghia. It was a great car (apart from the missing sills, broken steering rack, collapsed seat, etc!).

CItroen ZX "Elation" 1.4i, bought new in 1995. It ran near perfectly (apart from the radio locking itself one night) for 5 years, then I rolled it on a greasy patch of road.

1.1C, manual choke (the special kind that came with a clothes peg). Owned from 1998 to 2004. It used to belong to my granddad (the stripes weren't his fault) and was given to me when I was taking lessons. Aside from having to replace the rear suspension twice and the obvious rust issues, it was absolutely faultless. Had loads of fun with this car. Still missed.

Mini van of unknown vintage. Cost £35. Slightly rotten and knackered. Replaced brakes. wiring, cylinderhead and loads of other stuff. Finished about 7pm Friday.

Bought so me and the mates could go on our already booked Norfolk Broads holiday when the only car owning member of our troup dropped his GF in the family way, and pulled out - too late obviously.

Broke down about 12 miles into the journey, started a bit late as we were detained in the pub. Gent stopped (bunch of scruffy oiks, side of the road, 1 AM. Would that happen thse days? He sussed the points had closed up, guessed the settings and sent us on our way (most of us apprentices in the vehicle industry).

Next stop was Kings Lynn with a puncture. Of course there was no jack, so we had to unload and lean the car over while the pit crew changed the wheel. Of course it got dropped, so that made it a bit trickier, and someone lost a wheel nut.

In the mid sixties, there were lots of proper greasy spoons, somewhere near the boatyard, we dropped on a xxx(l) diner, but it tasted great to us then.

At the end of the week, we went to Gt Yaremouth for some fun and found the fuel tank leaked like a seive, all over the carpark. Had to drive back with a max capacity of about two gallons. Fortunately, there were lots of road side filling stations then, and petrol was 4/3d (21p per GALLON). I vaguely remember burning about th same amount of oil too.

My first car was in 2004 and was an "F reg" VW Polo 1.0 "Fox" and was bought for me by my parents. It last about 8 months before a w****r in a HGV rammed me into a kerb, smashing my suspension :(

They bought me the repalcement, a "H reg" Ford Fiesta 1.4 Ghia which lasted until I swapped it with my sisters '98 Corsa 1.5D a year later..... my car history got a lot better after that :giggle:
