Hi guys can you please expalin how all this works.

 

New car on order:-  Octavia VRS TDI estate.  Meteor grey, glass roof, canton, posh sat nav, etc most of the toys tbh.  On ordering no mention that this might be an issue.  Never was with current BMW.  Order placed Nov25th.

The current staus is that the factory has accepted order I have an SLI number.  This is good!

SUK or the dealer have no info at all about build weeks.  Dealer told me that when I placed my order he had just had a notice to say 18 to 20 weeks delivery.  Failed to tell me that when I ordered and suggested March delivery.

 

SUK expalined that they don't allocate a build until the sysytem shows all the parts but have no idea when that will be.  Suggested that they are in the hands of their suppliers so they have no vision.

 

I'm guessing that I will see the car around june at this rate..................

 

Does anyone have any insight into what is going on?

I think it's quite a lottery atm. I ordered an Elegance on 4/11 and had a build date roughly a month later of BW9. Last week i got an update from my dealer saying that the build week had moved forwards to 8, and so the system showed a provisional build week of 8 atm and he did say that since my BW had not moved much around most likely it would be built between 7-9. However he did not want to commit to anything until there was a confirmed build date.

 

Others as you see have ordered MONTHS before me but are being told BW20+...so if there is a system, it's hard to decode!

I understand there is a very heavy demand for the VRS and it has caught them on the hop but surely there must be some kind of planning in the factory?

Octavia VRS is just coming into Grimsby after leaving Emden on the 8th Jan.Should be 2 weeks till I pick her up private plate to be transferred.

Candy White TDI Columbus canton,debating to get the windows tinted as I did not have the black pack.

Ordered the 27th September 13 so 15 weeks waitng list seems to be about right.

ordered VRS Hatch with not many options on the 23rd Nov, dealer quoted late January/ early Feb when buying.

 

rang SUK before Christmas and was told BW12, then BW13 and now they are saying BW15. I have a bad feeling that every time I call SUK it will just get pushed back. has anyone actually received a lone car after 18/20 weeks? if so was it arranged by the dealer or by SUK?

Went into see my dealer last weekend to drop off my current cars v5 and mot to tax my new car with my private plate on ready for pick up in on the 21 January. I've ordered a vrs tdi hatch a few toys nothing problematic on the 20 October originally going to wait till march as it was a mid February estimate. but car was built just before Xmas so I thought I take it early.

Anyway the reason for the post is that my dealer said that I was very lucky, not only to have the car this soon ( 13 weeks ) could have been 12 weeks but wanted to pick up in day light hence the extra week, but skoda have told the dealership to advise customers wanting to order a new octavia that they could be waiting till some time around May to June maybe even longer for vRS.

In my mind being told a realistic time scale is better customer sevice as you know where you stand and there would be less disappointment and anger with waiting times constantly being put back. But I would think dealers would see it as putting potential new orders off.

Some of these slippages are very very poor. I can imagine the factory doing groups of similar cars and hence some order to collection waits being affected by a week or two on the luck of when you place your order and the spec group it ends up in.  I can also imagine that bigger dealer chains may be able to absorb some slip as the odd customer cancels and the dealer chain shuffles their other customers up to fill in behind, and bigger dealers will be ordering more stock for their forecourts giving more ability to absorb short term delay issues.  That's all fair IMO.  I can also believe big dealers and lease companies can apply more pressure to SUK to ensure less wait for their customers and maximise their profits.... I dont like that but it seems realistic.

 

Add all this up and I can understand some variation between dealers and some changes for individuals... Some.  However the variance being seen here is nuts!

 

Personally I ordered, through a large dealer (I think), a week before Christmas. I have a provisional date from the dealer that amounts to 16 weeks wait.  Once it's a month since order I'll ask SUK if I'm accepted by the factory and have a provisional build week. Until I get that..... Anything could happen.

If my car is delayed I'll ask for a bit of fair compensation, extended warranty for example.  If the wait goes out to 24, 25 weeks... may have to look at another car.  I'm not sure what though.

It's living in Essex... if you'd ordered a 4x4 you could have it tomorrow!

 

My build week is slipping.  Trying to forget I've got a car on order until I get that magic call...

Apart from girls thats needed to buy their knickers from C & A to know which round to put them on, WTF has Essex gotta do with it ?

right well my build week 04 has just been confirmed so starting to get super dooper excited now! Should have it built sometime during 20-25th of Jan and then I'm still gonna have to wait till 1st march to pick it up, but I've waited since 1st of september so I can wait a few more weeks. It'll be 6 months from order to delivery  ...

My vRS is now built and in the UK waiting to be picked up from the port to the dealership, dealer call tonight car should arrive there next week..

Ordered 2nd Sept, bw 51, waiting time will be 20 weeks

How did you wangle 14 plate-ness with dealer? After delay I've had I'm not interested in a 63 if it's a week away from a 14. Confirmed build week 3 as of today!

My contract said the car needed to be picked up within 10 days of the PDI. Of course, there's always wriggle room.

So they won't register the car on a 63 without your consent you mean? So basically I've got week 3 then 3 weeks to ship putting me mid feb. Hopefully I have a leg to stand on to argue the case.

Just talk to the dealer. My car was build week 49 (w/c 2nd December). I'd had a call to say it would be at the dealers by second week in January and then another one on December 18th to say it was being delivered tomorrow and that I could pick it up December 20th so 18 days from the start of my build week to me being behind the wheel.

 

If yours follows the same pattern you'd be asking them to keep it from January 31st. Tell your dealer what you want and they'll advise you. Bearing in mind their commission starts after you collect the car, they'll not be keen to see a big pile of commission untapped though. I think the earlier it comes the bigger the fight you'll have. I'm sure you'll be fine though, my dealer was great, hope yours is too.

So did mine mate,but also he said 12week delivery,so as its being built week 3, I said im not having it till march 1st,said if the manufacture and dealer takes 6months to supply me with a new car,they are not really in a position to argue about making me have it a week or so before the plate changes,and as iv not paid a deposit they can shove it il walk from it,seeing that I wasnt joking he put the need by date to march 1st on the order on his computer,so happy days

I couldn't agree more. That's why I said there's plenty of wriggle room. It's that 'need by' date on the system that counts as that makes a difference. As annoying as it is though, legally, if the 'need by' date was as soon as possible and the car isn't collected within those ten days because the buyer decides to wait an excessive time, the dealer is well within their legal (but not moral) right to sell that vehicle to someone else and charge the original buyer for any losses as stated in the contract. Of course most wouldn't do that but if my car was delivered soon and I wanted to wait for a March registration I'd be speaking in a calm and pleasant way first rather demanding they wait. Sadly, for many who didn't specify a March 'need by' date all of the power is in the hands of the dealer and as frustrating as it is, the decision to delay registration beyond those ten days is a gesture of goodwill. For people in this position it's worth remembering that a polite and friendly discussion is likely to be much more successful than wading and demanding something you're not legally entitled to. I'd always try to be nice first, a good relationship with your dealer is very useful.

My dealler actually suggested I wait till march 1st to pick up the car and he had no argument from me! Assuming the car is built around the 20th of jan and then takes 3-4 weeks to get to the dealer, it'll only be a couple of weeks sitting at the dealership. I'm gonna get it 'new car detailed by PW Pro so it'll be all nice and shiny when I get it...It's gonna be the best saturday ever! (hopefully)

Ordered our TDI 150 4x4 with the rough road package the day after you 11/10/13 but it's not been built quite yet; due down the line next week

The Plumber, thanks mate, I'm following on yours as well. Fingers crossed to have it godspeed by the end of the month   We will catch at least part of the winter!

So how many people have had a loan car from SUK for a wait beyond 18 weeks?

If that's their commitment and everyone pushed for it they may feed something back centrally that a better system is required.

Dealer replied to state that it's looking like first week in Feb so no pushing till March. I said this was OK, but IF there are any other delays and it looks like the 15th or 22nd I'd really rather it wait, especially as I was quoted 10 weeks, not the 18 it will have been, and we'd only be looking at a few more days! I've emailed and I'm hopeful, even offered to cover storage costs for the couple of weeks(!) 

Vrs estate Ordered on the 16th of September and finally being delivered next Wednesday, I make that 19 weeks, guess if you allow for the Christmas period it's 17 weeks.

When I ordered I was told 9 to 12 weeks. The dealers kept me up to speed but we have never really found out why the delay.

I can only think its one of the numerous reasons posted on here, doubt I will never really find out.
