I'd rather they drove it a couple of hundred miles and found every single problem there might be before handing it over.  I might not have had to keep going to to get them resolved, then!!   Rachel

  • Not sharp just blunt! You need to look at the bigger picture thats all. In a few weeks it will have a few stone chips in the bonnet a ding in the door from an inconsiderate ape in the supermarket and

Honestly - what a fuss about a very small mileage!!!

When I was in the motor trade - many cars were individually delivered by a man with trade plates up and down the country.

If you wanted say colour XX - a quick search might say there was one in Birmingham. This was then transferred from dealer to dealer, and a driver would drive this like a maniac from Birmingham to Bristol.

It was nothing to have a new car with 80-90 miles on the clock when collected.

Today, the cars go on a transporter - therefore the mileage is extremely low, and the advantage is that no individual has driven it flat out.

13 miles? - think yourself lucky!

If a car is delivered with 13 miles on the clock you just KNOW the spotty 17-yr old apprentice mechanic had borrowed it for the afternoon and has been ragging the nuts off it, smoking weed in it and nailing his girlfriend on the back seat.....

I've just wasted part of my life reading this thread....wtf....

IIRC my Superb had about 80-90 delivery miles on it.

Then again it was "delivered" from Central London to Northamptonshire.

I hope you went Whammy burger on them for that.

A Famous Scottish Dealership regularly gets its new vehicles delivered to Edinburgh or Glasgow,

one drop for the new vehicles off the Transporter.

They then get the PDI, Registration done and then driven along the M8 to the other sided of the country for the New Owner to collect where they ordered it from.

So you can imagine how that first 50 miles on the clock might have been driven.

Not just Skodas. many new vehicles.

After reading all the posts, it seems the answer is 5-30 miles is standard for a new car from factory but anywhere up to 100 for one that's traveled from another dealer.

I simply asked as i didn't know what was required for new cars, what they go through, i expected a few miles for delivery etc, but was unaware of the journeys dealerships could do before the car is handed over, road tests, fault checking a sly test drive for another customer?

I asked 'SHOULD' i of made a fuss with my Octavia 18 months ago, as i'm due to pick a new car (Fabia Monte Estate) beginning of September so didn't want to b done over again, but no i know what i need to be expecting,...

I don't normally make a fuss over things but, at the time, i though 15 miles delivery was a lot for a car from factory! but its quite apparent i was pretty lucky with the number of miles.

I still feel some of the comments, from more experienced owners and forum members were a little harsh. i'm new here, i'm young and i my Octavia was the first brand new car i had owned so didn't know what to expect. i was seeking some advice and guidance on the issue not mocking and comments treating me like a re***d...

Little disappointed in the replies, a simple comment describing what process the cars go through and what miles to expect/ you have received...

I'm sure most of the replies were said more in humour than intending to mock. These forums can be cruel places at times.

You do need a thick skin as I've found myself, not so much on here but Forums in general.

I hope you enjoy your new Monte when it arrives, a great choice. Good Luck  .

30/40 id have to wonder wheres it come from but i wouldnt create fuss over it.

As for not being done over ??? Surely the price you pay for a new car and whts its worth once you get home is more of a concern rather then wether its don 15 or 50 miles lol

thanks, im normally pretty good with banter, being in the forces its a common thing, but the replies on here were came across as mocking, granted its difficult to understand what context replies are posted with.

i cant wait for the new car, went and say a blue monte estate today as i was desperate to see one, looked utter brillaint!

Cheers

Yes well you always get some who go OTT. Have you seen the Monte 'Combi' thread just posted on here? looks awesome.

Yep, spotted the tread, i say it a while back when i was googling for skoda new release's and was instantly sold, suited me to the ground, estate for practicality and sporty looks!

Try googling 'skoda cross over'   'skoda mpv'  and have a look at the pictures that are returned, there not computer generated, the MPV is...interesting...lol

I like how the Crossover looks,  as to the MPV, i would be happy to never see the likes of it.

Ye i'd have the cross over any day, as for the MPV that can stay in Germany/where ever its living now!

Whe I went to view my citigo before I bought it, it had 60 miles on it. It had been a showroom car. When I picked it up it had 88 miles, most of them were to the window tint place and back and also a roadtest before I got it.

You shoudnt worry about the first miles as that figure will soon vanish and you will soon hit 10,000 in no time

It occurs to me that if the car has been at the dealer for more than a month or two, I'd want them driving the car at least around the block, rather than letting it idle for half an hour once a week.

I think it was more a case of disbelief than mocking

Some people seem to get too hung up on triviality in this life instead of looking at the bigger picture, so when a thread starts in that vein it stands out

Maybe the difference between 5 and 6 miles and 13 to 15 miles to you is a big issue

To the vast majority above it would appear not

Good luck with the Monte

Would this by any chance be the same factory I used to work in...? Burnaston?

Have done work in several - not on the T&F at Burnaston, but Sunderland, Longbridge, Luton, Solihull, Castle Bromwich, Halewood...the list goes on.  One of my previous companies made Rolling Roads/Chassis Dynos..

Well, I think that's what you got from most of us. But it probably did sound a bit like you were obsessed with the mileage thing for the sake of it and it seemed a bit strange. Now we understand where you are properly coming from. Buying the a new car can be scary...but most dealers look after you just fine so don't worry. Do keep posting so we know how you are getting on with your new car. This is a great place to be and it's full of people who can help you with all sorts of stuff. Good luck! :hi:

To echo what Jps man said it wasn't mocking just aboslute amazement that you could get so hung up on 13 miles. I was actually hoping to lighten the mood and make you realise you were fixating on something thats unimportant and in the grand scheme of things your very lucky to own a nice car. Many people have serious problems with their cars so this stood out as a bit trivial. My blackline got reversed into in the first few days of ownership we later found out it was the scrap metal man who drove off without so much as a sorry. My car was parked on my drive. Stuff like that makes your blood boil and then you relax and remember its just a car. Hope no hard feelings man i was just trying to help.

Put it another way, you got a "HOT" thread, more replies than you can shake a stick at  .

I've been obsessing over all the details too, partly cos I'm so new to it and didn't want to get done, and partly because I just wanted my first new car to be perfect.

In a way it paid off because I really love it. Hope your monte suits you as perfectly too. Enjoy!!!

  • 1 month later...

My Fabia had 6 kilometres or 3.7 miles on the clock.

In the late 1960s BMW cars were manufactured with the odometer reading 999,400 approx. they were then driven from Bavaria to the ferry and to Uk where they would be reading 0000000 as they arrived at the showrooms. My figures are not accurate just examples to show the principles.

I know this is fact as I often travelled the ferries with the drivers.

Has the Monte estate been delivered yet?
