Fabia SDI rough when coming to a stop.

Featured Replies

Hi guys

So basically I have a 2003 fabia 1.9 sdi.

I dont have any warning lights on at the minute and the only other problem I have is the engine making a 'swip swip swip' noise as it turns over (tensioner or belt noise maybe?) which only started after a long drive to cornwall.

The main problem I have is when I come to a stop, the engine judders like it's dropped a cylinder and it's running like 'jud jud jud jud jud jud jud jud' until I come to a complete stop, which it then picks up again and runs like a normal SDI.

While driving it will run like a normal SDI. It's literally just when coming to a stop.

Also, when I turn the car off it usually judders quite bad as it dies. Not sure if this is a clue or not. It also seems a little worse on fuel these days.

It seems to be getting worse (the juddering when coming to a stop thing) :(

Any help is much appreciated.

Could be a shagged gearbox mount allowing excess movement in the engine on shutdown, but hen you say coming to a stop do you mean for lights, road endings etc?

Yes - but earlier, i dipped the clutch to coast into my works car park and the engine fell into idle as normal but then juddered like it has been until i came to a complete stop. so it's not entirely frontal inertia thats making it judder, its almost like slowing down is starving it of fuel or something?

i have heard a lot about the v175 throttle body looking things going wrong on the sdi, but as i dont have a engine light on, im wondering if this is it?

sounds like dual mass fywheel dying will cause missfire like symptoms

Okay - any other signs this is failing? Its perfect on driving. Also is that likely to be the 'swit swit swit swit swit' engine noise I can hear?

also - a few previous posts suggest the sdi is not a DMF?

Hasn't got one. SMF on these.

More info: My temperature needle sits at 1/4 all the time unless I'm in traffic when it sits 1/2 way like most other cars. Is this a dodgy stat and sender? Could this cause the rough running when stopping?

Cheers pal - also love the signature and display pic. I have Darth tattooed on my arm (along with C3P0, Yoda, Boba Fett and more soon)

So anyone have any idea of this? It's like when I come to a stop the engine picks up but can still be a bit rough then I give it a quick blast on the throttle and its mostly okay again.

Its gotten a bit worse since I put biodiesel in - is this a fueling problem? And the car braking is stopping fuel some how?

Engine and gearbox mounts sound like likely culprits

to me. Fuel shouldn't be a problem, the SDI isn't the fussiest

when it comes to fuel and will run on veg oil if it has the Bosch

fuel pump.

Although, if I were using alternative fuels, (I never did on mine)

then I'd run a tank full of V power diesel or similar through

every once in a while just to help keep the fuel system clean.

I didnt know mounts could cause this kind of rough running! I'll give it a quick tug and see whats loose when I get to it again
