New rival for droptops like MGBs, MX5s, Z4s

Posting this here, knowing that amongst Yeti owning folks there are a fair number of hood-down wind-in-the-hair enthusiasts!

I'm not a fan of the MINI range at all, nor of Beemers, despite owning a Zedd and loving it, but this new low slung Min looks interesting, especially from behind!!

I think that looks very well styled.

Clearly it's the 'outdoor' version with unpainted sills and extended arches

That is some shoddy Photoshopping, even for Auto Express.  It is nothing more than their usual "heard a rumour, wrote an article including full road test" guesswork.

Hmmm - great AE article, in which they believe that Mini are going to replace this (The Roadster):

Have i missed something here?

Quite!

moved to general car chat... it will sell, but lordy it's hideous.

Yep the stripes are further apart mate

Ah right, so they are!

That'll explain it then, thanks for clarifying

Pointless and will be driven by estate agents and other people with hairy palms. Germany's incarnation of the Mini disgusts me.

I'd much rather have the 2014 (or whenever it gets released) Alfa Spider that's being developed alongside the next MX5

The Ragtop Toyota GT86 when it comes might actually be a Droptop competitor worth having.

Hideous!

I'm left wondering just how many different versions of the new mini can be squeezed out.

How long before we see a mini pickup or mini beach buggy?

It looked brilliant at Goodwood.

As are the eyes of the person who'll purchase this abomination.

+1. How many incarnations of the Mini are there now? That beefed up one (Pac Man) looks hideous IMO. A useless one sided suicide door one (pointless in the UK) There's others but I really can't be arsed to think of them all now :dull:

And the name, 'Mini', is a bit misleading these days.

Checked the Mini site; Mini Limited Editions from, get this, £28,795 :o A base SE Golf VII starts at £19,200, that's a massive 9 and a half K difference ffs The new Octy vRS only starts at £22,990.

Are there people so window-licking mental that they'd actually pay that sort of money for a chuffing MINI :wall:

There were some camouflaged minis near Aylesbury a few weeks ago that could be mules?

Had boxed rear but definitely different front from current minis.

Guess that's one of their test areas?

Factory is in oxford isnt it? Not too far away so could be so

A friend has one. Given the sheer size of them i'm amazed by the lack of room. The fat ones look like something Disney forgot to draw and as for the one that looks like its wearing a toupee, nuff said. Window licker OR shallower than a puddle of pee.

My God it's ugly.

Wind in your hair? Yes, if you're a hairdresser

That's only £110 more than the Yeti I'd spec if I was buying now.

I don't like Mini's and that one is horrible.

I think your all being a bit harsh its not my cup of tea, but if they made it rear wheel like a bmw and gave it enough horses to unsettle the back end they would sell plenty. It would then be a proper rival for the mx5 which i like but i think suffers from a 'hairdresser' image problem. They need to make the styling a bit more angular and agressive though they still can't get away from looking like a squashed bettle. The first audi tt had the same problem.

Stevie Wonder the design chief at Mini now?

compactpussycatani.jpg A hairdresser's car?
