where do you get £17150 for a Fabia?  Ours £14,000 on the nose, brand new car pre registered by the dealer and for that money why would I want a car with all the show and no go?

Being the second owner on a Pre-Reg car is no problem on cars that have very low residual values,

& really it is going to make very little difference when it was delivery miles on collection.

 

Only WBAC bothers about the previous owners, and they are offering so little if it is 1 or 2 owners that you really want to get a car shifted to accept their offer.

 

There are now cars with performance for around £17,000-£18,000, but the Fiesta ST is 3 Door & Manual. (available for a discount as well no doubt)

 

So we are not comparing Apples and Pears when we move to the thought of 3 doors and manual boxes..

There are cars for a few thousand  more that do the same as a vRS,

& if someone wants them they will no doubt buy them.

I think that's what the CEO is getting at, the Fabia vRS didn't sell at full price and only really got a uk following because of Skoda UK's 0%VAT deals.

Maybe, I might do one day, but I've driven several Fiestas in that shape and not liked them at all. Not just on drive but all around vision and interior space. When doing my ADI training I sat in on a lot of lessons to spectate and with an average height person in the driving seat there is no space in the back, not even for me at 5ft 6in, I found the Fabia has a lot more leg room and better seats, even a lower range model.

 

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against Ford in any way, I've owned half a dozen used or new Fords and they were nice cars but just don't think the current Fiesta is as good as made out to be, I guess the ST is a decent upgrade in interior quality.

The OP was about the New Fabia mk3's & how Dr. Vahland said there will not be a vRS Version.

VAG never got around to mentioning what the Engine would be if there was to be one and have not officially shown what a Mk 3 Fabia will look like.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a previous post mentioned the RS is being dropped due to poor sales figures in Europe? I don't know about the rest of Europe but in Germany and the UK, a high proportion of cars sold these days are diesel. And what did Skoda not make?

and is pretty well documented.

it is the next Fabias & them having to be Type Approved & suitable for Euro 6 emissions until it gets to Euro 7 emission time.

 

So anything can happen to how VAG treat the cars that they are going to launch pre 2015.

what engines, performance, gearboxes, trims,& then what happens from then on.

 

I can see Euro 6 emission cars and any upcoming EU legislation making the modifying of ECU's a problem.

Tuning of cars has gone on since the days of Karl Benz and it won't end. Car makers may make things more difficult for the mappers, but as with Games consoles, mobile phones etc etc, there will always be someone who can crack the ECU.

We are moving on, only the UK is holding things up,

There were pilot trials with the motor bike tests before they then relaxed the planned up-dated MOT.

Dropped the MOT @ 4 years & then every 2 year plan.

 

The bike went on the table, WEB CAM linked to a VOSA Supervisor, & a small hand camera.

non standard exhaust checked, non standard brakes etc.

I had a bike fail during a Test Station being used in the trials, about 4 years ago,

,a Yamaha Import with one front brake disc/caliper but a mount on each fork leg.

I needed to get a FAX from Yamaha to get my Certificate issued.

 

Europe want things like some US States, and other stricter regulations.

 

For the future the plan is cars will plug in at the MOT.

The manufacturers official weight and cars spec will show.

Emissions, factory spec including options, standard tyres, tyre noise, etc.

 

One thing that the DVLA would like is cars/vehicles will show if modified and then show if insured correctly.

 

Not just my imagination,

but hopefully not happening in the UK, before i am using a Mobility Scooter.

That was what i decided and the reason I have one on order. Don't get me wrong the Fabia vRS is a great car but after a new engine I would not buy another. I was waiting for the new fabia vrs but of course now we know it will not be coming.

It was not until I test drove the Fiesta ST that I realised how much I missed the control you have with a manual gearbox. I was just getting lazy with the DSG and the Fiesta woke me up.

Hartage and AC Schnitzer have had to resort to piggy back ECU's for tuning of the new generation of BMW engines. Still effective but a lot more expensive.

I think what is telling in this thread is most bought the cars during the VAT off deals.

 

How many would have bought the car if negotiating from full list price of £17150-£18000?

 

And that's the problem for the CEO. the vRS didn't sell in Europe at full price and it only sold in the UK heavily discounted.

 

But he shifted loads of Monte's and made a healthy profit.

 

From a business point of view you can see why he's reluctant to commit to a Mk3 vRS.

Wouldn't be the first time a car maker has said they'll kill off a flagship model, increase demand then out comes the next one a few years later.

Skoda just need to build a model that people want in large numbers, wether it's called a VRS or not they need a sporty model IMO to inject some desirability in the range.

It doesn't need to be so quick, a copy of the hot Ibiza/Polo GTi.

I can understand why Skoda has sold so few Mk2 Fabia vRS models. The first sticking point is the DSG box, which many motoring journo's tell us we don't need in a sporty hatch (there have been a few positive reviews such as by Richard Hammond writing in The Mirror and Giles Smith in The Times. It was even showcased in Octane magazine). I thought I didn't want an auto box until I test-drove the vRS. After a second test drive I was smitten with the engine/gearbox combination and decided to buy. The problem is getting people into the car in the first place. I originally was shopping for a Fabia 1.2 TSI for the missus and only test-drove the vRS out of curiosity. A secondary problem is that it is a Skoda and to the uninitiated that is not hot hatch territory or particularly cool. We expect a Skoda to be cheap and many of us would only buy the vRS on the 'VAT free' deal. For me the car was the best bang for buck considering the performance and technology you were buying. Good economy and cheap insurance have been a bonus. Skoda's early television ad's for the vRS were poor, then the marketing seemed to dry up, perhaps because they didn't want to push sales when engine related warranty claims were on the increase. They could have made much more of their IRC rally success. We may end up driving RS Fiestas or even Toyota GT86's because the journo's tell us that they are good drivers cars. I for one will be sad to see the vRS go.

as long as it's priced to compete with the cheese eaters offerings in that class, that would do well.

They can do what they like, but a Citigo is not the size of a Fabia mk 2 and probably not of a Fabia mk3.

 

A Octavia is not its another class up in size.,

& some might like me, are happy with fugly cars, but a Rapid might just be a step too far.

 

It is a pity that the Clio RS 200 Turbo is not perfect, but for any that like a Twin Clutch it is a viable option.

Its OK but not as nippy as a Twincharger.

(no matter what the numbers in the articles say.)
