Doh!

Featured Replies

Whilst trying to fit my new black grille this evening I managed to trip over a stray gearbox in the workshop which fell onto the front of me brand new vRS!  :wall:  :wall:  :@

I was so p***ed off that I put the front of the car back together minus new grille.  A swift beer followed, so I didn't want to do any more work anyway.

Friday the 13th eh?

Hope you all had luckier days!  :whew:  :sun:

Tom

yikes! :(

That sucks. The gearbox fell on the car?!

Yup, luckily, it only caught the front bumper - a couple of deep gouges in the paint, which I'd imagine can be filled and painted.  Probably a couple of hundred quid's worth to paint the bumper though

A couple of rubbish pics: There are about four deep white scratches and a scratch to the fog light lens.

A smart repair company should be able to sort that out :)

I hope someone will. I can't bear to look at my baby now! Only a week old too!

Just tell people if they see it and ask, that its from the top speed tests in Germany lol.

Devastating when that happens.

I could deal with it if I'd had it a few months/a year and it had some other battle scars, but a week old. I haven't even washed it yet and it needs paint.

It's not toooo bad though, and could have been so much worse.  Not sure if it's too deep for a smart repairer? Do their repairs hold up well these days?  The missus' old Yaris had some scratches done on the front bumper a few years back and after a few months it looked a bit dull where he'd airbrushed it in.  Wasn't as happy as when the bodyshop resprays tbh.

Similar thing happened to a friend, he had a brand new Astra VXR when they were first released. On the 3rd day his missus took it to work and caught a small wooden post, and then continued driving putting a rather heaving crease in the wing, door, rear quarter and bent most of the sill too. Needless to say it was an instant write off lol. Apparently she's still making it upto him to this day haha

Blimey! I was lucky then!  My missus caught the alloy on her Monte the day after buying it new.  Needless to say muggins was out touching it in next day!

Still thinking about the SMART repairer and whether they can sort it...

:x I will shut up about the small pebble that hit my windshield then... On the premier tour, after only 30miles.

This is worse BUT it should be able to fix, by someone skilled!

But it's not hard for anyone to relate to how you feel!  :S

Gutted for you Tom, at least it's low down on the bumper, and not dented or creased the bodywork, and not likely to catch your eye too much. I know you'll know it's there and that'll just bug you until you get it fixed, I've had some smart repairs done on vehicles at work and they've stood up well. Chin up, don't let it defeat you. :)

Cheers folks.. I'll get some repair quotes tomorrow and report back :)

As nasty as that sounds I struggle to see an insurance company writing off a few day old 20 odd grand car with that kind of damage. Without doubt a few K of damage but I'm sure it'd have been quite easily repairable, even damaged sills arent a major drama nowadays.

If a car needs jigging, now that can be an entirely different kettle of fish.

well, at least it didnt land on your bonnet ...

im sure youll get those fixed in no time and it will be back to sparkling new :)

Speaking of bonnet...

I know someone who put his brand new car in his garage where he also had a pile of cut up wood (BAD idea...)

and for one reason or another, when he drove in, one piece of wood fell down and landed straight on the bonnet!!

Leaving a bump in it.

I'm trying to keep that in mind when I get stone chips hitting the car. Sometimes it eases my mind sometimes it doesn't...

As someone said, at least it's low... But I know the feeling too well, YOU know it's there and it's very hard to forget it!

But someone will fix it neatly, I'm sure!!

Bummer! I'm sure that's easily fixed though. Will the fog light polish out?

Oh dear. Never good when your car gets scratched but it worse when you see it happen. I scratch my last car with a metal snow shovel web trying to clear the drive around it. The steam coming out of my ears would've cleared the drive in seconds if it wasnt for my language turning the air blue!

Would be interesting to get smart repair vs full bumper spray quotes.

I think this may be bodyshop job folks - some quite nasty creases on the bumper which I'd imagine need filling. Daytime pics attached (and yes, those are real tears on the bodywork beading nicely) :)

Sorry for you!!  :(

That looks horrible to me!

But what do I know, some of those guys and girls working with repairs can do magic!!

What about insurance in case they need to repaint the whole bumper to make it look invisible?

I may just contrubute with stupid stories from life, and it won't make you any happier, but when

I was parking my previous new Ocativa (then less than one week old!) I managed to scratch a rear

rim pretty nasty. A BIG scratch in the Aluminum. I didn't find it hard to keep myself from laughing...

I never fixed it, and the point is that after a while (months!) I begun to stop thinking about it.

It will be the same with this after it's fixed! You may see it, and you will know it's there, and you will

still for some time curse the decision to have that stray gearbox where it was, but I'm sure that

none else after the repair will notice the scratches.

Good luck with it!

I have no words................ cant believe you treat your baby this way!! :P

It was an accident! I can't even bear to look at it now though...

Spoke to Beadles Skoda earlier and seeing as it is going into them next week for the lane assist re-calibration, they might as well sort the bodywork while they're at it.

hehe im only jealous cos you got your vrs so long before me lol :P

Ask ChipsAway to have a look. It's amazing what they can do now. £100 could well cover it!

Best of luck buddy!
