Spare wheel regret

Featured Replies

OK, it's not really a regret, but didn't spec a spare wheel (just didn't think to!)

Is it possible to add a spare wheel without changing our order or it's place in the queue?  If not, I guess I can buy one from ebay or something, but they tend to be up to £150 on there. I guess a dealer would supply one at the option price (or more?)

Also, I'm assuming the spare wheel is in the floorpan below the second level of the adjustable boot floor? So the variable floor works as expected?

Correct.

I did the same. Placed an order 2 weeks ago. Told my build is locked now. So if I want the Space saver it will be a dealer order at £149. I said configurator says £75 but they will not budge on price.

2 weeks and locked, many on here will be waiting 2 seasons

Taking mine out of my trade in and sticking it in the wheel well.

if your order is locked and you cant add the factory option have you thought of asking your dealer nicely to swap your gunge kit for their VRS spare wheel (if they have one) with some money thrown in?

that wont work for his as its a vrs mkiii and needs an 18" spare. :(

Im in this position - kinda wished I ordered it now, although I've always belonged to the "full-sized spare alloy" brigade....

Now most cars get crap foam.

Pretty soon wheels at each corner will be optional.

You can do away with wheels already, it will give you more speed than you'll ever need, go wherever you like, but it handles like a pig.

It's a Formula 1 hovercraft!

Lucky for me I added a spare to my order at the weekend. I was wondering if I still got the repair kit aswell??

TBQH you don't want to touch Tyre Weld.

If you use it and the puncture is in the centre of the tyre and would normally be reparable, it won't be because you've used Tyre Weld, I have been told that by 3 tyre companies. You will be required to buy a new tyre.

Thanks for that, If I do get it with the car it's going on eBay!

Part of the reason for the reduced cost (£75 factory) compared to £149 (dealer fit) is that the spare wheel is in lieu of the repair kit and compressor.

I'm amazed the dealers don't ask every customer if they want the spare wheel added to their order - a very easy £75 addition to the bill.

I know of a few tyre places that won't even entertain replacing a tyre if tyre weld has been used. Go buy a new rim to go with your new tyre!

My Mk2 has a factory spare - 205/55/16 to match the rolling radius of the 225/40/18 OE wheels.

The VRS has huge brakes so it needs at least a 17 to clear them, a 16 won't do.

My dealer came through. He managed to get SUK retail sales people to adjust my order so that I get the spare at £75. Worth trying to do the same if you decide you'd like a spare wheel after all. No car build date for me yet.

True, but I think it will still fit the rear. So, if you were to have a puncture on the front, you could put the spare on the rear and then move the wheel you have just taken off the rear to the front. A bit of a faff I know, but at least you can still get away with your 16. Not sure what the difference will be in the rolling circumference but avoids the gunk and gets you a cheap spare if it will work :)

I made the mistake and added to my order...

However the sales rep was absolutely useless and didn't add it to my order however the dealer honoured it and gave it me free :) so wont complain.

The spare wheel is a 18 inch space saver as said above due to the big brakes

Oh yes, I forgot about that, they're bigger on the mk3 aren't they. What's the size of the front disc? 345mm like the old R32/S3?

I am told that (in the case of Mazda at least) if you use their own supplied "goo" (which costs £40+ to renew) the tyre cannot be re-used.  However if you buy and use a can of Holt's Tyre Weld (around £8 from Halfords) the tyre can be cleaned up and re-used, provided the damage is not severe and is in a favourable place.

Can anyone confirm if this is true about the Holt's compound, please?  If so, it would seem a good idea to carry a can of that instead.

About 10 years a ago I had an MG ZS 180 and it came with a space saver which would not fit over the front brakes. So if you got a flat on the front you had no option but to put it on the rear and put the rear wheel on the front. Was a major pain in the ass!

Spoke to the dealer today (to complain about sales guys not getting in touch) and added a spare to the order - phew!

Added a spare wheel, even though it was "separate" the dealer honoured the option cost saying I could pay with debit card or cash!

Does the jack & other tools come with the spare, or is this another "Extra" that has to be ordered ? :)
