scratchs in paint work!

Featured Replies

Long story... looks like a group of people have been sat on my car with jeans on and the buttons on the back of them has destroyed my bonnet,

Its a 2011 skoda fabia, the colour is listed as magic black,

It looks like its taken the top coat off and your can see lots of white little chips every where,

Not even to mention where it looks like someone has put a fag out on it!

Only had this car a week, any advice about products i could use to get these out?

So p****d off!

Any advice please guys?

that much damage you may be looking at a respray of the bonnet

jealous neighbours? or you upset the local yoof?

I have a similar problem, but mine makes you want to take a hammer to all the windows as well and call it vandals. It's like someone's gone over the whole car with a yard brush and scratched it to death. I'm not so worried about the bodywork as they're only little polishable scratches (apart from one on the top of the bonnet which is like someone has used a scouring pad on it) but all the windows are scratched and you can struggle to see out of the back if the light is in the wrong place.

One word "cat", the little feckers clamber all over warm cars to get toasty and cold cars just for the sheer hell of it.

What happens when a careless cat meets a slippery bonnet -> this kind of damage.

Sorry it's not a fix, at the least it sounds like a touch up kit and a machine polish, at worst a spray.

Post any photos?  With flash and without?

Can you feel the marks with a finger nail?  That is usually a sign whether they can be rescued or not.

Black magic does seem to be the worst paint for showing up this kind of damage too.   But looks the mutts nuts when properly polished up!

Yeah you can feel them with a finger nail,

Can just see little white patchs everywhere,

Not mega deep and all less than a pea size,

But theres about 15!

Hmmm, doesn't sound good, but there is usually around 1mm to 1.5mm of clearcoat on the car, so if it's not gone deeper than this, there is always the chance to rescue it.  I have removed some nasty marks before, but I hate flirting with the end of the clearcoat layer....  Once broken through to basecoat, it's respray time!  :(

Was wondering if one of those halfords touch up kits would do the trick as they've got my colour in?

Nathan, if you go to a good local bodyshop they can tell you what needs to be done to remedy the situation and advice is free. It maybe that just a mopping over with some faraclay will do the job then a good coat of resin. If you are not used to using a power mop, don't do it yourself, but doing it by hand often won't work. My nephews bodyshop usually takes things like that out of a bonnet for free if it's a quick job. But, it may need a respray or at least, a new clearcote.

Sorry to hear about your plight, but you could try this stuff for the paintwork: http://www.chipex.co.uk/

It is very good and will cost a whole lot less than a respray.

If it was peeps sitting on the car, you are lucky they didn't crush in the crumple zone! Skoda warn you of this when even just closing the bonnet, suggesting "Dropping" the bonnet and not "Pushing" it to close! Sorry to hear about this, though. I had a muppet damage my passenger door, I think by pushing his against mine in a car park. No damage to paint but I had a guy who does paintless repairs say he can get most of the damage out but it may leave small signs due to being near the handle and more difficult to rectify... GRRR!
