Window misting problem solved :)

True. The air con doesn't affect the mpg. Not that I've noticed any difference.

Does having the aircon on noticeably affect the 'performance'?

Not at all.

Agree...its negligible

Our Citigo used to be parked facing uphill. When it rains, the moulding between the bonnet and windscreen filled with water and didn't drain away into the drain hole.

We now park the car facing downhill and it have gone a good way to solving the problem. It still mists up, but nowhere near as bad as before.

I don't think so. You can always kick pedal to the floor, and compressor shuts down for a while. If you need to overtake for example.

I'm starting to like the idea of silica gel holders. This is what I saw last night 2 minutes after starting, nothing.

I usually drive short trips and I guess that's the reason. Until now I have used salt (calcium chloride) based dehumidifiers in my cars, but looks like silica gel is more modern way.

I've seen some interesting test results recently (can't remember where, unfortunately) saying that using air-con in a smaller-engined car increases fuel consumption by 5 to 8%.  At lower speeds around town the difference is much greater...but when travelling at speed, there's hardly any difference. So the average over a whole mixed driving trip is 5 to 8%.

I would expect it to be like that in Finland, I mean it must be seriously cold there at the moment, or am I incorrect?

I can't see what all the fuss is about. Only in non air con equipped cars have I had problems with the windows clearing properly, all others with it no probs works a treat. I only remember in my previous Vauxhall the aircon needed a little help in clearing the windows when it was really icy cold, that was done by cracking the rear windows open about 1" it helped initially with the condensation, after that just close them. Of course we don't have the luxury of controlling the rear windows in the Citigo from the drivers seat so try it with the fronts.

If people dont feel the need or have the same problem that's great :)

Bit late into this thread, but I've posted elsewhere about '04 Mk 1 Fabia hatch condensation experience, and was able to greatly improve matters by wiping the five door seals once or twice a week with veg oil, they absorb it, it fattens them back up to nearer original profile. A small piece of sponge as applicator, plus a hummus tub to hold the oil (and a bigger lump of sponge to stop it all spilling!)

Pick your veg oil, loads of choices, use one whose aroma you enjoy!

Would you say Veg, sunflower, olive, ground nut or sesame oil would be best?

Thanks for the input Richard

My cars pretty new so not sure if it would do anything, but maybe worth a try

Cheers

If these door seals ARE rubber (as opposed to some rubber look-alike), I'm not sure I'd want any sort of oil on them!

The best stuff to rejuvenate rubber seals is Einszett Gummi Pflege ...very good results.

Also available on amazon and ebay....

...

About 1 celsius when that picture was taken.

I have had several cars and this isn't related brand or model of the car. All they do it sometimes. When engine is cold you just cannot get heat for windows. It is a law of nature, the moisture condenses on a cold surface. Reason why I took that picture is I saw those circles first time. And I don't like to use air con when it's cold because it takes longer to get warm car. I'm going to clean the windows any time soon. It always helps.

I just swapped to rubber mats hoping they dries faster. Not sure about that though.

I have never owned a car that I've not had rubber mats in...it just wouldn't feel right getting into a carpeted car with wet/muddy shoes...couldn't do it!

Rubber mats can be taken out easily and dried with a cloth when really wet...but carpets are just sponges holding on to all that water. Ugh!

I have, or should I say I had textile mats called Prestige for Citigo. Good looking and easy to maintain. Just brush and you get rid of dust and dirt. I cannot say does it let water through or not. I may test it some day.

OOPS!  I have received my parcel today containing the silica gel as recommended by Damo, in my hast to order them I did not realise that 1=2 bags so now I have 4    will be as dry as Arizona in the Fabia with all this silica drawing moisture from the air

So I bought a twin pack of these Silica gel holders off eBay for £15.99

doh!

Still, it might take 4 to dry out the Fabia :D

Well, I have had one pack in the Fabia and one in the Golf, now the Golf is stripped out and has the floor grommets removed so traps moisture badly, I went out in it today and there was no condensate on the windscreen!

Same for the Fabia, wife had left her fishing gear in the car, including a wet umbrella and no condensate on the windscreen.

 Excellent find Damo, thanks again.

Nice one James :)

Well that answers the question I had. I just ordered 1 pr to try for my Ocky but can do the Citigo as well. I first thought I had to order two like James I.

They works a treat Owens, I have one on the Fabia and the other in the Golf, as for the second pair    I have passed these on as a gift to a mate of mine with a Fabia and his wife has an A1 that also mists up.

The 1.5kg ones are no longer listed :(

ive bought some 1.1kg ones instead.

Yes mate, ive noticed he has put the price of the 1.1kg ones up now the colder weathers here :(

A pair of 1kg ones are £16 with free delivery on Amazon - just bought some as wifeys Citigo has just been afflicted by the white screen of blindness the last couple of days.  Doesn't help she only does very short trips..
