Very nice! Are the alloys a pain to clean up, or are they ok?

Absolutely fine. I can even pass the cleaning stuff through the wheel without having to take them off. :D

Recently picked it up. Came from a Mk 2, diesel, manual to this 1.4 TSI DSG. Awesome!

Also came from Silver to Black, so going from a car that never looked dirty to one that you only have to go near to look like it needs another wash :)

Having had a Black Mk2 Golf GTI, I can confirm that black is not a colour, it's a hobby! :notme:

Gaz

6 hours of detailing.

Should have taken some better pics really

Not just dirt, either - once you've waxed and polished, good luck getting rid of the polish marks!

Last three cars were black - not going back to that anytime soon!

Having said that, once cleaned, it looked superb!

Not at all, I find detailing really relaxing. I'd happily spend more if the accelerator control unit (wife) would let me. But she was pretty cool with this session as I only took delivery of it a week ago.

Not including curing time, I did some gardening what that was going on.

Also the clay and compound didn't take too long as it wasnt too bad so I only did the bad bits.

you should get the new clay mitt in halfords, it really does what it says on the tin. easily the best detailing item i have in my bag.

The clay mitt is good for a quick ‘clay fix’ but a bar is more thorough and removes more.

I personally prefer the bar as is can be worked in smaller and tighter areas and be manipulated into the perfect shape.

The main drawback is it takes a lot longer of course. The mitt covers areas much quicker.

When you have used that clay lube save yourself some dosh and fill a bucket with strong shampoo mix.

Might have to invest in one for the bonnet and roof but keep the bar for the more detailed panels

Clearly not a member on detailing world. Keep it that way, it's a slippery slope to spending countless hours stroking your paintwork.

AG - Auto Glym

SRP - super resin polish

EGP - extra gloss protection

Megs - meguires

RD - Rapid detailer

S+C - shampoo and conditioner

ITD - instant tyre dressing

CW - clean wheels

Stick to the bucket and sponge my friend

No decontamination (tar remover, Iron-X) prior to clay bar..?

I've run out of iron x sco3ott.

And have always found a hair dryer and a clay bar gets rid of tar. As does wd40 if you a really desperate. Just give it a polish and Wax after

Thank you Edd, my current alloys are pain to do, so it’s good to hear they’re ok.
