Frozen Columbus

Featured Replies

Help !  Help !

I got in the car this morning and connected my iphone via the bluetooth and thought nothing of it but after pulling away I noticed that although my phone was showing on the dashboard it hasn't showing on the Columbus unit. As far as my phone was concerned it was playing.

When I got to work I found that the columbus was frozen on the Media screen and wasn't responding to any of the side buttons (radio, phone, etc). I tried turning it on and off but no joy.

Has anyone experienced the same ? Is there a hard reset option if it get stuck.

I'm over in Germany but will be travelling back for Christmas at the end of next week so would like my sat nav please

Take it to the German dealers as long as you have still got the warranty, they will fix it as a warranty claim same as UK. They renewed my battery last year under warranty and my car was bought in the UK.

I believe it's not quite factory reset since no user settings are lost/reset. It is rather soft reset (OS reboot) - quite safe and welcome in situations like this as first step to debug wrong behaviour. I may be wrong though.

Got in my car yesterday and the unit came on but in German ! just thought it was a simple change of the language but then everything was frozen nothing would work, i have seen on forums that this has happened to other users. The re-set and did not work and i am now typing this sat in Blade Skoda, Gloucester who have said the whole unit will have to be replaced. Luckily still under warrenty as i have 2 months left, phew I dont have to find £2.5K for a new one

My Columbus froze this morning. I got home from the supermarket and the radio kept on playing even after turning the engine off and getting out of the car. The screen was going off, like it had shut down, but the radio continued playing. I tried restarting car and playing around with buttons and settings. Nothing. Wouldn't play the CD, or play any other radio stations even though the screen display was changing appropriately. I also noticed when I tried to adjust the volume it had 'voice' there. So I checked the manual in case I had accidentally activated the voice control, which I have never used but nothing worked. I end up unpacking the shopping and then driving to my local dealer. They had a look and said it had frozen and did a reboot for me.

I will try to remember the soft reset, in case this happens again, which I suspect it might!
