Sound Generator in vRS

Featured Replies

Is it possible to disable this pointless piece of junk in Normal mode as it's bloody irritating & really starting to spoil the car for me.

Yes, unplug it.

Just out of interest, is it the sound you hate or the fact that it's faux engine noise?

Does the diesel vRS come with this in it?

The fact is with the noise dampener on the underside of bonnet you hardly hear the engine running at all with the windows open, yet this infernal piece of junk spoils the interior ambience altogether.

I think it can be disabled with VCDS

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling

I've not had the privilege of driving the VRS yet, but if it is anything like the sound generator in the latest Audi S3 then it is boomy and horrible. That's one of the worse cars I've driven by the way, apart from the nasty artificial sound the engine has dreadful turbo lag. How could VW / Audi get it so wrong? The A3 with the 180 bhp diesel - same as the vRS is a far nicer car to drive.

Ta,

Don't let it detract from all the positive-yeah just disconnect it .Doesn't need a fan fare, as I'm sure there are others who think it's perfectly fine.

Personal issue ,personal choice!

How easy is it to disconnect please? Any implications?

+1

Just pull the plug off it, no implications.

Fabulous thanks.  I'm quite looking forward to it, but it's good to know that I can 'lose' if it becomes annoying

It's barely noticeable unless in Sport and even then if you didn't know it was 'artificial' you'd just think thats the cars natural sound.

I haven't heard it in a diesel VRS but on my TSI in Sport the sound is far more than just "barely noticeable"! You'd think I'm running some race tuned V8 by the sound of it. Obviously fake!

Agreed.

I test drove a petrol VRS and stopped to put it into Sport to hear the generator and found it was already on high! Don't think it's that bad at all, but that is coming from a MkII diesel.

It's ok, kinda makes me smile!

I actually liked it in the Tdi, made the diesel sound a bit sportier.

Didn't notice it in normal and never had it in Eco on my test drives.

I liked the noise on my tsi test drives, although anything sounds better than the diesels I'm used too

Am I right in thinking this is disabled if you have the Canton system installed?

No, it has nothing to do with the speakers, separate box under the hood.

Hmm. Interesting. Can't say I've noticed any artificial sound thus far.

Whether you like it or not depends on the sounds you've been used to I guess.... Not heard it in the vRS so I can't pass judgement I just hope it is not as abysmal as the Audi S3.
