Sound Generator in vRS

Featured Replies

Only the very early models didn't come with one if you had the "VRS/Mode" button. Every other VRS since then that comes with that button (it's an option in some countries) also comes with the sound generator.

For the odd long leisurely journey? Great feature if doing long motorway run surely
To be honest if fuel was no concern I'd not have a 2.0 anyway

Well, if you're cruising then Eco mode does diddly squat as the mechanical power-train doesn't change when you switch modes, so the car's efficiency is identical in both modes. Eco mode can bring lower consumption only when you keep accelerating/decelerating, as it will alter the shift points for the gearbox in a DSG, alter the throttle response and use coasting on DSGs (when there's no throttle input). If you think about it, at constant speed (using CC for example), changing between Eco/Normal/Sport shouldn't change your instant consumption as nothing actually changes in that scenario.

  • Yes, though unless in Sport its barely noticeable.

  • The false revving & raunchiness of it, at 2000rpm, it's not going to sound like a boy racer in his Ford ST or Vauxhall Astra, now is it?   The fact is with the noise dampener on the underside of

Actually no as Eco also lowers power output of aircon/climate so will have an effect.

Just because some don't want it doesn't mean others won't

As I say if fuel was no object I wouldn't pick a 2.0

How much of a difference in fuel consumption do you think the lowered output of the aircon is going to make at 80 mph? But we're nitpicking here. :)

The best solution would've been to have a slider in the multimedia system's settings page, just like you get with the subwoofer or interior lights. This way people can tweak to their own preference or turn it completely off. It's funny how I can change how bright my foot-well lights are, but not the sound generator.

Eco also switches off AFS if you have xenons.

Nice summary may be easier to compare all settings.

Interesting what does the sound generator sound like in "individual" mode? why is there a "-" above? off maybe?

I drive the car in Individual mode and it's definitely still on, you can hear it even in normal slow traffic throttle input.

No.  In individual under the option "Engine" you can choose "Eco, Normal or Sport" so the SG changes with those.

That is the annoying bit, as sometimes it would be good to have the firmer steering with the slightly better throttle response, without the extra noise.

I test drove a petrol and diesel vRS months back, neither had this sound generator. Never heard it I'm starting to worry that it's going to be a right pain.

If you haven't got it, consider it a benefit.

The good thing is that it is not hard to get to and disconnect.

Is there a picture anywhere of exactly where you can disconnect it? The whole area under the bonnet scares me, to be honest - I tend to top it up with water when needed and shut it quickly!

Asked my dealer to switch it off before I collected, as seemed a pretty naff idea, particularly on a Diesel vRS.

Picked the car up Saturday, to be told 'you can't switch it off mate'.

Having done 1000 miles in the car now, the noise makes me laugh - but loving it ! (yeh, sad, I know !)

Search, there is a thread with photos, from around January iirc

Actually your dealer is just plain lazy or uninformed. There's two ways of doing it, hardware or software...

But dealers can only do things the official Skoda way, and neither of then are.

I know of at least one case of a dealer using the hardware method, just unplugging it.

When I have mine in either sport or drive it sounds like a 3.6 v6 with 335 bhp, oh wait, thats because I have that under the bonnet, one of the reasons I did not want a Mk3 that and the fake puny exhausts pushed in to a big aperture

Oh you mean like a MB CLA 45 AMG:

Or a MB S550:

Maybe a MB C63 AMG Black Series:

You want me to keep going? Not the best reason not to like a car I'd say...

The 63 is the real deal but the 45, even if it is tuned to hell only has a 2 litre , the VRS has tiny tiny exhausts like a 1.2 punto. Also the AMGs do not need sound generators, especially the V8s, ( Im saving now

They can, thanks to the heads up from members on here on how to do it via VCDS, I gave that info to the master tech and the official dealer software can do it once they are pointed in the right direction ;)

I never even tried "sport " mode as I didn't want that noise, suprising how much less noise there is even in normal mode now .... to the point I can notice wind noise at 60 instead of 80 !

Still loving mine so far

Sorry bluer36, I had a silver R36 for over a year and can tell you that my VRS TSI's exhausts aren't far off the diameter of my R36 so not sure where you're coming from on this and I am talking about the actual exhaust diameter,...

Edited by Telboy5

Well the R36 are 3.5 inch in diameter. The vRS look about 1.5

Well, got mine now, jury's out. Not sure. It does sound great in sport. But I am getting that annoying buzz at a certain resonance.

Might have it disabled if it starts to pi$$ me off. I do like it on the downshifts, as it replicates double de clutch blip. Nice touch.
