Sound Generator in vRS

Featured Replies

Anyone have any pictures of the unit and the plug to pull on a TSI?

Also, a note for anyone that has an early car, the demo TSI estate I had from the dealers for a few weeks didn't have the sound generator. The dealer even commented my car sounded louder than their demo when I picked it up.

So for those that cant notice it, you may not have it.

  • Yes, though unless in Sport its barely noticeable.

  • The false revving & raunchiness of it, at 2000rpm, it's not going to sound like a boy racer in his Ford ST or Vauxhall Astra, now is it?   The fact is with the noise dampener on the underside of

No, it has nothing to do with the speakers, separate box under the hood.

It is deleted if you spec the canton, either that or they forgot to add the sound generator to my TDI VRS

It has been discussed before and it's not deleted if you have canton as it's nothing to do with speakersinfotainment, it's a part in the engine bay.

Yours must be faulty.....

Ah the thread I found on here never really answered the question 100% I just re read it.

Can you turn the generator off in individual driving mode?

No, the only time it's on it's lowest setting is in Eco but even on Normal it's hardly noticeable, it's is louder in Sport but doesn't sound bad at all.

Ok thanks, that's probably why I thought I didn't have it as I have been driving around on Eco all weekend.

Cheers for the help.

I'm currently trying to get my dealer to turn this off. At the moment I am back in the demo car (which was the one I test drove before buying) while mine is having a problem fixed. The demo car has no sound generator noise and is so much better for it so I am hoping my car gets returned sans sound.

I've had mine only 23hrs now and I love the sound generator.

Whilst 'messing around' with the modes I'd left in sport by mistake. The 'engine' sounded great.

Well if you drive a TVR at least you know how glorious the infernal combustion engine can sound!

Why did they bother with it?  Really?

Had mine a week and don't mind be sound generator at all.

Seems to be VAG "thing" - even the latest generation Porsche 911 is fitted with one - except the glorious new GT3 thankfully.

Just makes me want to go out n drive

I've not had the privilege of driving the VRS yet, but if it is anything like the sound generator in the latest Audi S3 then it is boomy and horrible. That's one of the worse cars I've driven by the way, apart from the nasty artificial sound the engine has dreadful turbo lag. How could VW / Audi get it so wrong? The A3 with the 180 bhp diesel - same as the vRS is a far nicer car to drive.

Seems that none if the motoring journos agree with u lol

Does seem odd and pointless

I haven't tried or tested it, but from memory it is the only adaptation channel on the sound generator.

Sent from my phone so please excuse brevity and spelling

My friend has a vcds and yes, only the sound generator was on that channel. I didn't like the sound, so we set the volume to 0% and that turned the thing off. Maybe I'll try it again on a lower setting later.

Was there a noticeable difference between it being off and having it on normal?

I think the lower setting really isn't too bad, but the higher one sounds a bit over the top and brings out anything that could possibly rattle or vibrate anywhere near the dash. I might see if there is someone willing with CCDs near me to turn it down in all modes.

please can anyone help how sound generator sounds....
