Keyed

Featured Replies

I went out this morning to find some utter b*****d has keyed my bonnet. I've only has the car for 2 months. :@

It's a couple of inches long and goes through to the primer. The question is, can I just get the scratch repaired or am I looking at a full bonnet respray?

  • Sorry to hear this to your pride and enjoy spacenase.  I agree with everybody else, I think a full respray will give the best results.  People are s..mbags plain and simple.  Like to catch them at it,

  • Many thanks everyone for your kind responses. If I ever see them doing it again, I'll be trying to arrange a hospital visit for them.   I've found a couple of other cars further down the road that

Absolute scum bags!

It's going to need respraying to get it back to 100% i'm afraid....

very sorry to hear that.

what is it with some people that they have to do that sort of stuff. is it envy, jealousy or just plain hatred of something nice.

I hope you get it sorted without too much hassle and get back to enjoying your car!

It's just jealousy, plain and simple.

Really sorry to read this, I hope you manage to get this resolved without too much hassle.

I was worried about this when my Octavia arrives, as my current car which is nothing special has been done several times, I live near a school and I am sure it's the kids doing it.

What a scum bag - don't worry, I'm sure what goes around will come around.

Hope it's not too expensive to get it sorted.

Thanks for the replies, it'll take me a couple of days to stop fuming! :@  :@

I thought it would probably be a full respray. I'll have to see what the cost is and decide whether to go through the insurance.

I just wish someday I get my hands on one of these idiots...

Miserable sh1tes!!!

Unfortunately you will need the bonnet resprayed if you want it perfect, if you just touch it up it will still be visible as red seems to show up all scratches.

As above, respray to be perfect, but if its just 2" long and not the full length of a panel, it might be worth trying a basecoat, then lacquer touch-up, then wet sand back and polish the whole area, just to see if it improves things slightly, and saves some pennies.

Wonder why it was only 2" - that's not the usual effort of someone keying a car - usually its more like 32"

I really feel for you as paranoia sets in of why, what next, etc.

it could of been a number of reasons why the bird brain who did it from jealousy to a drunken laugh. I remember years ago when I was a kid my dad had a big old Volvo 740, nice car at the time. That got keyed, so my dad got it repaired through his insurance only for it to get keyed in exactly the same place, so he repaired it again, guess what, yep someone keyed it again in the same place. So he left it, never bothered to get it repaired and had to live with touched in with a touch up pen.

You will probably never be able to find out why and who, but I hope that when it is repaired that is the end of it.

Just remember, keep positive and never forget it's still YOUR car and regardless to what the idiot did only you can drive it and enjoy it.

Gutted for you, I'm with everybody else thought Met. paint is a full respray to get it right, one panel might just not be the right shade either, street lights at night show these kinda things.

Regards

T

Are you guys talking 'full respray' as in the entire car? Surely just the affected panel is enough?

Sorry to hear about this, it's ****ed me off, bet it's worse for you :(

My mother had one entire side of her new Fiesta keyed deeply. Her insurance covered without loss of NCB, but she did have to pay the first £100 excess. The respray job was faultless and everything looks as good as new.

Vandalism cover is becoming more popular these days, I've had it on my last 2 cars and thankfully not had to use it.

God some people are just utter scum. So sorry I would be gutted and absolutely fuming as well. Hope however it gets fixed is not too costly for you

scumbags....is there any way you can set up a CCTV system to cover where you park your car ?

Bonnet respray anywhere between £250-350

That's really pi**ed me off so I can only guess how you feel. The bonnet must be just about the worst place for these morons to damage.

If you haven't considered it already chips away might be worth a punt. They seem to work as franchises so I'd check the quality/feedback of the individual concerned otherwise it's likely to be a full respray of the boonet.

I had a big stone chip done on my front wing and a local indy respayer resprayed the whole pannel for me for £200, so that's another option.

The local VAG approved repairer wanted £500.

IMO it's not worth even contacting the insurance company for anything less than £1000 as it'll cost you more vis back door premium hikes and your excess in the long run.

good luck and as above might be worth getting some CCTV to cover your car when it's parked up

All the best

Sorry to hear this spacenase - get it to a local bodyshop as they will be the best to advise.

My dad had a small dent/scrape repaired on a 1 month old car, all done properly at a bodyshop, cost him about £250 and a year later you still can't tell.

ChipsAway are good for a repair if you need it doing quickly, but I have found that a couple of years or so down the line you can see the repair as the paint ages differently.

I used a local bodyshop for my old Chrysler and they did a very good job, so I'll go and see them.

Really sorry to hear that - why do these mindless toe-rags do these things? It might be jealousy - assume you've told the police but you'll get a crime reference should you decide to claim on your insurance...
