Does my ABS sensor hole look okay or is it dirty / damaged?

Featured Replies

Hey.

Basically i'm getting a fault at the front right for my abs sensor so today I removed it however it was totally jammed in there so I had to drill it out.

I've tried to remove all the parts that were left over and it had quite a bit of sludge in there which may have been giving me my fault. This is it now, was just wondering if it all looks okay in there, clean enough for the new sensor to work? Or does it have to be literally as new. Not really sure!

Thank you :)

Clean the ring with a cotton bud dipped in methylated spirits first and then re-test.

I'm starting to think my bearing might have slid out giving me the error on Vagcom. Arggh so confused.

I noticed the other day my o/s suspension assembly caked in grease, so maybe the bearing has come out abit and thats made the grease come out of the CV joint? Although there is no binding when spinning the wheel like this, very free moving.

Either that or the grease has got all over the ABS sensor giving me this fault.

Really not sure how it's supposed to look in there and not prepared to look at the other as it will break off like this one did haha

Has the outer CV joint gator split?

Pretty certain it has mate yes, although I couldn't see a laceration but didn't look too close.

The gator gets compressed and stretched with each revolution of the wheel and I so it tends to break in one of the dips in the corrugated section. I would suspect wear and tear on the gator rather that the hub causing it.

Ahh excellent, thanks for that :)

I'm really hoping it's just the sensor that's knackered and nothing else. Can't afford to be removing the bearing again etc.

I would check that your brake pads aren't contaminated with grease.  If they are they will need to be changed.  If the gator has only just split then you will only need to change the gator and repack the joint with grease.  If you leave it then the joint will be damaged and need to be replaced.

I had a cv gator split and the grease got on the brakes which lead to a very scary moment on the motorway.
