  • Not completely sold on the nose regs for this year either, but some interesting designs came out however can't say Im sold on the ones that are just blatantly appendages (eg TorroRosso or ForceIndia).

What a mental race! On the edge of my seat the whole time fantastic. Hamilton from pit lane to 3rd, Alonso done a great job and I think my driver of the day has to be Ricciardo, just massively impre

and they've replaced him with the North American Car Sales Director??

But maybe with Ross Brawn for the future? That'd be interesting!

But maybe with Ross Brawn for the future? That'd be interesting!

My thoughts to.

Whether any new team boss could do much with this seasons car is debatable.

Bob Bell (technical director) is leaving Mercedes and wont be replaced!! The world has gone mad

^^ He resigned in December last year.

They will not replace him, there will be no Technical Director.

Maybe Ross is waiting in the wings for a new position? :)

For Ferrari or Mercedes?

My money would be Brawn heading to Italy

He'd still be an asset for either team I'm sure. It would be nice to see him back at Ferrari wouldn't it :)

Ferrari - It's not the first time they've sacked the manager (or a driver) mid-season, and I'd bet the mortgage that it won't be the last.

VMB - The FIA ruling makes some sort of sense in terms of "policing the rules", but is still a complete nonsense. As discussed previously, the fuel flow out of the tank doesn't make engine power.

I wish they'd just give them a fixed amount of fuel and let them get on with it. I remember the days when the original turbo cars used to run out of fuel if they used too much boost during the race (I suspect that wouldn't happen very often these days). it would add to the racing as long as the 'fuel used' graphic was dropped from the free to air (TV) feed :D

I tend to agree - this would have been my preferred implementation.

I thought the rules limited each driver to 100kg per race.

I thought the rules limited each driver to 100kg per race.

The discussed "fuel flow rate" limitation is in addition to the fixed mass per race.

Wasn't there talk of a random fuel load at the end of last year?

I know when first mooted there was talk of rewarding teams that finished full distance with the most amount of fuel left

Just wish the new cars made some noise. Can't beat a V8 even though Mark Webber said on a cookery programme that it was now old tech and that they should be into battery regeneration and more sustainable means of going around the track.

I disagree, I think they sound better, especially with the turbo whine on some cars, Williams particularly.

I have wanted for as long as I can remember, wanting the rules to be - big sticky tyres, minimal downforce and as much power through the back wheels as the teams can muster. Nigel Mansell would have been even more EPIC on a charge :)

I'm old enough to have watched F1 in the 70s and this is exactly what they were like, and it was utterly mesmerising watching them drifting through the old Woodcote Corner at Silverstone.

I remember them on telly and saw them (through work) from the early 80s onwards (never the same after the Williams semi active suspension imho :( ).Qualifying was astonishing, with teams turning the engines up to 11 and junking them after on flying lap :)

What I propose though, is the modern application of POOOOWWEERRRRRR in the best Clonkson manner, ie way too much of it and not like the days of the 1.5 turbos,, but in a more power and torque everywhere in the rev range way.  Brilliant.

Of course the fuel allowance would have to double/Triple, but the teams cold plant a certain number of trees based on how much fuel was left at the end of the race. Everyone is happy :) Well I would be and that's all that matters really

I don't mind the current regs myself but I'd totally be up for watching that. But only if the tannoy plays a recording of Clarkson saying "yeess" as the engines start, and then *obviously* "POWERRRRR" at the start, to replace Murray's classic "GO GO GO!"

In fact lets go the whole hog and let Clarkson commentate. He'd be useless, but at least it would be 'different' and we could have James for giving us the technical bits of interest, or just telling Jeremy to shut up.  Oh and the Hamster could get tea for the crew

In the Alain Prost and Nigel days weren't they 3.5 litre ones that had virtually no electronic wizzardry and simply had to be driven; I've watched it for as long as I can remember and I think it's what they're going back towards I believe, but without that glorius sound track. Some may like it - I think it's pants.

Mansell's Williams had semi-active suspension which blitzed the opposition. Iirc the Lotus had fully active suspension and did away with springs, in fact I am sure I read an article once that said it was too good for the tyres and they couldn't generate enough heat in them.

But just imagine, super sticky tyres, about the same areo as a modern supercar and about 2,000bhp. They might need more sets of tyres though and a really big fuel tank :)

And bigger run off areas for when it all goes wrong
