I've just watched a Youtube video on AOL's news page.

It was about the different F1 engine noise over the last 10 years or so....

Wow, that V12 Ferrari. :p

The V10 and V8's were pretty good as well.

As for the V6 turbo's. :S

  • Not completely sold on the nose regs for this year either, but some interesting designs came out however can't say Im sold on the ones that are just blatantly appendages (eg TorroRosso or ForceIndia).

What a mental race! On the edge of my seat the whole time fantastic. Hamilton from pit lane to 3rd, Alonso done a great job and I think my driver of the day has to be Ricciardo, just massively impre

My fav is the V10's, followed by the current units. Love the turbo noise of them.

Liked this little video of alonso lol!

Hahahahahaha thats hilarious. Was good to see him on the podium today, also amusing seeing Vettel throw his toys out the pram again :D

I was waiting for Horner to radio to Vettel 'don't be silly Seb' when he didn't want to let Ricciardo pass him.

The difference in the post race interviews between Vettel last year and Hamilton this year is a breath of fresh air. Last year with a dominant car Vettel would say things like 'it wasn't easy, there were some problems etc' when he knew the car was far superior to the rest of the field.

This year Hamilton & Mercedes are in a dominant position at present, but Hamilton tells you the car is fantastic and he knows he is driving at the top of his game. His confidence is high, but he also knows things can change.

When vettel won races last year I would mute the sound when the team radio came on at the end of the race as I couldn't stand the whooping and cheering over the radio as if he was surprised he had won. This year Hamilton is more of 'well done to the team' and team is a 'well done Lewis, great drive' all done in a fairly calm tone.

So did we underestimate Ricciardo or is Vettel not as good as everyone thought?

I think the exhaust blown diffuser of the previous seasons cars suited Vettel and he learnt how to get the maximum out of it (Webber couldn't drive it the same way and suffered as a result).

This years rule changes means Vettel's driving style doesn't work any more and he needs to relearn his driving as a consequence. Riccardo hasn't any pressure on him and has obviously adapted to the new car rules better.

Whether Vettel can turn things around this season (or next for that matter) will decide if he is a true driving legend or just a one trick pony.

It will be interesting to see what enhancements the teams take to Barcelona. They have a three week gap and if any team is going to make a step change in their fortunes for this season, Barcelona is where they'll need to show significant development progress.

I can see McLaren and Ferrari making big gains when the circus lands in Europe.

I think Williams will do much better than in recent years, but I think it'll be next year before we see them making real gains

That statement, or variations on it, has been made by several "informed sources".

All back on this weekend at the Spanish GP:

I can see Mercedes' lead being under threat. Usually once the circus lands in Europe, most bring a lot of upgrades.

The cars for the opening rounds left weeks before the season opener, and stayed out there until the break.

I see lots of gains in the middle field, hopefully for Williams.

Ferrari look the team most likely to improve, but Mercedes might also bring upgrades and up to now they don't appear to have been pushing the car to it's limits during the races.

If the first days practice sessions are anything to go by it doesn't look like anything has changed!

Teams are well known to run lower power to fool the competition.  They dont want to show all their trump cards before Charlie presses the go button

He's having a stinker this weekend isn't he?

I was surprised Lewis got pole, from Q1 and Q2 it looked like Nico had him beat today.

Hahahahahaha, looks like Merc are still ahead. Lewis pulled it out the bag today, I'm looking forward to seeing if he stays ahead long term or if he is just on a roll. I reckon Lewis has the edge on him for out and out pace but time will tell.

As for the bulls, I was chuffed to see Ricciardo was spanking Vettel even before his car packed up :D I genuinely think he (Danny) could be a good long term prospect tbh, seems very calm and collected when he needs to be.

Hopefully Bottas pulls a nice drive out the bag tomorrow too.

Watched the race on BBC highlights - was OK, nothing really spectacular, give or take a few positions it was pretty much to form & the grid.

Looking forward to Monaco now - although will probably go to pole sitter (Lewis?)

Am so desperate for Lewis to slip up a little and Nico win for a change. Another "Home" victory for him again this year, perhaps?

Hamilton must be odds on for a home win definitely - the other teams really need to step it up to catch Merc otherwise they are just going to walk away with it a la Red Bull. Is that what we want?

Maldonado on the other hand has racked up another penalty point for his collision with Ericsson, that's four in total - his team really must have to carry loads of spares to help him out:

Mercedes are walking away with this even more than Red Bull ever did. It's terrifying really. Their car is superior and every circuit, by a significant amount!

The saving grace is you know the Merc drivers are (currently) allowed to race each other right to the flag. That was never the case with the Red Bull drivers no matter how much they try to tell us any different.

What's concerning about the Merc dominance is it's not just the Merc engine, but the entire car seems vastly superior (McClaren have the same power unit, and are nowhere). I can't remember this kind of differential since Brawn GP / double diffuser, but that time it didn't take long for the others to catch up (partly because Brawn had no cash to keep developing the car), I'm not sure if the chasing pack will get so close so quickly this time.

In terms of the scale of the dominance the only other thing I can remember is the McLarens lapping the entire field in a race once, I think it was Hakkinnen/Coulthard in the opening race at Melbourne one year? I can't remember how long McLaren's dominance lasted that year though.

Is Adrian Newey going to Ferrari ?  He said he likes "holidays in Italy" and I'm guessing he wouldn't mind a company 612 Scagiletti or whatever it's called.

I think that was simply a cheeky reply to the rumour mill
