Keep that vw messed with rubbish!! I've got a proper Skoda made 1.3 spi at home.......

maybe its worth another thread?

back to FGF related madness, I have pulled some connectors out of the Corrado's OEM loom but im not sure it will actually be of any use at all now. Only reason i wanted it was to see where the ECU patched into it, which i quickly worked out without the OEM loom. (so it could have been left on the car)

Body loom or engine loom?

We are doing an engine swap. ;)

Oops :wall:

It just had a few joins into the OEM loom, IIRC it was a feed for the coolant temp sensor, Tacho Signal and then a Ignition 12V feed.

So it wasnt needed. but i took it with the plan of reusing some of the loom, but i decided against that as it one of the connectors i wanted to reuse was the Radiator Fan connector, problem was it would involve soldering high current cable. which is difficult for a start, and the 2nd thing is High Current = heat = melt your solder. Hence why high current or safety joints (such as earthing in mains equipment) is always crimped rather than soldered, as the crimp will maintain a join at high temperatures. (circa 183 deg Celsius for lead based solder)

And flexibility?

Could always tin your cables before you crimp them. Would reduce the effect of corrosion so keep resistance low, but give a good tight connection on your crimp

Meh, depends on positioning and application. Yes soldering does work harden the copper, leading to breaks in the wire in high vibration/movement areas. Tinning does much of the same thing, so Tinning and then crimping IMO is just as bad as soldering

But if its lets say you solder a join in the middle of a straight bit of cable (such as across the bulkhead inside) and is cable tied in the loom 30mm either side of the joint then its not going to move much, even in high g-force FGF based maneuvers.

but if its in the middle of the engine loom right where the it mounts onto the engine block, then your going to have a bad day.

I know, I found out in Yorkshire :( good luck with all of these wires

Piece of **** :)

Made a few cable harness at work with Aircraft 38999 connectors some with 100+ pins at each end, now that takes the patience of a saint!  :D

That wire that was seriously corroded, did we find out what that was for?

Just a ground lol

Good price.

I have the slightly thinner set ffrom Plastics4Performance with a non-scratch coating and it was around the £400 mark.

Darkside use them on their cars

So I thought I would drop in on the Skoda Chop shop today as I was delivering a new car about a mile away, and there was no sign of life!! At 8.55 or 10.30am. So only a half hearted effort going on then !!!!

Why does the Fabia Haynes manual have an FGF on the front, stupid idea for promoting the book.
