Richard's mk1 Fabia thread. (Yes, I have a mk1 Fabia problem...)

Featured Replies

Been messing around with the Clocks today, got them powered up, worked out how to switch off warning lamps etc, however the fuel gauge isnt working!

its supposed to be wired to ground through a potentiometer who's resistance varies the level of the fuel gauge. But i cant get it to move! May test a few more bits later.

Also the Coolant level/Tacho looks like its CAN BUS controlled, which is do-able with the ECU, (but may need to be programmed). Also the immobiliser light keeps flashing, so provided that doesnt interfere with the operation of the clocks, the LED will just be removed :)

the last thing to do will be to work out how to illuminate the back light to the dials. then im happy :D

Functions so far:

Oil Pressure Warning

Coolant Level Warning

Handbrake Light

Fogs, Dip and Main beam lamps.

Fuel Lamp (in progress with Fuel Gauge)

as its from a Classic, without MFD, its quite basic :D

As far as I can remember mate the immobiliser led will do nothing. It will just flash. My cousin had his keys stolen last year. Got a locksmith to cut and code new key but had to take the immo chip out the cluster and said it would flash Diddnt effect anything on the dash. So I presume it would be ok to just remove the led.

It's not like the cars going to be a daily driver! Haha.

Any news from Richard when the engine mounts are turning up?

I think he ordered them but when they are supposed to be turning up, I don't know

No, my mk3 Ibiza shat its third gearbox so i needed a cheap replacement and Shaftesbury is only 20 minutes away lol. Its pretty sound for 140k miles, just needs new headlights as one is snapped and a new clutch (think it's original 140k old) i like the colour too

If you want to take a chance I have the flywheel and clutch from the 1.4MPI I engine/box I broke. Probably original so around 90k :P

The brackets, shafts etc.. To allow fitting should be here next week hopefully.

Unless all the bank holidays slows things down.

Sorry is that for the fabia? I only ask as my ibiza is a 1.4 mpi haha. I think i am going to buy a new clutch, want it to be sound for a long while

Got a gearbox, clutch and fly from a 1.4MPI. Can't give them away it seems :( Don't think the Ibiza can be an MPI as it was a Skoda only (crappy old tech era) engine.

Found a home for the wrc kit?

I wonder what a black magic evil Fabia would look like in rally spec :D

It would be totally awesome!

But it is a lot of work.

Winter project?

PM me. :D

Yes a lot of work, which is a little beyond my abilities sadly.

Kit, fitting and respray hmmm

PM him ;) would look stunning IMO especially with the evil front end. You'll need to look at extending wheel track but shouldn't be too hard tbh.

Looks like I'll be keeping the spacers after all :D

Iirc it's about 50mm to bring it out to be equalish with arches but I'm sure Lee or Mr Fox can advise more accurately

True.

And there is no way I'd run 50mm spacers on track so you'd need to look at other VAG arms etc... To widen it.

Tricky project.

Many sleepless nights.

A lot of fun.

Octy parts run about 78mm wider so it's very doable to modify these parts and there's always going to people about who are able to fabricate these things, may be worth Charlie chatting to the lot working on the Yeti if he doesn't know of anyone as they'll more than definitely know being in the trade.

Alternatively find wider wheels with a low et?

Would widening the track involve different suspension too? I haven't got the foggiest :D

Depends what method you use.

Depending how far you go with stripping the corrado would I be able to take the coilovers from it? Read up somewhere that they fit the felicia.... Well the rears do apparently but may be able to do something with the fronts aswell.

Edit: I may have a little list.
