Richard's mk1 Fabia thread. (Yes, I have a mk1 Fabia problem...)

Featured Replies

Yes I'm there tomorrow too :)

Plan is to drop the tiny 1.4 exhaust out and then focus on pulling out the 1.8t we need space for more stuff so the sooner the corrado is gone the better.

If the mounts turn up and everything goes to plan. The engine should be in end of play tomorrow (as in mounted. Ready for ancillaries )

So far however it has taken two casualties :

1 10mm 1/4" socket. Fallen down with the fuel lines and is in the chassis rail (but as a gesture of goodwill Halfords are replacing it. Win!)

And one Casio watch strap

Lol :D

Wow,great progress for a day :) well done Taylor :)

Thanks Charlie. The dash is completely out just have the wiring loom and bits to remove (trying to remove it intact rather than someone's method of cutting every thing off lol

Oh and does anyone know anything about corrado's? I haven't got a clue. This is the first I've ever seen in the flesh haha

Engine and gearbox mounts should arrive in the morning.
So the engine can be located correctly.
Need to source downpipe, driveshafts, upgraded dog bone mount and a few odds and ends.

After this two days of graft (mostly on Taylor's part as I have business to run which gets in the way...) we'll have a Fabia with an engine sitting in it.

Which means during January we can get the additional parts, get the wiring sorted and get it running hopefully.

The Corrado is donating mostly under bonnet parts, seats and harnesses.

It would be amazing if was ready to be removed tomorrow, but it's a big ask.

I can help in between Xmas and New Years, have a couple of days off then.. as well as the odd weekend in between.

Heres an Impromptu Video i filmed at 6:06am this morning :D

edit:

I will say overall i am very impressed with the condition of this car, considering its 14 years old, things such as the drive shaft nuts were the original, early models had a nut which could only be removed with like a 19mm allen key style head, rather than the 36mm 12 point Nut/Socket used on the vRS. This was improvised with a bolt with a 19mm head, and then two nuts tightened together (back to back) which allowed me to use a normal 19mm socket to crack loose the drive shaft nuts. But most things on it looked original. So until it was crashed, it had done well to last 14 years. Good old 1.4 MPI! :D

I have a super pro dog bone bush if you wanted it Richard :)

Which one is this, the parts car?

"was" the parts car yes :P

and the work doesnt stop :P

Me being me, while eating my dinner i was also labeling up the loom from the OEM dials, so i know what goes where. Just have to hope the ECU in the Corrado has a CAN Bus connection, otherwise the Dial wont show the RPMs....

If it doesn't, cut the rpm section out and use a digital gauge :D

If it fits, I'll have it. :)

I'll PM you. :)

I also found the quickest way remove a Corrado bumper that doesn't want to come off.

Yeti + tow rope = quick removal. :)

Seems as though there's no messing about stripping the Corrado then lol :)

I see your issue there, that engine should be attached to the car ;):giggle:

I know this is going to generate some hostility...

But I think its a shame to break the Corrado (unless its a rot bucket or bent... in which case I'm fine with it) in favor of a bathtub on wheels.

It depends how you feel about Corrados.

Personally I couldn't care less about them as I don't see the appeal.

It's got/had typical corrado rot on the underside. Plus it stinks inside!

Good work guys :)

Engine in by home time? :)

Two issues, in the shape of the metalwork that bolts to the engine/gearbox and attached to the engine mounts.

Engine mounts are here, but coming from a non-Ibiza/Polo there was an oversight (by me) on the fact that we needed the correct brackets on the engine/box.

So the plan is to do other stuff and then fit the engine when these brackets, driveshafts, dogbone mount etc... are all here.

My Polo GTI would have all the right bits, but it's for my ultimate Fabia project... and it's in storage 100 miles away at Jabbasport.
