My Oil Burner - Red vRS

Featured Replies

Thought I may as well start a progress thread. A quick warning though, it will be slow! Got a sprogling on the way! So money is errr... scarce shall we say.

My Car:

2003 Red Fabia vRS

130k

Drove to Leeds to buy it from a lad who clearly didn't have a clue. But it had a full service history so I was happy.

What a mistake that was! Wing mirrors needed sorted, no hot air, timing belt and water pump needs done, needed a service and a few small niggly bits like the drivers door puddle light is broken, the seats are a bit crap (I didn't mind this - going to replace) and the N/S door speaker vibrates. Not had my stereo on for any length of time :(

On the plus side it has had a fair bit done to it already. Darkside Developments EGR delete, DSD FMIC (AKA Seat Ibiza Cupra FMIC), Miltek cat-back, HIDs which were promptly removed as I was blinding everyone, powder coated anthracite wheels and a map seeing a health 177.something return. This is all saving me a bit of money which I had already planned to spend!

Unfortunately I don't have any pics of when I picked it up but you can imagine what it looked like!

But here are some picks of the first aesthetic mod done on my part; Big mouth!

Need a 3/4 sized plate and some black mesh. I'd also like to move the FMIC over a bit if at all possible but ran out of time after work as the missus was getting a bit impatient  :whew:

As to the heating issue and the service, have changed the oil and filter and tried flushing the coolant system also changing the expansion tank and thermostat but to no avail, seems there is some blockage in the heater matrix but that's going to have to wait till pay day!

Should have these arriving Monday though!

Also have some of this on the way to tart up the interior somewhat:

More to do but as funds allow:

Coilovers

Decat

Hybrid

Some Exterior Work

Re-Remap :p

But all good plans...

Very nice! Is that a sticker plate?

Looks a bit like mine from the front with the wide mouth :)

Yeah it is a sticker plate. Going to order a smaller one when I get paid :)

De-rubstripped this eve :) Used a litre of T&G and have no thumb nails left though :'(

Take care with that smaller plate, I had a 3/4 one and got done about 4 weeks back. ******s.

Side strip removal is a right pain in the arse isn't it, I used a load of petrol on mine.

It took a while yeah lol. Sat cross legged on a concrete floor in a freezing unit getting high on T&G :P

Damn, bit annoying, can't be bothered with the popo giving me grief. Plate is a bit big though, might risk it!

Got any pics of your car up?

Haha I did mine on a sunny day in about 6 hours.

That's what I thought, I thought only £30 fine, I was wrong it's £100 :(

Cheers Dan! Incredible progress so far, inspirational :D

Made a grave error.

Never knew the 3 door golf seats would be so different. Having to angle grind and drill the mounting brackets for the back rests to fit the Fabia bases :'(

  • Author
Front seats are in!

After a bit of cutting and drilling... All my own fault though :'(

I now have all this stuff left over. Not quite sure on how the back bench goes in. A challenge for another day!

Also sealed my rear doors while I was at it. Hopefully this should sort the swimming pool that was my rear foot wells.

What are the exact names of the seats to try and find some off ebay etc?

Looking nice and are the new door cards an exact replacement? Mk4 golf or what?
  • Author

Mk4 Golf Recaros. There's plenty about. Make sure you get 5 door ones. That was my mistake!

Door cards are just getting sold on.

Why not fit them? Not compatible?

  • Author

Why not fit them? Not compatible?

Nope. Mk4 door cards wont fit.

Edited by dirtyoilburner

Thank you :) Saving me some future hassle as current seats and door cards in mine are now too far gone with water damage.

Seats look like they will be well worth the effort!

Thanks!

Now I need to attempt the upper rear backrest... Not looking forward to that. Not quite sure where to start!

Meshed and stripped!

This is what I've been up to this week when time allows :'( Never seem to have much of it spare anymore. Even less come the 23rd June! (baba arrives D:)

Well done mate, those seats do look really good. Did you take any pics whilst you were in the process of modding them?

Unfortunately not. The plan was to take progress pics but I just got on with it. Easy enough to do actually, expect to have sore fingers and the end of it.

Almost took my eye out with a pair of pliers too :/

A few updates:

The parts that have been added:

Tiny aerial (radio surprisingly still works):

Octavia Gloss Black handles:

20140315_130528.jpg

All fitted and clean:

Also purchased one of these but as standard it would never do:

So after a splash of paint and some retrimming:
