  • So did mine, free clean of your shoes every time you get in the car. Simply Clever.

  • Right. Today I spoke to one of the UK technical specialist bods via SUK who have been chasing down a couple of niggles on my VRS.   *CATEGORICALLY* And I quote. "The doors holding water back is by d

Wifey got a soggy shoe the other day opening the front passenger door. A water retention problem (Thought you could get pills for that?) I noted from the first time I washed the car only days after taking delivery in March this year, and has continued every time it rains or gets washed.

So thought it about time I got the dealer involved. I explained the problem, 'ohh' came the reply, 'Never heard of that on the Octavia, water in the door is normal and not a problem, its released when you open the door'. Yes it is as my wife's wet foot can confirm, says I

Funny that the owners know about the problem but the dealers never heard of it.....

Anyway I have booked it in for them to 'investigate' (or have a cursory look and report everything is to manufacturing standard.) But at least when the doors expand due to frozen water or freeze to the sills they cannot say I did not report the problem....

Had mine fixed at dealers..new door seals.

Bumping this baby up. As you were talking about it is just water - what if I told you it could freeze? Had long trip of ~400 km on 24.12.2014. Car was warmed fully up. It rained a little, after that started to snow.

On 25th (-6 C outside) had to use the car, but guess what the door did not want to come open.

I got it open, melted the ice a bit with my hand to get it removed - did not want to slam the door shut while this thing was there.

Yes it is totally fine if it does not freeze - have had water splash out after opening the door in spring / summer / autumn.

Exactly right, The same happened often to me last year when I went to the mountains for a ski trip at the weekend.

Any rain or water during the daytime is collected in the door sils & freezes overnight.

I've had water freeze higher up to around the hinge mechanism of the door.

Water still collects when the car is parked on even ground not just on a slope.

I thought that there were modified door seals now that allowed the water to drain out completely?

Had mine fixed at dealers..new door seals.

Did they use a revised part? If so do you know the part number?

Thanks

Keith. It may be I have 'new door seals' being as mine is 2015 model, will have to wait and see. Then again why would the new seals fix your car and still retain water in mine???

Even so, the seals should stop water getting into the car interior, NOT keep water sloshing around in the door  .

The door seals should allow water to escape through the door drain holes even when the door is closed, whether parked up hill, down hill, or level.

Took the car in to the dealer, conversation went roughly as expected.

Water in the doors is normal.

Then why have drain holes blocked by door seals?

Water runs out when door opened.

That's logical, my wife's foot noticed that but why have door seals that seal water in?

It's designed that way.

Designed? So if your bath plug let the water out and you were told it was designed that way what would you think of the design?

We will check it out for your sir.

And it will be to manufacturing standard I assume so wasting both our time?

Your choice sir.

Go for it, but all I can say is it was a pity Skoda did not design the Titanic.

Dealer report. All to manufactures specification, no fault found with door seals.

ITS OFFICIAL. WATER TRAPPED IN DOORS IS A crap DESIGN FEATURE.

Hi

Someone on here said that there was a technical note that covers this problem. When I spoke to my friendly dealer, they checked on there system and agreed to sort it out. They ordered the revised door seals, fitted them a week later. I have no problem since. I does appear that you need to tell them that there is a problem and there is a fix for it! I had the same problem with my cruse control dropping. Once I told them what the technical note was, and it was down to the DSG software, which needed a new version, again no problem since. I do wonder if the dealers ever bother to check on there system if there is a design problem that has a fix. Or is it easier to say "never heard of that before!"

If water in the door is normal, then what is the Max level it should get to?

Surely a door fill of water and it freezing wouldnt be a great combination.

Can I ask (yet again) what is the part number for these "revised" door seals?

Minimoke

Sorry mate don't have the part numbers, it will be covered under wanantee at Skodas expense

Steve

My 2013 Octavia Mk3 had the same problem from new. Told the dealer for the first 10K service and was met with quizzical looks like "thats never happened before". Was told it was fixed but it wasn't. Water still reliably comes from drivers door following a shower of rain. Its annoying but I'm just going to live with it until I hand the car back after the PCP lease period.

how will this be if the car is not in use for a month? i work as a Fisherman and can be away for weeks to months when my car is parked outside my house in all kind of weather.

will the water build up in the doors when they are not opened?

after reading this thread it semse like i must hire someone to open the doors and let the water out once or twice a week...

This was one of my key points when choosing an Octavia over the new Mazda6 that caught my eye. A lovely car but I couldn't find a uk forum as active as beiskoda which is essential if you're buying (as opposed to leasing.)

If you phone 01144503176 (Skoda UK Customer Services ) ask for Lloyd..he's the guy that got my free shoe wash fixed..he also is helping to get the random sat nav zoom in and out issue fixed. A very helpful as persitant guy..dont think the dealer likes him as they dont get away with anything..lol

How do you open the door if you have your foot under the sill and therefore you leg is against the door??

Tonight I got some drips from near the hinge of the driver's door on my new MY16 Octavia 36 hours after it rained, so it doesn't appear to have been fixed in production yet. I usually cycle to work, so the car sometimes goes weeks at a time without being moved - should I worry about flooding when I open the door?

Although the water build up is consistent, I've never seen any ingress into the actual car itself. I've just recently returned from holidays and the car was in an airport car park for two (apparently) weeks of torrential rain. The car was still dry on the inside.

Shame that Lloyd wasn't as helpful for me when I was pushing for help with shock absorber issues, SUK flat refused to help or admit any part development since my April 13 build date! In the end, I paid for new springs and dampers, totally transformed the car, so in my mind case should have been justified, but hey ho, lifes too short!

Regarding the foot wash, despite a couple of fixes at the dealer, mine still does this when parked facing down hill. I park it uphill if left for long periods!

At least in Sheffield you have plenty of hills to choose from !

That is a shame..can't fault anything Lloyd has done for me..he's working on the random zoom issue on the Amundsen nav for me right now.
