First Service?

Featured Replies

Reading these comments shows just how the poor Citigo owners are stiffed.      I popped into my local "Stealership" today, to check on how long the 1st (minor - I've done 5000 since new in June 2015) Service takes - I didn't want to have to ask someone to pick me up/drop me off etc, & was told "just over one hour".

I then enquires as to the cost, & was told £169!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   "Wot" says I - "169 smackeroodles for a quart of oil: a filter, & around one hours labour - you must think that I have got **** tattooed across my forehead"?

The garcon disappears, & then tells me that he'll (whoopee) knock off 15% (which would bring the cost of the Service down to £144) but also tells me that for my money, they do "ooh, all sorts of other things as well" - like a visual examination of the car (whoopee): a diagnostic check: a (totally unneeded) topping of the screen wash: a (also totally unneeded) check of the tyre pressures, & sic "the official notification sent to Skoda, that my little jam jar has had all of this done" etc etc etc.

He's right, I must have "****" tattooed across my forehead!

  • This is the bottle of oil that was supplied with my Citigo.

  • Well no problems with the car on the service and they did the engine management update (cooling fan) as well. and they stamped the service book for both jobs!

  • £157 to change the oil sounds a bit pricy. I was told the interim owuld be around £99. Glad we got the free servicing, although taking into account the cost for the car on credit (even though it was p

I thought 1st service was about £129 for a citigo

glad I've got three free services with mine, they are collecting and returning it week after next. Also just re taxed mine as it's a year old, went for the monthly option at £1.75 lol

After an initial £139 quote for a first service (and mentioning that people on here were charged about £100)  - "how about £90, then?" was the reply ....and that's exactly what I was charged.  I got a similar reduction (about one third off) on the second service. Remember that the "official" Skoda-quoted price is a MAXIMUM they should charge..you can (and should!) argue for a reduction.

Maybe a good idea to ring a number of Skoda dealers and get some quotes then ?

Tight arse! I will be doing the honourable thing a paying for my road tax up front and in full. All £0.00 of it! :)

I suppose that the Stealerships rely on their customers not doing any more than "taking their official word" & falling meekly into line & throwing money at them???

There's only the one Skoda Dealership in my immediate area, but I am very seriously considering just going somewhere (anywhere in fact) & paying for just an oil & Filter change.

I couldn't care less whether Mr Skoda's records are UTD: if there were essential Downloads that need to be installed, then they can't be so important, otherwise I'd have received a previous call from the Dealer: I can "visually" check my own car - just as I can (& do) check the tyre pressures & top up the Screenwash, & as my car seems to be running just as it says on the tin, then I can't really see the importance of having a diagnostic check.

If the Stealership wasn't so insistent on putting his hand (up to the shoulder) into my pocket, then I'd have meekly coughed up, & made them a few quid - but although I may indeed be a "mug" I strongly resent being taken for one.

I do hope that Dealerships read the opinions of owners on Briskoda - they damn well ought to!

I'm afraid there's often not much loyalty towards customers these days with any company and that includes car dealerships.

We all have to depend on doing our own research for the best deals. I've just changed my gas and electric supplier as I was about to pay above the odds.

Definitely shop around, get quotes and present you nearest dealer with them, you never know.

We had a toyota a few years ago i think the first service was in the £200's, and the second about £350, at that wasnt even changing the spark plugs, just clean/inspect (i bet they didnt bother), they also changed the battery in the keyfob, I asked about the other key and they said "oh don't worry they last years and years", didn't stop them billing me £10 for it mind, we px'ed it with the third service and MOT being due and didn't buy another Toyota. I learnt from that, the citigo i went for the £99 3 years servicing option, and sugested it would be nice if they threw that in (which they did), and out main car a similar thing but for £300.

Oh the rules changed a bit a few years ago and they have to honour the warrantee so long as you've had it serviced in accordance with their procedures/parts etc, I did look around for the Toyota, but the savings I was quoted weren't that much.

Well, I did as RickW suggested, and rang a few other garages - some  couple of other Skoda, & a couple of independents.   The Skoda ones were all about the same - sic "we have a fixed price, set by Skoda", but one of the independents quoted £69, and it was for doing exactly what the Skoda Stealership were scheduled to do.   So, it look as though Mr Skoda had lost yet another "tame" customer - except in my case, I was pretty untamed.  I'm prepared to drive much farther than to Mr Skoda's little "money earner" - I may look like a mug, but I'm revolting (I've just re-read that & perhaps I've used the wrong word - or again, perhaps not)!

If you are planning on owning the vehicle beyond the initial three year warranty period and expect "goodwill" from Skoda for any premature out-of-warranty failures then Skoda franchise service history is a pre-requisite.

"we have a fixed price, set by Skoda".....and your reply should have been " which is a maximum only...you are free to charge anything up to that maximum".

I noticed this 'ŠKODA stamp in service book' as part of the service.

How much does the ink cost?

Our Fabia and Citigo don't have books that can be 'stamped' in,it's all computerized now.

Hi ronime,  I'm not planning on keeping the car after my 3 year PCP is up - it will be returned, & replaced with another Citigo Greentech (I think that they are fantastic little cars) or it will be replaced (whatever the cost it may take) with another make of city car.     It all depends on what's "out there" when the time comes to change.   For preference (at least until I was attempted to be stiffed) it would have been another Citigo, but times they are a-changing - especially through the cost of the RFL (which was a large inducement for buying a low-emissions car), after April 2017!

& to oxonboxn, It was explained to me (at great length) that Stealerships are free to set their own servicing costs - the Skoda recommended price, is but a guide!!!

& RickW - Not no-one seems to not have not no books anymore (pick the bones out of all those negatives), it's all computerised now, & sic "means that one can breakdown happily (or unhappily) when touring through Europe, & the local Skoda repair shop will be able to check whether the car has been serviced as per SOP, & if not, say "Hasta luego", "Vaya con Dios", "au revoir Msieu le Rosbif" or "gehen sie von hier schnell, Englander Schwein" - coz you ain't not within the greater Skoda family.

Sigh..... life used to be sooooooooooooo simple!

Blade's price list was updated on the 3rd apparently, and the price of the first Citigo service has risen to £108 including vat.

Thankfully it turns out that whilst ours was registered on 22 May, the pdi wasn't done until July so it doesn't need doing for a couple of months

I threw the "I got 3 years free servicing when I bought my car" at the Service guy, but he stated (possibly with a forke`d tongue) that any free servicing offers such as these, were totally at the instigation of (& cost to) Skoda themselves, & at that particular time - obviously just an inducement to people to buy more of their cars an inducement to flog a few more cars.

"Possibly" makes sense, I was given a £500 free fuel card, which was presumably an Skoda-funded inducement, when I bought mine.

Still not happy at forking out £169 (or even their reduced offer of £145) for what is a (very) minor Service.

I got 3years free servicing with my Yeti and I don't use the supplying dealer for service. I use a local Skoda approved service agent. When I first took it in for service they said it wasn't on the system so I phoned VWFS and they said for the agent to try again. When he did lo' and behold it came up OK so apparently it had to be activated. Worth checking out.
