a sub8 pack estate plus Mansfield's finest sauce?

I reckon that would be a hilarious Q car. Agree with DCC, I never use anything but the centre ground sport mode. It's a shame you have to buy heated leather seats too to get heated washer nozzles - latter should be standard IMO on every car.

Agreed - if it can find traction so off the lights it'd be no quicker but then do I actually drive like that anyway? No.

And you don't have to pay out for the seats to get the heated nozzles - they can be specified with the cheapie winter pack which also heats your bum and back and gives you washers for the headlamps. :)

So, what's holding you up?? :)

BTW, mine was dyno'd at 340lb/ft @ 3k, (stock was 248lb/ft at something like 2.5k) with the Pirellis back on the traction issues I had have mostly gone. I'm sure it could cope with more, though whether the DSG could is another matter of course. FWIW I have never used launch control, and have no interest in doing so either, so standard start traction not important to me either. I'm also thinking of buying another map to compare from you know where, which I suspect would be of more interest to you.

errrr???....................NO. Circa £360 for winter pack in conjunction with led/bi-xenons (which are std fit on R).......that gives you heated front seats & heated washers, as the LED's/bi-xenons give you the bigger bottle, washers for headlights & low washer fluid warning...................

How do I know?.........because that's how I spec'ed my car!............ :sun:

I'm very cautious with jumping as Ive gone from powerful awd cars to fwd cars before and regretted it. The all weather ability of my Octavia 4x4 Turbo was far far superior to the replacement VRS estate and the more I did to the awd Octy, the better it got. The more I did to the VRS, the less it impressed. Hence I plumped for the Yeti as a capable all rounder. Going to anything from this looses me ticks in the boxes, not just performance but flexibility of the car but in that segment its down to the Cupra ST and R estate without doubt. :)

I fully agree with you, having driven Golf "R" I wouldn't want to go back.............For me it I knew the R estate was coming out before I ordered my GT estate,...If I had the R estate I would use all the power, I know what I am like......... ..........bye bye licence........... ......................

Anyway very happy with my spec'd up (to R & beyond) GT estate.................... :sun:

The manufacturer's figures tell such an intesting story which underline what you say above.   As shown in the link below A3 with the 185 hp diesel, 0-62 mph of FWD hatch 7.4 seconds, of the 4WD, 6.9 seconds.   Wiesel VRS 8.2 seconds for hatch and 8.3 seconds for the Estate.  Function of weight distribution and how much power can you actually get down due to the weight through the driven wheel, suspension etc.

Considering our cold and wet maritime climate what would you rather have ie power on paper or power you can get down most of the time I oft ask myself (having been spinning up much of the winter in the Fabia VRS ,roll on warmer weather and summer tyres).

I thought it was less than that these days. Did you wait 6 months for yours Keith?

Even so, if I was after one I'd rather wait a few months and get a new one rather than pay those prices for used. But that's just my personal view.

Got mine in 2 weeks, at the spec I wanted and with £5k plus discount .New! (Looked a round, researched market / availability  and negotiated a proper  deal)

The Used market, within VW is what it is - they must have takers and are prepared to negotiate some /PX deals. (Audi and probably BMW the same etc.)

Never once felt the need to tune it, as it has enough power  for me and superb handling characteristics in all roads and conditions that  I drive in on a regular basis and more should I need it.

Oh ! if I choose  later to upgrade to the R400 or whatever, it will have a warranty and imo very good residuals. Time will tell I guess in that regard..(mk6 hold up well it appears)

Owning day to day is the real test- for me it's brilliant a package and worth the extra dosh ,if you can afford it of course. 6500 miles on now ,returning 34 mpg average and a great kick up the arse when required and used responsibly(!?) MUCH FUN- quote from Chris Harris I believe when comparing with M235i .

PS. I probably would have bought a standard spec car, if that's what my budget dictated and would have still been happy to wash my headlights and do other chores.

There you go, just shows no need to pay those inflated used dealer prices when if you put the work in you can get a bargain new car in a quick timescale :-)

I'm taking a Luger with me next time. That should secure a half decent discount. Oh wait, I'm possibly getting an Alfa, "how much? Yes, of course, whatever you say"

Good luck with the Alfa Dealerships and PX valuations .When the time arrives for your negotiations  / threats to ensue.

I'm sure that they will snap your hand off for the Leon Cupra 310.

It will turn back into a pumpkin by the time that comes around.

In any case, if it's remotely good, I'll prostitute my wallet for anything

Pumpkin presumably without a warranty?

It won't have one anyway, as the mileage will have been exceeded. It would probably end up in an auction, as long as its standard, believe me no one is going to care what happened to it when I owned it, other than the new owner. In which case, he or she can rest easy that it will have been serviced on the dot, no pushing it out to save money, and had more oil changes than it should have done, and been treated to race spec oil (so none of that bulk buy cheapo synthetic they hide in the back of the workshops). It will have been looked after, not treated with kid gloves, nor abused. it doesn't use any oil by the way, which is good news. Does your R?

Both of my previous Octys did, one a lot, the other less so.

stever750,

R, still at the top of the stick - no top up yet in 6500 miles - happy with that.

My previous Octavia vRS TSI MK3 - 0.5 ltr in 11500 miles.

You had a lucky Octavia then. My first consumed a litre every 900 miles or so. The last one would need topping up a couple of times in between servicing, so around half a litre every 3000 miles or so

With a six and a half second 0-60 time, loss of body rigidity, handling, small boot and only being front wheel drive... it kind of defeats the whole purpose of a premium hot hatchback ie practical and fun and iirc it was £6-7k more than the AWD hatchback version!! One of VW's major 'fill every niche' fails imo.

Well Lovely sunny spring morning in Wiltshire, has resulted in me giving the R a bath.

Discovering yet again today, the quality , functionality of design by VW Engineering and or it's OEM specialist suppliers,on a fairly "basic product".

The Standard Cadiz Alloys are superb, the easiest alloys I have cleaned in a long time and look great after 5mins of an elbow grease wash (Not an hour of foam etc.). I'm not a Big Detailer, Just like to see a good designed product, that just happens to be Owner friendly and fit for purpose.

So well done Engineers.

K.I.S.S.!!
