I didn't know it could do that!

There is a small electric pump. You can hear it if you listen carefully.

Isn't that pump circulating coolant through the turbo?  I think the oil comes to a dead stop.

You're correct. Sori, I had a brain-fart whilst writing my earlier post, resulting in faulty info  :S

Don't know if this has already been mentioned but...

The front armrest slides forwards :)

Noticed it today when I got home and thought that my seat was back too far.

I also like the hazard jacket pocket under the drivers seat, it's great for the newspaper :)

It also cancels the satnav announcements, and if you are playing a cd or music from the SD card or USB it mutes and pauses.

Weird, as it doesn't cancel Sat nav announcements on mine .......

You have to be on the Nav display.

I am and it doesn't cancel the announcement on a Columbus running 0309. The right hand scroll wheel will repeat the last announcement. The left hand mutes the radio when on Sat nav display on MIB and Maxidot, but if there is an announcement it does nothing. Odd.

I'll check again tomorrow, will also try the right scroll repeat function, and note the versions I'm running on the Amundsen.

That should have read 0390.

Sure it worked on my old Columbus on 0220 in the hatchback

Well, today it worked. The only difference was that instead of Navigation being permanently selected in the Maxidot, I had Driving Data selected, then planned a route so it automatically switched the Maxidot to Navigation view.

My maxi dot is normally switching between Nav and phone, but seems to mute on lh scroll all the time. Like the repeat function though.

This picture shows the vbf with the roof bars in the space

Is this the same in the hatchback?

Nope.

All windows open or open using kessy :)

All windows open or open using kessy :)

That's funny, I can open and close all the windows even with the basic (non Kessy) remote :)

Ditto

Lane assist apparently. :notme:

Think I need to read the instructions as to what it's supposed to do.

I wan't told it had it.

Was this a fitted option p'raps, or do they all have it?

VW have been using this system for years. It's not a new thing. I agree with you though, linked to the rear window is the better design.

I agree here with kallekilponen. For me it's one of the best ideas in VAG.

These 2 things serve different purposes despite being similar; being engineer, I still cannot believe how most manufacturers are missing this point.

In other cars I drove it was linked with rear window and always frustrated me that I cannot keep my mirrors clean unless I keep on switching that huge and useless (when car is already heated up) heater behind. It is one of the hungriest consumers in the car (more then combined load of all the lights you could light up)! Check what happens with your fuel consumption (when car is stationary) after you trigger RWH - jumps up by 20% or more.

Time-control feature for mirrors misses the point completely. For rear window it's ok - car needs too keep on just few minutes to keep it from fogging until insides give enough heat to take over; it makes perfect sense. Doing the same for external mirrors - not at all; is there a process in physics, that would take over / keep mirrors clean after that arbitrary heating time is up? Not at all - once heating is down you get the problems all over again. Rear window is clean and stays this way though - no need to waste energy on that.

So all in all even with a simple switch it's a superior solution. Now when they added step-control for it and put ambient condition measurements in the loop, that design is simply optimal and, if you ask me, miles ahead of what other brands offer with RWH link.

Low fuel warning light comes on, and the sat nav fires up to ask me would I like to be guided to the nearest fuel station! I really wasn't expecting that.

Hold the lock button & they go up.. lol

One thing that bugs me is that when first starting the car, the maxidot display shows me the seat-belt status of the rear seats (for around 10 seconds).

Really irritating when there is just me in the car (and also when there is a rear passenger).  WHY?

Can I turn this off?  I really can't be bothered with the state of the seatbelts in the rear seat.

Another irritation is the auto wipers.  Sometimes they work brilliantly and other times not.  It is good to hear that I can turn the auto-wiper function off and have them revert to normal variable wipe function.

Whereabouts can I do this?

Cheers,

Zaph

My cars all curb their wheels by themselves. I don't do it, and the wife denies doing it, but somehow it just happens.

Hmmm mine do these on my Fabia, not unique to the Octavia ;)

Hold the same button and my electric sunroof does its magical closing sequence. Will miss using it when the winter weather arrives soon. SHAME!B)

Try having them in the clips to fool the sensor and see what happens!
