Drivers Door a Different Shade

Featured Replies

Hello everyone, I was out making the most of the sun today and have Mario a well earned wash! Anyway after drying him off I was looking and managed to convince myself that the drivers door was a different shade to the rest of the car. Anyway got a few people to look at it and they all agreed, and so this evening I got it under an old street lamp and it proved that yes, the drivers door is a slightly different shade or has been resprayed. My question is that I have owned it since 14th February and it came straight from the factory, and so surely it should have original paint being only a few weeks old? Any ideas??ytetusag.jpg

Can't tell from that photo but if it is a different colour it must have been resprayed before you got it, either at the factory or by the dealer. It won't have come off the line like that as cars care painted with the doors on so it's not possible for one panel not to match, it would be a smaller or larger area.

So why would it be resprayed then?

Damaged by transporter, dealer, mechanic etc and chips away or similar

called in to hide the crime.

Damaged in transit or at the factory and another door installed to replace the damaged one. You'll be surprised at how many cars are damaged before the new owner collects the car as its first owner.

Are you sure its a different colour, the light can play tricks on the colour. To me above the door looks the the same colour in that picture. Chances are if you had not pointed out you thought the door was a different colour to others they would not notice.

I didn't, I only said that it looks nice, and they all said to me "are the doors different colours? And yeah I'm sure, it's quite obvious I've just never looked at it straight from the side before

definitely a colour shift there alright...

but as said, a ridiculous number of cars get damaged even on production lines in factories, and get set aside for in house repairs,

loong before they're even delivered. add the potential for damage on a transport ship, and loading / unloading..

theres a lot of scope for pre-purchase damage that gets covered up,

so someone along the way had to sort it. Id be back to the dealer, with these pics to get it sorted out...

Yeah I'll be popping along tomorrow to see what they have to say, no doubt with our dealer it'll be the response of "it's just the light on it" but it's quite clear it's different

if you feel like your getting no hop, go directly to Skoda UK. they might even be able to ID if it was damaged on route or at the dealers...

Agreed seeing the car is new they must have record of that being damaged repaired somewhere.

Good luck :)

Good luck at the dealers fella

If it's taken you six weeks to notice it it can't be that bad.......

Regards all

In his defense, if your not expecting your new car to be 2 tone, and so dont really look closely, your eye might notice, but not register in your head,

it'll get filed away as a shadow or lighting.

The garage recognised that it is different but when I asked if it would be recorded if it happened during transit, his response was "let's not focus on the past" which just makes me curious as to are they hiding something? We've had dishonest dealings with this garage in the past so maybe they could be hiding what really happened? But I have I take it back tomorrow so that the warrenty guy can look it, although I've been told I can't have a courtesy car because I'm not old enough, even though I'm old enough to buy and test drive one and the citigo is the courtesy car they use...

courtesy car exclusion sounds like BS, esp when they came out with a statement like "Lets not focus on the past"... that SCREAMS they Fecked up with the car, and probably either got the door off another car, or had it resprayed... and never declared the vehicle damage to Skoda...

First thing, ring Skoda UK Customer Services, get them involved, the garages initial response does not sound promising.

I would have a professional detailer look over the car and take paint depth readings, then you will know for sure if it has been repainted maybe other places have too. Deep Shine Detail is based in Lincoln, worth a call at least.

Also possible that it looked OK when new, but exposure to light and a few washes has caused the colour to age differently to the rest of the car. In street lighting, metamerism shows that the door has a different paint to the surrounding panels.

Get straight onto SkodaUK. That response from dealer is not very good at all? Hope you dont mind me asking but how old are you?

EDIT; sorry its in your profile. I know 100% that an 18yr old can have a loan car. Brothers currently driving a rapid spaceback after having a similar issue. (Delivery damage) Think they might well be messing with you.

Threaten to reject the car if they won't play ball.

I had exactly the same issue with a red polo.... vw had their chief paint tech from Germany come over and had a look. mine hadn't been sprayed or damaged and it was put down to the fact they use different batches of paint for different parts as the dealer tried to colour match the car and failed miserably (took 8 re-sprays! :o).

VW did admit that solid red is the worst colour for this as it seams to show more for some reason... this it why I went for white as I love red :)

even with a pdi respray, any half wit body shop can colour match far better than suggested! have a chat with your dealer..

I knew a guy that worked at rover... when taking the car off production and driving it into the compound, "someone" managed to roll a car...
