Folks, Ive now had my 2011 vRS diesel estate in midlife crisis red for three weeks. Its been £55 cheaper to fuel and about a million pounds more in grins ! Ive gone from a very good but utterly different Volvo XC70. Ive averaged 46 mpg which is both same on the longterm trip and brim to brim calcs on two tanks so far. Journeys have been a mix of longish runs kid drop offs and daily commute. This is a 30 round trip with 3 miles on urban roads before national speed then motorway pretty much to work. I am not lead footed but do enjoy the odd blip....

 

I may have some sawtoothing on the offside rear. Tyre roar is noticable on alot of older black top but dies away on the newer stuff. Currently on Pirelli Rossos. They appear to get bad right ups for overall performance but working well for me.

 

Caravan which is an Avondale Dart 6 birth has been given a test drag using the removable Witter towbar. This went very well, lots of torque and great brakes made it an easy experience.

 

Mods, well not planning any. I like to leave my cars as they were designed unless you count the rather well crafted dog guard I grabbed off ebay. Its the Skoda genuine one and is a great piece of kit.

 

Big test to come, le Mans 24hrs in June, three up full of camping kit including large tent and gazbo. Then a drag across France with family and caravan.

 

 

The tyre saw toothing is a common problem, needs 4 wheel alignment ( laser ) costs about £75 ish and worth every penny

Enjoy it! Though if your midlife "crisis" is manifest as a diesel vrs then you'll be fine
