Blyton Park Track day - 3rd August - From

In case I've missed it, are there any provisions for 'storing' stuff? ie. Road wheels and Jack, tool box, cooling etc whilst out on track?

My brother will have his octavia Barrie. Plenty of storage space :)

I presonally will be on stock everything and as such only doing shortish stints:

not sure if best to go:

  • 2 laps cooling laps > 4 quickish laps > 2 laps cooling laps > 4 quickish laps and so on...
  • 6 - 8 quickish laps > 15 min break > 6 - 8 quickish laps > 15 min break and so on...

Can those in the know (Boss, Sharkey, Jab etc.) give some indication of best method?  The car itself is heavier than the Fabia (Audi A5 Quattro) and the tyres are big and wide 275/30/19s

I'll run through it with you on the day mate.  Talk is easy and everyone is an expert.

You have a completely different car and it will put the most strain on it's brake pads.

That's what you'll be preserving with cooling down laps and breaks.

I don't forsee you having oil temp issues.

Key is smoothness.

You are probably looking at a warming up lap, three or four brisk laps, cooling down lap and then giving the car 15-20 minutes before going again.

There is no bonus points for setting fire to the front pads early on.

Plus breaks can be spent passengering in other cars which can provide some pointers, different lines and styles etc...

It's not just the car that needs a break, the driver will too.

It can be quite demanding and it's easy to make mistakes if you just keep going and going with the car getting hotter and hotter...

After a while you'll start to find a natural flow with yourself and the vehicle.

Don't pop your rad cap to top up coolant when just of track. It goes horribly wrong, bloody funny though.

arh those were the days.

Ok, anyone who knows anyone, begin your arm twisting now please. Got to get to 20, having palpations about an empty track. Not sure the citigo can go around all day none stop. I might give it a dam good go though.

Mini Competition.

If we get to 20 full, then we'll have a raffle for a free day ( effectively a refund ) if we get to 30 we'll give away 2 same basis... sound good?

Still a few instructor slots free too. Can top them up on the day too.

yes and no. Others cars if you want. I'm marking out an area of parking next to pit lane. This area is only for track day users parking. It's opposite the green grass/show area. In effect creating a moving and static area of the site.

That area then is only for your use. It will be as most track day venues are, open. So it is at your own risk. I've left lots of stuff out on days and it's always been there when I came back in. However if you leave a 2k apple laptop out in the sun... you get the idea.

I asked all I could think of as being remotely interested in this but either away on holidays or other local commitments.

I will start knocking at doors in my neighbourhood then ;)

I've asked book of face as Mr Fox has seen...

I will bring my Russian friend with his trusty AK47 if that's OK? ;)

I will have the BMW Battle Bus to store things in, should be room for some stuff.  Only bringing essentials myself, oil, water, jack, tools, food, tent.... you get the picture

Beer?

Beer?

Goes without saying does beer, not the usual buy it in a can stuff though, wife beater and pepperoni don't do it for me, traditional beer that tastes good warmish (my tent has no fridge)

OR

We could have just the one of these  :p

Oh I wonder if I dropped a ball here. Does Lincolnshire have a brewery?

If the bbq den comes off, then definitely should find some local sausages.

I'd cough for a barrel of bradfield brewery best, if it even fitted in the citigo. Except my events piggy bank is broken :(

I could do one of those super imposed projections like F1, Bernie says think before you...

I should think there'll be enough alcohol supplied by everyone camping. :D   I for one, am hoping not to have a repeat of the first night in the Lakes, as I was feeling a little "off" the next day.  Don't fancy doing a trackday without being 100% compus, let alone the 300 mile drive home after too!

, let alone the 300 mile drive home after too!

I thought I had a long trip... respect!

I'll be travelling 267 miles each way from Dorset, but overnighting in Hertfordshire on the way up and down.

126 miles for me, across the M62, shouldn't be too bad, get there for tea time Saturday, open a beer, pitch the tent, open a beer, cook some tea, open a beer and so on. Really looking forward to it.

OK, just checked and it's "only" 271 miles, but still a bloomin long way.

James, you might actually temot me to coming over on Saturday as there is nothing stopping, bar complete lack of any kind of camping gear! What about washing facilities on site? I'd hate to stink my Skoda up on Sunday :D

I am sure they have water at Blyton Park, a quick wash Sunday morning and of course a bath Saturday afternoon before setting off will be more than sufficient. Deodorant is also a must I would say, get yourself across and worst case you sleep in a car, or borrow a tent and sleeping bag

Toilets and showers at Blyton.

Warm enough to use a blanket if low wind.

I'll probably be under the stars sans tent.

I have bad news.

It is looking doubtful I will be attending the track session at Blyton, I have spoken to my trusty mechanic today, he is fitting my turbo to the Golf, it seems that the Golf is not playing ball, the job has been a nightmare, we are still in need of a down pipe and the oil feeds need doing, inlet manifold needs a modification, all this before we have even thought about firing it up and setting any boost or map...

Hopefully he can work a miracle and I all be there, if not then I will just have to watch..

Well just joined up as its such good value.

Do it in the daily runner James

Do it in the daily runner James

My daily runners have changed since we last spoke mate, Fabia has gone, so has the Yeti and I have a 116d BMW now, slow is not the word, I could have a go in the 330d tourer, automatic but it should be ok.

I have just been looking at car hire, or a demonstrator maybe  :notme:
