Scratches on Instrument Display Cover

Featured Replies

Has anyone noticed progressively worse scratches on the clear (I'm assuming soft plastic) cover that protects the instrument display?

I only use an Autoglym microfibres cloth to dust it. I simply cannot believe that it's THIS badly scratched after only 7.5 months and 16.5k of miles driven.

It's really very obvious in the sunlight and actually starting to catch glares which I can easily see becoming more of a problem as the car gets older and it gets worse.

PS - wife took these as we were driving today!

Wow I'd give SUK a call as the gauges could be un readable in sun light and hopefully they will advise you!

Stupid question - but are you sure they are scratches?  Could they just be streaks?  If you run your fingernail across them, can you feel them indents of scratches?

common problem on all vag clusters

they scratch ever so easy

Skoda won't do anything as it is not a faulty item.

Would any sort of polishes help it?

Me & quite a few Polish board members have the same experience. I scratched mine using premium paper towels with glass cleaner spray, others used microfibre.

Tricky using anything on the Perspex without taking it out to do

I have some minor scratches too, only had the car a month and I think the scratches were done during PDI, although I may have when I used a micro fibre cloth to clean the dust off. I think the only thing to use is a lens cloth for cleaning glasses.

Have to be really careful cleaning this, I got some scratches in either corner, as if if some dirt particles were under the cloth and caused the scratches.

Really fragile plastic - haven't tried cleaning again!

It's polycarbonate, if you wipe it it will scratch. You can get polish for it though.

What can you polish it with though if a premium microfibre causes damage when lightly dusting? Mines dirty at the moment but I'm unsure what to clean it with without damaging it as my old Passat one was a right state(although was like it when I got it)

Looking at this pictures, can it really be this bad? I wonder what Skoda says about this...

I clean mine regularly - and carefully - with nothing more than a standard clean duster - no scratches whatsoever so far.

Off topic, I'm very impressed with your fuel consumption at the slightly illegal speed you're doing :wonder:

That is quite impressive!

I wonder if we'd be expected to tolerate this if we'd bought and Audi or VW?

The issue people are having not that they scratch as like you say they all do, every make of car ive ever had has done.  The issue is the angle catching the sunlight and making it visible.  Mines the same, i'll just polish it.

The sun in my sky takes on all angles over the year.

CAUTION. Do not use on touchscreens and polycarbonate (PC). So, I do not recommend this product.

except that the Maxidot is clearly set to instant consumption otherwise it wouldn't change by 20mpg in two minutes (one photo is 12:06 and the second is either the same minute or 12:08).
