Summer Show Wax choice = Auto Finesse Illusion

Featured Replies

Having been doing a lot of research and reading on various forums and website;

i think i have chosen my wax for the Summer Show season.

Looking for a real deep wet look, with plenty of pop from the metallic finish on the car.

Plenty of deliveries today after the Bank Holiday spree....    But the important one first..... oh yes..... absolute quality.....

  • Look what arrived today....     :sun:

  • Now let's see what it can do ste.

Lucky boy ste.

I really like AF range.

Looking forward to seeing your results.

You sir, have great taste!

Been debating between some AF waxes or treating myself to a pot of Swissvax for summer. Hmmmm....

I'll await your write up!

Cheers mate..... just need to see when i can fit in the R36 detail. Might need to plan with Alan-BlueR36.

I'm sure the R36 twins might suit some of this AF Illusion....

Its been a long and touch decision. Desire looks great too and with 6 months durability.... wow.

But the whole philosophy around Illusion sounds perfect for the sort of look i aim for on my car!

Got the chance of 33% off - so jumped at the chance when it came up!!!  :sun:

Reading about them they both sound fantastic.... but crickey!  I didnt realise they cost so much, and I thought this would be an inexpensive hobby  :peek:

Really looking forward to seeing the twins in this tho!

Lifetime annual top ups though... :giggle:

Thanks for the link! Bad influence though!

Was going to get a tub of Temptation as my first proper size wax but am considering Illusion now!

Would you recommend Illusion on a Silver car?

Might have to order a few other bits too!

Sorry dude - i just like to spread the good news. Plenty of bargains on there....

As for silver - it is always a difficult paint to decide on products.

For wax.... i personally opted for Illusion as it is optimised for depth of gloss and extra wet look.

It is a real Show Wax. Durability suffers as a result..... but i dont mind that at all - its no issue.

If i was more focused on durability - i might move up the range to Spirit or Desire wax.

Like you say - with 33% off Illusion..... i spent the extra on some other goodies!

There are lots of bargains, that's the tempting thing!

Yeah I find silver difficult sometimes.

Cool, well I'll have a think and see how much I want to spend!

Might be a couple of other bits in the order as well  :p

Not sure what you have tried on your Silver paint work, but i'll suggest what worked best on my girlfriends old Silver Merc.

Poorboy's White Diamond, then either Poorboy's EX-P Sealant or Fk1000P high temp wax , topped with a nice concours wax.... if you have the time.

It was a 10 year old car and it polished up lovely.... just in time for trade-in.... and it was worth it - we got above the book value

I think it's worth a note for any first timers looking at this thread.  Steve has selected a lovely show wax but it will only be a final finishing off of what I expect to be some very thorough prep work which will contribute more than 3/4 of the look he achieves.

The Amazon deals on AF are bargainous and strongly encourage people to tuck in while they last, I guess I just want to warn against thinking any wax will define the look of your car, it won't.

If anyone fancies doing a comparison, try applying Illusion straight after a full wash and decon on half the car, then do the same on the other half but before you apply the wax give a hand or machine polish with AF Tripple and see the difference.

Thanks for the post Mark - very sound advice for the uninitiated.

As stated in another thread recently..... i've been slowly building up detailing experience using my own cars.

It all started with my new 2008 Octavia VRS... which was brand new and i wanted it to look new - always.

Therefore - it has taken me 6 years to get to the point where i am comfortable spending this much on a wax;

and also being comfortable  that i can get the paint prep'd well enough before applying such a luxury product!

It just reflects where my mind is at today Steve :)

I was thinking back to first experiences detailing my old silver X' Reg Alfa 156 Sportwagon 1.6 Twinspark.  It was my utter pride and joy.

I was unbelievably gutted when I first gave her a 'detail' and didn't get showroom results, by this I mean - single bucket method wash with cheap shampoo and a sponge, probably started by washing the alloys too, and that was my full wash and prep.   Left to dry off in the sun then attacked the poor old girl with a combo of T-Cut and cut up strips of T-Shirt, apalling technique and followed by LIBERAL coats from a bottle of Turtle Wax (which product I have no idea - it said Wax on it), then run around the car covering any trim and the tyres in back 2 black   .

In this particular instance a £5.00 car wash would have been the lesser of two evils.

Not saying that anyone reading this is doing anything like the above, but I know for a fact a younger me would have expected a £75.00 pot of wax to cure all of the poor technique that went before.  After all if you read the labelling on some products you would be fairly well convinced that they would also solve world peace :notme:

Well said Mark..... i'm sure most of us can relate to that stage, if we are honest.  :D

As Alan (blueR36) always says.... we arent born with the knowledge....

Everyone has to start somewhere... and on a budget too - i'm sure.

I am still learning little by little and can be found always asking questions on the Detailing pages/forums/sites.

I do not profess to be a Pro Detailer & would never charge for my effort or very limited expertise, that's for sure.

I know enough to bring my cars at home upto a very high standard - but they have been looked after from Day 1.

I certainly hope that the Detailing Meet progresses.... as per the thread:-

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/304822-interested-in-a-detailing-meet/

I know what you mean Mark. As above, I'm sure pretty much all of us can relate to that. But thankfully we've got people like you helping us out with advice every now and then :)

I may have ordered a couple of bits off Amazon this morning.

Cheers again for the heads up on the bargains!

Very nice mate!  Hope you have some fun with the new products.

To be honest - i was lucky; i had collected enough various waxes, sealants, and other products over time.

I traded and sold lots earlier this year to clear space and it got me to the budget of the Definitive Wax option!

I will test it, see what i think, ...and maybe trade it..... who knows....

I now need to plan an .:R36 detailing weekend with my good buddy BlueR36

Whilst it won't achieve the same results as hours of prep work and a good show wax, there is certainly products out there for people who don't want the do all the prep work and still achieve satisfactory results.

For example, Soft99 Fusso Coat wax, not my picture but this car has had no prep work and just 2 layers of the wax applied. Should supposedly provide 12 months of protection and only costs around £26.
