vRS button...

Featured Replies

Hi all

I'm intrigued: seen the vRS console button in this forum, but my own vRS doesn't have it! Just a standard Drive Mode button instead.

Can anyone tell me any more about it? #buttonenvy

It does the same thing. There is no extra functionality.

Interesting... do you know when it was made standard? My car was ordered back in Oct and, judging by the VED disc, was registered in February.

I might investigate a button swap...

Loads on here would like one, if you can get a supply.

It looks like MY15 cars have it standard.

They probably do but none have been delivered yet so we don't know.  Seemed to start appearing on cars delivered early April though.

Trouble is from Skoda the buttons come as a complete row, ie upper or lower row so it probably isn't cheap and there's loads of different permutations depending on the spec of the car.

Now if someone can get hold of the buttons individually it's probably possible just to swap the one with a bit of messing....

Thanks all. I'll look into it... but probably learn to live without a vRS button. Painful as it will be... ;-)

Richard,

I can't remember, is your car a DSG or manual?

mine was ordered late December and I collected on 30th may, as said previously it seems to be on cars from April.

The more I think about it the mode button makes more sense!

I agree as it's not like it turns vrs mode on/off! However I still prefer the vrs button - it's cooler ;)

The normal mode button does make more sense. The vRS Mode button actually lights up in Eco mode....

Now I've had the car 3 weeks, most of the time I engage sport simply by pulling the auto stick back. Its much easier than trying to do it on the screen. Also means I only use it the instant I need it. Then straight back when I don't.

Pretty sure the button does things to the throttle response and steering as well - gearstick in S just makes it hold revs longer/downshift earlier...

If you repeated press the button does it cycle through the modes or do you have to use the screen after pressing the button? The Drive Select button on my Audi does...

So how does that work then?

On that basis when you select vRS (sport) mode on screen, which changes certain parameters, you can further alter them by putting the shifter into S… which would essentially give you two variations of vRS (sport) mode.

Doesn't sound right!

For my use, sport is all about overtaking the car in front that is just slightly slower, as quickly and safely as possible, especially on those country roads with very short straight bits. For that it does what I want extremely well.

By selecting Sport mode in Infotainment it puts the DSG box in Sport mode as well.

If you pull back on the shifter whilst in Sport mode it will put the gearbox back in to Standard mode (D), but leaves the throttle response, steering weight, xenons etc. in Sport mode.

Funnily enough, if you are in Sport mode when you turn off the engine, when you next start the car everything remains in Sport mode except the DSG box, which goes back to normal mode (D). Yet another software anomaly?

I think some people have been watching too much Knight Rider, based on some of the discussion. It's not a button that's going to boost you through the trailer of an 18 wheeler.

No its the hidden ramp and support team that do that, oh and the replacement car you get shortly after you land!
