Hi guys! this is my first post so no hate please This is my first car, a 2000 skoda felicia 1.3 mpi. It was bought by my grandparent from new then passed down to my dad when they bought a 2002 Renault Clio. My dad then gave it to me for my 17th birthday. When I received the car, it hadn't been started for 6 months and was in the car park of my dad's work. It somehow managed to start almost straight away and was loaded on to a trailer and taken to our barn for me to work on it. Mechanically, it's a decent car but unfortunately there is a lot of surface rust, scratches, the paint was faded and there was a leak on the windscreen seal.

As you can see the paint was very faded

There is rust on basically every body panel but the front wing is the worst where there is actual holes.

The engine bay was very dirty and so was the rest of the car

The first thing I did when I got the car was give it a wash and try to sort out the crap paintwork. I bought a bottle of t-cut and a couple of cloths and got to work. I was surprised how well the t-cut worked! It was the best I remembered ever seeing the car.

Another bad point of the car in the interior. It was very messy and the seats looked tatty and horrible, there was even a spring poking out of the back seat. After giving it a nice clean, I thought I would buy some seat covers (as chavvy as they are) as a quick fix until I can afford a more permanent solution.

So far that is all I have done but I will keep you updated until she is on the road

Nice work. Look out for felicias in breakers and you should be able to pick up spare parts cheap.

Actually I have a whole set of seats that you can have cheap if you want. I don't know where you are though for collection purposes?

I've heard that there is a felicia in a local breakers so I'm going to pop out next week and have a look to see if they have a front wing which will save me the trouble of grinding away the rust, welding, filling etc. I will not be able to affiord any seats yet but I will let you know nearer the time. I live in exeter, Devon.

The mileage is 102,000 miles but I do not have a service history although my dad is a mechanic so he fixed and replaced anything that went wrong.

It won't be long before you will get tuning this baby up to burn off all the paxo VTRs.

They are quite cheap to insure I found and I started off with a t plate l rally red from the mother in law £20 for the fuel it had in it only had 43k and then added all the bits from a 1.6 slxi air con spec body work was dented rusty hence conversion.. there great little nippy things off the lights and great cars none off the felicias have let me down just got another felicia that handles like a gokart..... and a rusty fun too love the felicia easy to fix too...

I passed my test in february and I'm getting quotes for around £1600 now. Hopefully by the time she's on the road, it will go down some more. It's not a lot compared to some first drivers insurance but it is still a lot really :( To be fair it is a nice looking car! It's never let my dad or grandparents down. The only "major" problems have been an issue with the timing belt and altenator problems. Is rust a common issue with them then?

Rust issues can be problematic. Rear arches and tailgate rust with annoying regularity as do the front struts which can be catastrophic.

Mechanically they're pretty bombproof generally speaking. The 1300s have timing chains which although rattly, don't give any issues either.

Hey guys! Sorry for the lack of posting recently, I've just finished college so everything has been a little hectic! It's now time to get some serious work done on her

For any golfers out there, here's a little mod I made with my window winders. Before, the handles were chewed up from when our dog was a puppy

Being a golfer myself, I thought it would be a cool little extra to cut off the ends, and replace it with a golf ball!

1 down, 3 to go!

As for the rust issue, I went out and bought this glass fibre bridging kit to patch up the holes. Not bad for £5.25!

And body filler for the rest, costing only £3.59.

Quite a cheap fix for quite a big problem. Need to get the grinder out and clear the area of surface rust and treat it with rust protector.

Have a look at adding your dad as a named driver, knocked £300 off my first policy but of course meant he would on occasion steal my car for a run to the shop (cheaper fuel than his).

 

Loved my felicia. Really regret getting rid of it. Treat her well and she will treat you well in return. I'm looking for another now
