Armrest marking handbrake

Featured Replies

Has anyone else found that with armrest fully extended & fully lowered, it comes in contact with handbrake when fully up (not swinging out of it). Its leaving an indent in handbrake.

Maybe a handbrake tightening might fix it.

Yep. It's done it since new on mine. crap design

I can't even get my hand on my handbrake with the armrest out, though I never put it out anyway.

I have a tendency to utilise the armrest when adjusting my seating position....rather than sliding on seat. As a result armrest tends to be fully extended (no issues for me accessing handbrake when like this.

Bit of a crap design alright.

Bad design on mine to, surely never tested???

As you go to pull up handbrake, slide armrest back with your elbow ... simples :)

Handbrake??

Oh yes, the go round corners faster lever. The armrest does get in the way.

Only under 50, over 50 it all gets a little bit ...Hmmm.... complex yeah thats the word for it.

I think the Octy armrest has the poorest of designs.

I have it in the highest postion and furthest forwards, but because it doesn't lock, it tends to slide back a lot of the time (especially when I have a passenger who is trying to share it).

hopefully at some point they will get a better design.

Noticed this today on my vRS and was gonna post! I've got two indents in handbrake sleeve now and it's doing my head in!

It's kind of the same on the Mk2, except it never actually touches the lever.....so Skoda haven't learned!

When fully forward, you have to reach around it to get to the handbrake. As mentioned I just slide it back when I want to pull the handbrake.

I'm surprised they fit a mechanical handbrake.

I can't believe you have to buy an Elegance to get an armrest tbh, why didn't they put an EPB in it this time.

No thanks ... much rather the traditional handbrake then electronic :p

How high are you pulling the hand brake?!? I can get a finger between the arm rest and hand brake when it's applied. That's with the AR at its lowest position as well.

Oh the joy of having a DSG...

Yes noticed that as well. Doesn't bother me though. I use the armrest fully extended when driving and pushed back when parking. In the lowest position as the seat is also at lowest. I tend not to pull the brake on to hard or high when on the flat so that it doesn't touch and use the 3secs hold brake feature when on a slope.

i still use my handbrake though. Think I'd rather put the gravity stress from a hill through my cheaper brakes than a dsg box

Lol, It took me a while to figure out where this mysterious dent was coming from.

If you look in the car manual page 77 it has a note that says:

Push the armrest cover all the way back to the stop before applying the handbrake.

So I guess they are aware of the issue as it is mentioned in the manual.

Has been like this on most VAG cars for ages...is a poo design.

Because it obstructs the handbrake so much I never use it, its only really v useful as a cubby/additional storage......also rather cheap that its no longer air conditioned as it was in the Mk2.

Doesn't seem to be but may be it's worse for a RHD. I just checked and using the handbrake on the first click doesn't touch the armrest when fully forward. But I have a LHD.

Must be a problem on RHD cars, pulling my handbrake as hard as I can and it's 2inch? (5cm) from armrest.(3clicks)
