fabia paint colour discrepency

Featured Replies

i wonder if any one can help i have a 60 plate elegance 1.6 tdi estate, and have a problem matching the colour aqua blue code 3u3u,i had the paint mixed at a proper auto paint suppliers in aerosols for bumper, however on spraying it is a much darker blue,as it was not on the car, i took it back to where i had brought paint from with together with car which has original paint on bumper though obviously damaged, thinking he had made an error, not so his paint colour match plates were exactly the colour i had painted on new bumper.his explanation was that skoda painted there cars with a water based paint that had a pearlesent white added, which cannot be added to solvent based paints, has anyone else had this sort of problem thanks tony52

Id try somewhere else i think..

Cant you get a tub of the genuine skoda stuff? Why does it have to be solvent based?

Maybe call in at a body repair shop and see what they say?

excuse my inexperience with this type of thing, but i cant see skoda painting a car a colour which could never be matched

you cannot put waterbased paints in an aerosol

Borrow a compressor with a spraying attachment?

They arent too expensive?

Whereabouts are you buddy?

I am in birmingham, thanks for link they do indeed do a waterbased aerosol ordered one to try thanks for the link.

The explanation from the paint supplier doesn't make sense. You gave him the correct code and he mixed it to match but when it's queried he says it's impossible to match solvent based.

I don't necessarily buy it that it can only be done in water base unless someone else confirms it.Water based paints are not the best to use at home in less than perfect conditions....as well as being more expensive.

The correct colour of undercoat is the important thing to me when spraying Metallic colour coat,

but i can still match/blend new solvent paint to old.

That is with a Spray Gun, and very well mixed paint.  i only use solvent paint though, never Water Based.

Not always possible to match with an Aerosol though IME.
