I'm going to go for a door locking mechanism

ding ding ding! we might have a winner!

the near side lock makes a groaning/grinding when you unlock it, i have a video of it somewhere....

it still locks/unlocks and opens/closes so will do for now!

Thought so they're normally knackered at that age. I spent about £600 replacing two iirc

Since doing the drive shafts, the cars still driving well, thinking of raising it up a bit on the front.

As its had alot of town driving the past few days i think the OEM drop links (and top mounts) are knocking/creaking a little on rough roads. So hopefully i can lift the front about 5-10mm or so and remedy this.

Part from that, all good! :)

Jacked the fabia up today to check some bits over underneath. Okay but I've noticed some bits to keep me busy!

When I fitted the garret pd130 turbo from the Octy I had to clock it.well it appears that I did not clock it far enough and the drive shaft has been rubbing on the boost pipe :( so it may need replacing. And turbo will need clocking further around.

Also before combe I went to change the console bushes. The bolt which holds the wishbone in place sheared off and I had to drill it out and retap it. It appeared to hold torque then but today I've found its loose and won't tighten. So that needs to be pulled out and a replacement aluminium mount n wishbone bush fitted :/

But apart from that I've raised the front a little (only a few mm) and fitted a new horn :)

Minor issues for the car that it is, IMO you've got a good little runner there and we all know you'd be bored if it was perfect ;)

It was till the boost pipe blew off today so I decided to pull out the turbo to clock it properly

Being easier said then done however

Turbo is out fine (just over an hour to get it out) but clocking it is being a pita

Wowzza what a day!

After I got the turbo off and clocked it. Got it back on the car racing against the sun light. I lost that battle so resorted to phone light... which then died. So I think I've now trained myself in refitting a turbo with my eyes shut haha.

Then the phone charged and I was able to continue blessed with sight

Got it all finished went for a drive bang! Pipe blew off again. Refitted it (this time with the clip in a different place) and it seems fine.

The pipe also completelyclears the drive shaft now so happy days!

Just need to find someone breaking a vrs to get the off side aluminium console mount for the along with two new bushes and it should be back to fighting fit!

Knowing how much work you do outside I can recommend a 3ft LED portable inspection lamp from Aldi, it was about £20 and has magnetic feet so can be set under bonnet and long battery life too.

Damn if only I knew about that before haha cheers jack ill keep and eye out for one

A console is a console, doesn't have to be a vRS.

An Ibiza? :giggle: I'm pretty sure I snapped that on my Fabia

If it was passenger side he could have the one I just pulled off the Fabia (assuming it all unbolts cleanly), but I want to keep the drivers side just incase the one from the Ibiza is bent (doesn't appear to be, but alignment time may throw something up).

Hmm I waant sure if they were the same or not :)

Go nab one off an FG MPI ;)

Yes, that FGF MPI classic is still at work.

I'm breaking a silver VRS from next week if you want anything else too.

Update!

So I went to see a certain fox about a silver VRS he is breaking today. Instead of faffing around with door locks I just swapped the entire passenger door.

Wiring is a bit temperamental atm the electric windows worked on the old car. Worked when I put it on my car but the moment I fitted the door card the electric window and wing mirror decided not to work. So a bit of fettling to keep me going

Also procured a set of 4 16" standard spiders with kumho tyres as although the Yoko AD08 tyres were awesome at brands. They are not so good on the roads in very wet conditions.

Last addition was two pristine front seats (although I accidently left a head rest behind )

I also pulled some bits off for BossFox and for other members.

Didn't get everything sorted today but with my tools 4 extra wheels and a rear passenger door (for Beryls chief pilot ) I didn't have much room left in the car and the rear suspension was notably lower lol

The quick way of lowering :D

As its been almost a month I decided to update the thread.

Flew through its MoT on the 19th, with another years Ticket on it, Also taxed it in early December too.

Still drives well, I am keeping it on a set of Kumho's on the Standard 16" vRS rim over the winter period, they arent winter tyres, but when you are using AD08 tyres you find on the road they dont have very good water dispersion which was not the best idea, so i did a deal with Bossfox and grabbed these 4 wheels before he broke the latest vRS.

Gearbox mount is starting to make some noise, either that or the dog bone mount, so i need to get in there and have a look.

Im also trying to find out which brand of remap i have, Ive Misplaced the paper work for the car (need the previous owners name) so Awesome GTI cant tell me any of the work they did to the car as the account is by name rather than cars reg.

Reason i want to know is im worried if the map wasnt done by Awesome GTI, is it a bad map with boost spikes which killed the last turbo. I just dont want a repeat of previous events. Best to know which maps its got, and how to get a Shark Map on it instead

anyway some pics :D
