All running well?

I removed the FMIC cleaned it up a bit, wasnt perfect but there was a large amount of oil in it.

Then I did a oil change with halfords own brand oil and a crosslands oil filter, disconnected the injector connector, started it, it caught just on the crap left in it then died which i didnt really want it to do but meh :/ , cranked it a few times to get oil to the replacement turbo, after a few cranks, connected the loom, started first time I then only ran it up to about 60 deg C before switching it off

then I drained the oil again, filled up with Mobil ESP 5W30 VW 507 spec oil, spun a new bosch oil filter on it, then started her up again. ran her up to tempreture, in the mean time i put the front bumper back on.

Took it out for a 2 mile test drive, boy she smoked a first but some steep hills around here allow me to have a gradual amount of boost with a fair amount of load, meaning all the leftover oil was soon leaving the tail pipe.

after a few hills and blasts the smoke disappeared and pulls like normal :D

chuffed to say the least!

Just need to change the nearside CV and then its time for the remap (and clean) on friday, all in prep for Brands Monday morning

Who's running the book on what goes next? My monies on the clutch!

Jeez that's rapid turnaround maybe I should leave my Fabia outside your house and it might be done in a week ;) I'm betting on the DMF next Dan

Thanks, i do try :) , i was supposed to stop two hours ago to revise for an exam tomorrow at college.....

but i thought the amount of time it takes to get my tools in and out, may as well finish it all off. So i just put the hammer down to finish up. (excuse the pun)

Id say ive been at a fair pace doing this, but removing the old turbo was the quickest ive ever done it, but fitting the replacement had all sorts of "little jobs" all add up!

I mean't after that :P Its already been declared, can't bet on it now!

Joking with a colleague today, he said he would love to buy a car off of me, i always tend to put loads into it getting it in good fighting shape, as I pretty much end up replacing everything :D

But i have never done a clutch/DMF so while im not wishing for it, it would be an interesting challenge.

Hmm want a Clio and I'll buy it back after.

Thing is i really enjoy the moment when i step back and ive taken a broken car and turned it into a mechanically sound car :D Althought not so on bodywork and suspension, so I just say TFFT!

If you've had a box/engine out its pretty simple. I think the hard part is getting the box out rather than actually replacing the clutch... that said I don't know if mine works yet :P

It's fairly simple, iirc for this platform but don't quote me you fit an engine support drop the gearbox mount and all of the passenger side hub assemblies and drop the gearbox lower, separate it all and change it then re assemble.

Ive never removed an engine/gearbox.

If you were closer i would be over to help straight away, i keep trying to persuade Delcac (Des) to buy another mad Mk1 Octy Project so i can work on it :P hes only about a mile or so away from me.

Simples, save Mr Fox labour charges on the FGF 1.8T and educate yourself at the same time whilst having fun.

Can't remember doing any of that... I did have to move the blocks of wood keeping the engine off the floor over a bit so the engine didn't fall over :P

Yeah no bugger who lives close to me wants to help. I'm sure people only offer if its impractical :P

Recruit that Dan lad with the Clio :P there's even less people out here to help with mine.

If only! ive tried driving to his depot to work on things before an when its an hours drive after work, an they shut at a given time, id have enough time to unbolt one thing then have to leave again.

If it were possible to get a local garage with power id be jumping at him to do it. Im moving soon so on my landlords driveway is a bit impractical and wont be possible once i move house.

Wow mate what a nightmare, I'm lucky I'm still at home for work space until next year at least then it won't be too far away.

Well i could use my mums garage as she never uses it now, but you try pulling a 250kg engine up or down a 17 degree driveway which starts immediately at the garage door!

not easy i tell you!

You can see in the picture of when I removed my Fab engine I did it on sloping gravel and there were 3 of us trying to move the engine and had to drag it with my car to get it to the garage.
